My high school had a zero tolerance policy for fighting. As soon as you were hit you got a 2 day suspension along with the person who started the fight. Whenever students would ask "what do we do if somebody starts a fight with us?" The answer was to not fight.
This lead to no holds barred fights whenever they happened because the penalty was the same for everyone involved. Zero tolerance doesn't work. It just makes everything worse because their is no reason to show restraint due to the fact that you already know your done for.

my middle school i used to go to had a rule like that... one student got mad at another in the boys bathroom... the student he was mad at was so nice that he wouldn't fight back even though the mad student almost killed him after bashing the really nice student's head into a brick wall repeatedly... this really nice kid ended up blacking out when the principle walked in to help him... the mad student had a worse punishment than what was normally given for almost killing the really nice student... the really nice student was taken to a hospital in a ambulance and survived with only really bad concussion... the thing that makes me annoyed is that a huge group of students were watching and doing nothing to help the really nice kid... I was in class when all of this happened... the really nice kid never got a punishment for getting into a fight at all because he didn't start it or do anything to fight back... the really nice kid forgave the mad student and they are still friends even after 2 years... the mad student felt so bad that he got him a really nice present after doing that...

The girl code about getting someone out of an uncomfortable situation is always the most important. I don’t drink and my roommates invited me to a huge party within the dorms, I was happy to go even though I wasn’t drunk, I was happy to keep an eye after them while they were getting drunk, for some reason the party got super raunchy and everyone was like doing lap dances and uh, going back to their rooms, one guy who I thought was okay but didn’t know much about grabbed my arm and tried to pull me into him to give him a lap dance, immediately every single girl yelled at him and pulled my arm back.
Turns out he was arrested a year before for physically assaulting a woman. After that the party died out, my friends and I went to a guys dorm room who was super chill and another “non drinker” he served us all ramen and let the drunk people in the friend group sober up before heading back to our rooms.
It’s really not hard being a decent person

I was looking after my nephew once. I had to take him to school from time to time and once, for reasons that were my fault he was late. I went into the office to explain that my nephew was late because of me, but they still gave him detention for being late.
This was completely unfair but nothing I could say would convince them to not punish my nephew for something that was my fault. They explained they had a zero tolerance policy on tardiness. No matter the reason, any student who was late had to serve lunch time detention. So I asked what time his detention would be and at the appropriate time I came back to the office and said I was there to serve my nephews detention.
I reasoned that if someone had to serve detention, then it should be the person who was at fault for the tardiness. The principle had already gone to lunch and the office lady, who hated the zero tolerance policy, agreed to let let me serve my nephews detention. I even wrote the lines he would have been assigned to write, modified from, "I will not be late to school." to "I will not make my nephew late to school."
When the principle returned and asked why some random adult was in the office writing line the secretary explained I was (my nephew's) uncle and I was serving lunch time detention because I had made my nephew late to school that morning.
After this they changed the zero tolerance policy.
"Zero tolerance" is just a way to avoid making decisions for when a rule should not apply. It's just laziness. I'd like to think I prevented other children from being punished unjustly.
I'm just glad I didn't have to work that way. But I was so angry about the situation, I might have called in sick and still done it. I absolutely didn't want my nephew to be punished for something that was my fault.

The one about the strict parents:
    "You should socialize more"
    "Then may I go out?"
    "No."...
So, this is an ex-boyfriend and it's called narcissism. Once I learned about narcissism, and I had an incorrect presumption if what it really is, my whole world made sense and the healing began. Once I accepted that my mom is and that's why I gravitate towards it, it broke my heart, but in a way like when a bone breaks and isn't set properly. It will heal, but not correctly and will cause a host of other issues and must be re-broken in order to heal the right way.

In 1969, my family was transferred to Rhode Island from South Texas. That was my 1st experience with COLD weather. I wore long pants instead of a skirt to church, which almost caused a scandal, but as a 17 year old, I didn't care. As I walked around in church, I heard critical whispers. But on the following Sunday, several ladies wore pantsuits to church, including the preacher's wife. I was proud of breaking that rule.

