What makes me sad is the cases where the dad is clearly the better fit as a parent, but it is often extremely difficult in many places for a good dad to get full or even primary custody since many family courts still have the belief that children automatically belong with their mother just because she gave birth to them (and the traditional belief that the mom does all the childcare and that a dad taking care of his kids is “babysitting”, when it is actually the dad being a parent). It’s how certain moms get away with making claims of the dad abusing them and/or the kids in order to manipulate the court into giving them full custody. It often takes a miracle and/or an insane amount of evidence of a bad mom being abusive and an unfit parent in order for a good dad to get to have his kids in his life and keep them safe. I’m glad that in the one story that’s in here where the mom tried that, the lawyer shot her down, but unfortunately it often ends up going the other way.
That was like one of the stories in the video with the mom who claimed her FIL got "Chinese Drug Ninjas" to replace her clean drug test results with ones that showed she was on M*th. The OP said it took 3 more years to get primary custody. Makes me shake my head in disbelief that Mom is committing suicide the long way around and the courts still judge her coherent enough to offer primary care for the kids. Ludicrous.
I’m not a laywer; I am a lawyer. Had a client refuse to give her ex’s Christmas gifts to the children. I threatened to drop her 2 weeks before a big custody hearing if she didn’t give her children the toys. Her excuse- he didn’t give them good enough toys. He got both of the children (boy and girl under 5) motorized cars, the kind little kids ride in. Those were $500 a piece.

I’m about to go through family court with my ex over custody of my daughter. Definitely not looking forward to deal with his narcissism and gaslighting again.
If I can make a gentle suggestion, I suggest you and your ex attend therapy to help you cope with all of your feelings going through the divorce. A good therapist really does help you when you have to struggle dealing with your feelings and emotions and the emotional baggage of your ex.
@@thecluckingdead794 we were never married and I have my own personal therapist who has helped me to get through the break up and what he put me through. I am much happier and more confident than I was when I was with him
@@kaitlyngroody2684 Excellent! I’ve seen clients that have a therapist have a much easier time dealing with issues of custody and divorce. I just didn’t want it to come off as me being judgmental

Back in the 90's after I got custody of my daughter , every time I sent her to her mom's for the weekend in new clothes ( with other new clothes to keep at her mom's house ) she would be sent back with larger sisters worn out clothes on . (never seen the new clothes again ) That went on until her mother left out of town for a couple weeks . Never saw her again .She moved from South Mississippi to Pennsylvania . Since then , my daughter and family moved to Pennsylvania because for work . She's been here almost 3 years now and still haven't seen her . Maybe because I moved here also to be with my grandkids . Who knows . My daughter calls her biological mother her " womb donor " . Refuses to call her anything else when referencing her .

Gods, these stories make me happy that my boys' dad and I get along and have no issues with our agreement. We did it when our youngest was born and it hasn't changed in 13 yrs.

I'm sorry, these things are really terrible, but I laughed out loud at the couple fighting over the cat instead of their children. I have three adult daughters and a cat, I always tell my kids the cat is my favorite daughter.
I can sort of understand that, actually. I’ve heard of cases where someone fights to get custody of their ex’s beloved pet, then immediately has said pet put down, which isn’t exactly something they can easily get away with with the kids.

Not getting married. Not having kids, ever. I just don't trust people enough after seeing how common these stories are, and seeing messy divorces firsthand. Never gonna happen.
Same here. My parents spilt up not long after I was born. Bio dad was never in my life. Mum is an alcoholic. They got divorced around 2006 or so, but it was like an automatic thing. I think my mum filed a paper form and that was it. Then again, their entire relationship was a shitshow from the start. They were on and off for about ten years and I somehow came along. So yeah, I'm never having kids or getting married. It seems too many selfish horrible people do and cause so much pain to their kids. I know I wouldn't be a good mother so I'm not going to risk any intimate stuff.
Just for the record, always press charges if you have some evidence, like the cop said, don't feel sorry for them, they don't feel sorry for you either
"INTERROGATED" yeah that brought back memories. I think that other than the lasting effects of not having stability for years, the constant interrogation from each divorced parent was the worst part.
My dad's parents got divorced in the mid 80s. They were pretty calm about most of it, my dad's dad was both abusive and a very proud man, so I expect he wanted to get it over with ASAP and pretend it never happened afterward. Never fought over custody, and the kids were 16/17 and 17/18, so it barely mattered anyway.
They ended up fighting over a single lava lamp (which had immense sentimental value) and a photo album that contained photos of a specific camping trip, a trip my gran hated so much she wanted to burn all memory of it. The lava lamp was eventually won by my gran and she accidentally dropped it two days later. Divorce is weird
My parents are divorced and handled it well. I spend one week at mums and one at dads and they say hi when ever they see each other
that last one reminds me of a story where one parent PAID for ACTING LESSONS to coach her kid on what to say...
opponent's lawyer found out, and put the acting teacher on the stand.

Thank god I had responsible parents who kept my sister and I out of everything regarding their divorce and neither of my parents ever spoke badly of the other. These stories are heartbreaking.
Funny how when the father fails the drug test the mother is given custody immediately but when the woman fails it takes 3 extra years to get it
Please note, the meth mom who blamed "Chinese drug ninjas" for popping hot on a drug test - it took the judge/system ANOTHER 3 YEARS to resolve custody. Gee, can't imagine why some men feel the whole divorce and custody process is stacked against them. I would bet real money if it was the opposite, the woman would have had custody in a far, far, far shorter period of time.
It's just sick. How the fuck was she allowed to have them?!
I can guarantee, if the Father said 'my ex wife hired chinese drug ninjas to make it seem like I took meth' that it'd be on the news, he'd be laughed out, the case would be done within a month.
But no, this case, mom tests positive for meth, claims ex husband hired chinese drug ninjas to rig her test results, and that case went on for three more fucking years.
Over one thousand (1000) days, and not once did the judge wake up, thinking "hang on, maybe missus "chinese drug ninjas" on meth isn't suitable"

This is how my dad's friend met his wife. He was working as a paralegal in a law firm when she came in asking for help. Her son had been accepted at a make-a-wish type of charity but was having issues. Basically, the people at the foundation required parental consent from both parents if they weren't together. The dad was refusing to accept his son's wish to go tour London with his mom and sister because he was demanding his son change his wish so his wife and stepdaughters could go to a music festival. The firm couldn't help unless the father changed his mind.
It did have a happy end though. My dad's friend was talking to his family about a fundraiser to help the woman when his uncle offered to pay for the whole thing. He told the woman and she insisted he came along too and they started dating. They got married on the anniversary of their first day in London.
My birth-giver signed all rights over to my daddy and at 3 months dropped me off to his mother with my SS card, birth certificate, and the diaper on my ass. When asked about my belongings (bottles/diapers/clothes/toys/etc.) she said she was keeping them.
My daddy worked to support us so his mother raised me. He had no obligation to let the birth-giver see me, but he never wanted to deprive me of my family (her relatives) and allowed her to take me on weekends. She began to return me with diaper rash so severe that it bled and required a visit to the doctor. The only reason that stopped is that they would take me to the sheriff's office Friday evenings and take my diaper off to show the sheriff there was no rash before re-dressing me and letting her take me. Then the same thing but reversed, with her showing there was no rash when giving me back on Sunday evening. Imagine being such a sorry excuse for a mother that the only reason you change your child's diaper enough to avoid bleeding diaper rash is because you have to "show your homework" to the sheriff. 🙄🤦🏻♀️
Sad as it is, the cat one made me laugh. Given that we have no kids (at this time), semi-jokingly my husband and I have worked out custody of the cats. He gets the runt, I get the mama, and we share custody of the first cat and twin brothers.
This is why I chose a partner very very very very carefully and I thought long and hard about who I married, about the quality and heart of the man, about whether or not I could trust him for the long haul, and used my brain when choosing a partner instead of lust/sex appeal like apparently 50% of the population does based on the divorce rate. Plus I said that if I did it, I was not going to bail out when things got hard because they always do get hard at some point. If you go into it thinking “well I’ll just get a divorce” if sh-t goes south, you’ve already lost the entire point of marriage. So why even do it in the first place? No point. And divorce is basically financial ruin and starting from scratch all over again with nothing. My plan worked out. I chose someone trustworthy and true, and we’ve made it to our forties still faithfully married and loving each other. Still going strong, so choosing with my head over lust worked out well I think.
Good stuff. I wish more people would use their heads. Sex is nice and all, but there's a lot more to consider. Like can you deal with their bad habits and is their personality abrasive or not. Some people just work, despite those, but you need someone who compliments you. Someone who can pick up where you lack and can help you in times of stress.