I had a teacher in college like the assigned seats one, but she took it a step further: most of her classes were her lecturing shopping with a powerpoint, and she'd also give us printed out notes that went along with the powerpoint. Nice, right? Nope: she'd leave blanks all through the notes so we'd "have to pay attention" and fill them in. I was so annoyed by being treated like a little kid when in college that I literally slept through her class every day because I sat on the far left side and would put my head on my right hand blocking my face from her like I was looking down following along in my notes, then just get the notes from someone else later. It made the nap even sweeter that it was for justice.

    • @bcase5328

Assigned seating and attendance at college is silly. You are paying them for the education. They are to present it, hopefully in a well ordered fashion. You learn it or you don't. Hopefully you will retain what you need for your future. If not, you will need to reteach yourself.

When I was in school, there was a rule that if someone was hitting you/attacking you, you couldn’t defend yourself, you’d be considered just as guilty as your attacker. I (a girl, then 14 years old) had a male senior beating the shit out of me on the bus. When he hit me in the face with a shoe and swung around to try and do it again, I kicked him squarely in the face. Went to the principal the next day, he tried to suspend me too. My mom was livid and went to the school, saved my ass

The first story makes me happy that I no longer work in retail and have the job I do now. I work in the laundry room of a nursing home, and sometimes I don't have any laundry to do, so I can do pretty much what I want until I get some. I'm allowed to have something playing on my phone or laptop while I work, and I'm also allowed to sit down when I work. A lot of my time on weekends is spent drawing, watching Netflix, or writing because weekends are our slowest days in the laundry room. I'm also pretty much left alone back here, which is great since I have ADHD and get distracted easily. I'm currently watching this while folding kitchen linens and waiting for my shift to end. When I worked at Walmart, we were punished and separated for making our work fun as well as getting the job finished quicker because our morale was high. We had a specific coach that hated everybody and got pissed whenever she saw associates having fun. One of my managers was decent and would joke around with us and let us have fun as long as we were still doing our work. One time we were quoting vines and the one came up where we were like "What's that pokemon?" "It's Pikachu!" "It's Clefairy!" and then that one manager came around the corner with a big grin and whisper shouted "FUCK", making us all crack up for a minute. That was our running joke, and I'm still friends with a lot of the people that work there. I just have a much better job, even if the pay isn't as good. I actually quit because of that specific coach I mentioned, because she was trying to get me fired specifically because she doesn't like me or my mother (My mom is a team lead over the cashiers and maintenance), and she decided she could only deal with one of us and couldn't get my mom fired since they were on similar levels. She waited until I was over my points to tell me that I could have applied for intermittent leave because I have chronic migraines that leave me unable to get out of bed some days, but I've only had maybe two migraines at work since I started my new job because they're triggered by stress, and my new job isn't near as stressful as my previous one. I actually like where I work now because of the leniency and ability to work at my own pace, and I basically manage myself because my job is that simple. Pretty much the worst thing that happens at my job is when one of my washers or dryers breaks down and I only have one of each machine functioning, but that hasn't happened in a while

My college had a blanket ban on water guns of any kind. My friend asked somebody in the administrative building what the story was behind this and was told that it was campus police’s responsibility. So he went to Campo and was told they didn’t know where it came from and was something put in place by the administration faculty years ago....I’m so interested in learning the truth.

with the music in car thing: play music that most people in the car (especially the driver) would like along with you, (if offered the aux) NOT songs that only YOU would like, you just ruin the car ride for everybody

    • @amandamalchuk5192

Yeah. My friends all listen to pop, rap, and classical rock. I'm a metal head. So is my brother, and they know this. For that reason they never let me touch the aux for fear of me blasting black or death metal. They never give me the chance for the sole reason of I like metal. Like, yeah. I like metal. I like a lot of music though. Everything from instrumental to the aforementioned genres, so I'm fine with pop and rap. They will blast all of their favorite songs all day long but when I request one they always ask if it's metal and if it's heavy. Even when it's not a metal song, they rarely play it based on the assumption it's gonna be heavy. It makes me really frustrated and angry with people like this. I listen to a wide variety of bands and genres, but they judge me for the one I like the most. Ironic since they only listen to two or three and are horrible when it comes to listening to anything but those. I don't care if you don't like metal, I get that it's not for everyone. But don't turn around and judge me for it when it's something I really enjoy. I don't judge you based on the music you listen to, so why can't I have the same level of respect?