The stories about kids having two separate wardrobes that they aren't allowed to mix gets me. My parents did the same thing when I was growing up, although not to the severity that's mentioned in this thread. My mom didn't care so much, cause they were my clothes and I could do as I pleased, but God forbid if my dad ever found out I brought clothes to his house from my mom's, or took clothes from his house to wear while I was with my mom. I always found it super weird, had no idea it was so common. Such a petty thing...
How is the mom gonna get caught red-handed doing meth, yet it still takes 3 years for the dad to get custody? The shit fathers go through in custody battles :(

10:18 my aunt's ex-husband did this with their two sons. Their mum cottoned on when they had to get changed in an airport bathroom, and the eldest son had a screaming meltdown in the car ride home because he forgot to change his socks over.

I don't believe the one about the 40000 in ones is true. No bank would have 40000 in ones and even if they did, they wouldn't give it to a customer. Anything over 10000 has to be reported to the feds under the bank secrecy act and giving out singles would definitely be frowned upon. Banks are only allowed to keep a certain amount of cash on hand and they certainly wouldn't keep 40000 in singles.
It depends on when the check had to be given. If it's weekly, that woman has 5 business days to go to any of her bank locations. Then, she can just ask for the maximum amount of 1s that she can have. You only need 8k of 1s a day to not be reported. Its doable - it's just petty and time consuming.
After years of physical abuse and cheating I made the mistake of getting my ex pregnant. She cheated 6months pregnant and that was the last straw I left but was still in my kids life. Daughter was 9 months old and ex already had 4 bfs but i started dating 1 woman. She showed up at my apartment when gf and her friend was there accusing me of hitting her said shell call the cops if I dont talk to her. I refused. Claimed I beat her and had a 3 day old burn from a curling iron on her arm so I was arrested mind you she does hair for a living. Lost a good job, my apartment and 2 years in prison over jealousy and not once did anyone care to hear my side of events. Women can ruin men over nothing.

Ah man. I can’t imagine my parents going thru the courts for real. My dad would have shot my mom. Zero doubt about it. He’s a master mechanic and welder and she was a stay at home mom until we were old enough to be at home alone and got a lunch lady job. He would have had to pay out the ass for alimony and child support if they ever got divorced and my dad is absolutely narcissistic enough to think taking my moms life would have been worth it.
I don't know all the details of what happened as this happened to my father and he doesn't tell me much neither does my second step mom but when my dad was divorcing my first step mom she kept running her mouth about stuff and my dad just kept quiet letting her run her mouth and that ended up costing her half of my dad's retirement I don't know how much my dad's retirement is worth but I know he works for a county highway department and I'm assuming it's a pretty good one and because my half sister would also be sent to his house in filthy clothes he just went ahead and went out and bought her clothes to where while she was with them but my stepmom number one poisoned her against him so she only came around for no more than that first year

even the worst parents get some custody. my sister had a lousy boyfriend in high school (is, was and forever will be a loser). but they had my niece. they did try to make it work for my niece's sake but he was a loser. he got her on the weekends, some holidays and sometimes longer with permission. but he continued to be a deadbeat loser....eventually my sister fought for full custody....which mightve been tough it it hadnt for him being more of a deadbeat loser this time with a serious felony (wont say what thankfully wasnt towards my niece but it was enough for him to have jail time). court gave my sister full custody with him getting some visitation.
fast forward, niece is an adult (and married herself to a good guy where they seem happy....I dont see them often but facebook shows they are). she wants nothing to do with her dad

The narrator is the stepmom, married to "Dad" -- okay, a little confusingly worded but I think I'm following so far. "...when Dad found out who her kindergarten teacher was." I assume "her" refers to the child, not the mother. Who was the kindergarten teacher? Was it the stepmom? Or is the point that the mother didn't want the father to know anything about their child's education?
It's that mom didn't want dad/stepmom to know anything about the child's education. I think that if stepmom was the kid's teacher, that would have raised a whole other layer of hell.