My high school is/was (I graduated) a shop school. We had some pretty “crazy” rules by regular public school standards, by which I mean they listed certain shop rules in the rule book. (one example was it was listed in the rule book that sitting was not allowed. It was entered allowed and heavily recommended in academic classes, but we were not allowed to sit in shop class without special permission because of the unprofessional appearance and the heavy machinery) my favorite rule of all time though has to be, and I quote, “Water is not permitted with the exception of those with a Water Pass” a Water Pass is a little card in the the shape of an index card that simply stated the student in possession of the card would be allowed to drink water from their own personal water bottle (instead of going to the bubbler) due to health reasons and/or due to doctor’s orders. I obtained one of these passes by midway of freshman year because I have health problems and disabilities. The teachers were *VERY* lenient with this rule because they believed it was stupid… until a couple kids in my class brought in a pitcher of lemonade laced with THC and they proceeded to pour travel cups of this funky never to their friends who didn’t really know about the THC. After that we had to have a pass because otherwise we would get either detention or written up based on how many times you were told to put the water away.

A rule made because of me: I used to wear a cape in middle school, teachers tried to tell me to take it off, so the next day I came in with a copy of the dresscode, indicating that there’s no such rule. Wore it until HS. Eventually after I left they added the rule, lol

My parents never really made any ridiculous rules while they were still married (divorced when I was 11), mostly because my mom is normal but my narcissistic control freak dad was usually at work or with his mistress. But when I was 9 until my parents separated and then divorced when I was 11 I wasn't allowed to sleep over at a friend's house unless it was agreed upon at least 6 days prior. We were an expat family in Beijing, living in a guarded compound and my friend lived literally 3 houses down and one street over, a less than 2 minute walk away. I have no idea why. My older sisters could sleep over even if it was decided that night and my mom didn't mind but my dad did.
Also after the divorce I stayed at my dad's every other weekend and was not allowed to sleep over at a friend's house ever on a dad weekend. According to him sleepovers had to be during mom weekends because she got me during the weeks as well and he wanted to spend time with me. Thing was, my mom and I never spent time together during weekdays, I was busy with homework and she was busy with work. I also couldn't hang out with a friend during the day on Saturday or Sunday on dad weekends, this was for the same reason. I was only allowed to hang out on Fridays and I wasn't allowed to do so if I went to my dad's to drop off stuff before doing so. Aka if once I got to my dad's on Fridays I couldn't go back out anymore. What was even dumber was that my mom and I lived outside of the city I went to school in and my friends lived in, and going to see friends from my mom's meant an hour bus ride per way, my dad lived 15mins away from the center of the city.

When I was in 4th grade (this would have been around 1979) they made a rule just for me. "No student shall turn their foot backwards or remove their leg during recess (I am an amputee if that isn't already obvious). They made this rule because of activities I engaged in while playing at recess. A teacher took me to the office, but they could not punish me (that time) because what I had done was not against the rules. So they made these rules.
Fast forward many years. I'm dating a school teacher who was promoted to become assistant principle at that same school. She was assigned to look at the school rules and make updates to them.(Apparently this had not been done in quite some time).
She laughed and pointed to the rules that were still on the books just as I quoted them. I'd like to think that after I left the school a great many teachers were confused by this rule.

OOOOK, real quick, just want to point out that the school at 45:13 is actively breaking the law. There are legitimately laws that state that people HAVE to have access to a bathroom if it is needed, from pre-k to working a 9-5, if you are prohibited from going to the bathroom for an "emergency", they are committing a criminal act. And more importantly, under no circumstances are schools allowed to do anything like that to phones, or anything else they confiscate from students. Unless the object in question is illegal, the school has to turn any confiscated object to the parent upon request, in the condition is was taken. If a school even so much as changes the settings on a confiscated device, it would get into serious trouble.
Bathroom thing: nospank.net/couture3.htm (near the bottom, a technicality, but looser has held up in court.)
About the phone thing: I was unable to find something that directly stated it, but this : blogs.findlaw.com/law_and_life/2018/08/do-parents-own-their-childrens-property.html pretty much states that a childs phone could be considerd the parent's property, and there are definitely laws that prohibit destruction of property.

Went to a Halo tournament at a store in college for a midnight release of Halo 3. The organizers wouldn't let me change my control scheme even though I never played default (so I would have no idea what I was doing and be terrible) and my opponent was telling them to let me change them, because they said they wanted everyone to be on a level playing field by using the same controls. It's been more than a decade and I still get mad thinking of just how completely stupid their entire "reasoning" was and how they just stuck to their guns even though every single player was telling them that was idiotic. Of course, I lost horribly. Couldn't even invert the y axis.

At 28:52 i usually follow 13 but for people who are learning how to draw, sew, or anything else i might be able to teach them...
Also at 44:36 my waist is a weird size and i can wear certain sizes in certain brands but in most brands the shorts have to have a adjustable waist which causes me to have a elastic band in the waist of 99% of shorts or pants. That rule would have caused me to have pants that are too small (probably hurting due to the small size) or nearly able to fall down to my ankles. A belt won't help if it's a size too big as it would cause me to be very uncomfortable and having scoliosis it would probably make it be more uncomfortable than anyone who has a normal spine. I'm just glad that rule isn't or hasn't been a rule at my school, any school i've been to or heard about from someone i knew/know...
1:31:13 so no My Little Pony Friendship is Magic because of it having a whole episode based on Valentine's day and in the show that day would be called hearts and hooves day... or because of twilight developing a crush, spike having a crush, twilight's brother getting married and having a foal(baby), and all while it is all about Friendship... it shows you can get over your fears and face all kinds of challenges even if it seemed impossible... it taught so many lessons and i would watch it all the time.... I still watch it... it is my favorite cartoon... i even have a huge My Little Pony collection while most of the stuff is like rated ages 3+ or 8+ and are completely harmless... it sucks if you are not allowed to watch it unless you don't like it... i would have watched episodes of it on youtube or pirate them off some website if i wasn't allowed to watch it and actaully had to do it so i could watch the 9th season as Netflix didn't have it and probably won't ever have it...

7:50 This rule is illegal. No school can make a rule that you are not allowed to protect yourself. If you sued the school, they would have to repeal the rule.
In society you are allowed to kill someone who is a threat to your safety. If you are at this school and someone attacks you, you need to kill them, but you can get into trouble at this school for using less than lethal force to stop an attack.
What happens if a student attacks a teacher? Will the teacher be fired if he defends him or herself?

    • @erictaylor5462
      @erictaylor5462 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@Alan Smithee So if a kid is attacked in school he should not be allowed to protect himself at all?
If I point a gun at you, you are not allowed to shoot me before I shoot you?
Also, If I walked up and stated punching you, you would be fully withing your rights to stab me to stop me attacking you. This is quite clearly set out in law. It is called "self deference."
Now, If I punched you once because you are an annoying little prick, then started walking away you would *NOT* be allowed to stab me because the attack would be over.
I am talking about self deference. The rule is illegal because it prevents children from defending themselves. Not only is the rule illegal, it is immoral as well.

Apparently my mom caused the rule to not post computer code on Facebook. It was while she had gone back to college to get a degree. She was in a programming class and posted it to one of the school's group pages because it was a joke you would only get if you knew coding. Apparently the site freaked out about it and crashed for about 3-4 hours. Not sure if it was the entire site or just a portion but once it was back up she got a message from Facebook IT to not do it again (apparently they got the joke and knew the post wasn't malicious). Shortly after that there was a notification saying that posting code was not allowed and could be terms to have your account shut down temporarily or worse. It was hilarious though.

In my middle school we weren't allowed to be on our phones unless we were sitting on specific "electric benches" which were basically just cement benches placed randomly around the school. You would get your phone confiscated if you were on it anywhere else - your lunch table, the lunch line, etc.
Also in my school we had a gallery outside of our library. In 8th grade we got a new librarian and new rules were implemented in the school. When it was cold out we would go into the library before classes started. We weren't allowed to be on our phones in the library. It didn't matter if it was before or after school. So we would go out to the gallery but the school made a new rule where we weren't allowed to loiter in the gallery even though it has fricking chairs.

If you borrow someones car, return it with a full fuel tank, even if you got it with an empty fuel tank.
If you borrow someone's property and you damage it, even slightly, repair it or replace it.
If someone gives you food in a dish, return the dish with food you have made.
If you ask someone for a favor, and they agree, never say no when they ask for a favor later, even if it's more than they did for you.
Never borrow money from a friend. If a friend asks for a loan, do not loan them the money. You can give them as much money as you can afford to give away, that way, if they don't pay you back, it won't damage the friendship.
If a friend gives you money, always pay that money back, even if it is a gift.
Never sleep with your friend's SO unless you are invited by *BOTH* of them.
If a friend gives you something valuable (like a car) that you later sell, give that friend the money you sold it for. ALL the money.

If you need food or water when your job is to stand/sit guard to watch people for hours on end... I suggest for you to learn how to fast during the day, like how some religions teach their people. Not only fasting though, but also meditation or breathing technique, just to calm yourself as you stay vigilant through your job routine. You don't have to jump straight into fasting from dawn to dusk, but learn how to extend the hours gradually, & have with you high-calorie snacks & water when you're allowed to take a break in private. Good luck with your fasting practice :)

I am a teacher and I am ashamed at these administrators and their abusive rules. I mean, I totally support rules and regs within reason but stuff that leads to harm, like the shaving, or ones that shame kids are absolutely absurd.
I take no ish from my students but they also know I always have their back when they do what they supposed to. Heck, even when they don’t depending on situations.
My kids hs had a no fight back rule. I taught them never ever touch first. Always protect yourself even if it means fighting back. They never got in trouble so if they had ever fought it’s because they had to. Luckily the graduated never having to. But I’ll be damned if I was going to tell them to stand there. The kids who always fight are the reason why the rules are so strict now. Teachers get hurt. Students get hurt. Even custodial staff. Not worth it. I teach my students if they are confronted and can haul a$$, then do it and come to my class. The ones chasing the kid won’t be getting passed me and my two coworkers.
Also WTAF with the school shooter drill? Like htf did parents and faculty put up with that?

My dad was pretty strict really.. Once we get in trouble or grounded we werent allowed to see friends and go hang out with people, even when we get low grades, our grades needs to be a c or better. But you have to ask permission to go places and you have to ask in a day in advance. Tell him what you are going to do, our curfew was at 9 or 10 (for the older one, which was me though it barely was there when i was 20 and had a boyfriend, now my husband), but you have to be home early or else if you were on the time or later, your late and we get into trouble. It can result into us not being able to go out. I even had to ask to drive places with my car they got me unless i have to do stuff (like drop the kids off to places they need to be, pick them up, groceries, go to school, etc.) and i have to be in bed by 10 (just barely because i was in collage.). I also was only allowed to use my phone at 2pm and can only use it for 5 hours (lucky!) but it needed to be out or given to my parents so they can keep it in their room and lock the door. Electronics down at 7pm no matter what. I wasnt allowed to sleep in my sisters room, i had to stay in my room. If we didnt do our chores we werent allowed to use our phones or electronics. I one time got grounded for 3 days to a week at 19 because i didnt clean the microwave before using my phone. if youre playing games then thats just an 1 hour and 30 minutes no more unless they allow it (which is special times)... well, there is more but it would turn longer so i'll leave it at that

Guy code: If you are walking behind a woman, NEVER EVER put your hoodie up and put your hands in your pocket at the same time. Only do either the hands or the hoodie. Never both. Even if it’s -10 degrees out. You don’t want to make them feel uncomfortable
