Most people are deficient in Vitamin D, especially in the winter months. Since I started taking 50 mcg or 2000 IU daily, I've had no colds or sickness at all.

It is so hard with a dog not feeling well. My Roxy dog throw up one night, a couple times, I dont know what she ate that didn't agree with her? i slept on the couch by her, took her took her out, she had a little loose stool. I had to wash extra towels, blankets. I was giving her pumpkin, cooking food for her and rice. It was a long week but she got regulated. When she is happy I'm happy

Yeah, Nicole, I just discovered you today and went thru about 10 of your vids (retired life is great!) and you are one very unusual young person - mindful, honest, rambling to entertain but on topic when necessary. Your content is varied and you somehow make the mundane interesting. I was in pain listening to you relate your house buying and selling follies which you not only seem to have survived, but you may be turning into an affordable life lesson .Then LoL'd the waxed unibrow sidebar in this vid because I saw the vid thumbnail of you in the bathtub with your hair up, which took me a moment to to realize it was indeed you.
From what I've gathered from surveying your vids, your total housing costs are some crazy percentage of your income, maybe above 50%. While 30% is a more usual housing percentage max, there's no hard and fast rule that says you can't prioritize your spending to make higher housing costs work. Just have sufficient emergency funds put aside ESPECIALLY since you're self-employed. I've been hearing about the mortgage crisis currently underway in Canada and I'm thinking your mortgage renewal may hit next spring as rates are sliding down from the peak - after things are so tanked the banksters are hoping low rates will resuscitate the economy enough to get money flowing into their coffers fast again. Best of luck from Buffalo...

I think you’re doing great. I have a cat and last month I had a vet bill of $700 and her poop 💩 test was $89. I thought that was crazy. It was hard spending that money but worth it. For vitamins I take vitamin C and Vitamin D. I started taking 10,000mg of vitamin D3 and that really helps my SAD disorder. I take it every day.

Vitamin D is probably more important than C (not that you have to choose). As a vegan Canadian you are almost certainly deficient in D, which means that not only are you gonna get sick every fall/winter, but SAD is gonna kick your ass. Also, my workout tip (been hitting the gym for 45 years) is to not let the perfect be the enemy of the good. An easy, semi-lazy workout every other day or so consistently done from now on is way better than a kick-ass workout that burns you out and you quit in a month. Establish a baseline and then make it your goal to SLOWLY improve on it. And don't worry about an app - just time yourself and put on some music. Sorry about your dog, but I understand. I don't take risks with my dog, either.

I think getting the Peloton is a good longterm purchase. You've obviously thought about it quite a lot, and it seems to add value to your life. I also have a spin bike, which costs close to $900 new, and I found that it was very helpful to keep up my fitness during the long months of winter in Canada. It's much better to work out at home than spend time and money going to a gym.

Consider adding Vit K2 along with the D3. It's good for bone health. Also, takes Zinc with quercetin to interfere with virus replication.
Resistance bands for weight training are cheaper than weights. Again weight training is good for bone health.
Frugality doesn't mean deprivation, It's just prioritizing some expenses and cutting others.
Concerning your dog: Have you tried fasting him for twenty four hours, Followed by a bland diet of boiled hamburger with the fat poured off mixed with rice? It's worked for my dogs. It seems to reset the digestive system. Ask your vet about it.
I have really enjoyed your videos, Especially the ones concerning normalized scams.

I wanted to comment about your dog tummy problems. Last year I tried to fix my dogs tummy troubles by altering her diet for several days before calling the vet. It happened to be close to time for her annual visit. I asked him to check her even though he wasn’t concerned, bc she does not have access to outdoors except for short walks for potty time. It turns out, she had contracted a parasite from sniffing ground that as parasite from another sick animal, during our walks, and she had to be put on a special medicine. It took 4 weeks to completely clear up. I live in Texas, so it cost about $42 for test and medicine. But, all that to say, it’s better to play it safe.

Last December, a friend of mine killed herself. It rattled me and made me realize how much I love to exercise. I bought the lululemon studio Mirror. I loved it and took 2 classes daily until a few months ago. Now I usually just do it on my phone at work (a quick yoga or Pilates class after lunch). I regret buying the mirror, even though I got it for $800 American, which is less than the usual price. I also feel like every class is the same. I am going to cancel my $40/month membership in December (you sign a year contract). So I’m stuck with a mirror. I can stream TH-cam yoga or Pilates classes free on my iPad I guess. The mirror is no better than the peloton scam!

New couch hack. We bought a new couch last year. It was not super high quality but it still cost enough. Pet peeve for me is when the cushions slide out so I went to Michaels and bought a big pack of heavy duty Velcro (with the 30% off coupon that always is available on their app). My son and I applied it to each of the cushions in an opposite pattern. So horizontal on the couch (2 strips) and vertical on the bottom of the cushion (3 strips). I did have to go back the next day for a second package of Velcro (big sectional) but that meant I could use the app coupon again. It works like a charm!

I'm a southern US 67 YO, (Boomer / Neanderthal ), white conservative male, frugal and stoic and I enjoy your videos. Kinda refreshing to see younger folks with your views and life managing skills. There are a few things we wouldn't relate on. My type of stoicism doesn't meld with existentialism and the variants, which I find too heavy with suffering and meaninglessness. Also, "tee off" too much on religions along with some ego feeding and superiority. That's not relevant, but I threw it out there for flavor. I hope you didn't spit up. You make really good videos. I find it interesting to hear how other people live, when the information is presented in a straightforward way, by somebody who speaks well (as you do) and who doesn't spend a lot of time doing visually distracting arm-waving and hand flapping. Altogether enjoyable. Thank you!

Hey, these months happen. I suddenly changed my car about 5 years ago when a suitable vehicle came along second hand at a really good price. I had been looking out for a replacement as my old one was getting unreliable, so it needed to be replaced. So long as you have the funds saved up it isn't a problem.
In the UK we have short fixed term mortgages as well, I found that when it got to the stage of refixing after the fixed term the cost of getting it rearranged made it more cost effective to stick with the standard variable rate and pay off as fast as possible.

The most common mortgage in the US is 30 year fixed. There are also 15 year fixed. In some cases you can get a 3/1 or 5/1 Adjustable Rate Mortgage where the interest rate is set for the first X number of years and then resets every year after that. I think the max is like it can go up 2% per year but don't quote me. Usually, those mortgages are about .5% cheaper than a 30 year.

I’d been waiting and waiting to buy a new one. I also bought a dining room table and chairs, also on sale. The old one is falling apart, it has a glass top, and the bottom part is getting so bad that the top is in danger of falling is someone’s lap. Total was about $800. Not to bad. Problem is what to do with the ones. I don’t know anyone with a truck to haul them off, so I’m going to have to hire someone. I hope I don’t regret this purchase. The old dining set is over 20 yrs old, and the old couch is over 10 yrs old. Just saying that to justify this to myself

    I really liked this video!
Sometimes being frugal means cutting down on things that don't matter to be able to have the financial health to invest in the things that do matter to you, your priorities. 😊
Of course, I live in Argentina, so our monthly expenses here don't look like that at all. For example, you can get a good place to rent for 200/300 USD. The thing is we're currently having a huge economic crisis so our coin depreciates more and more and so the dollar value will become cheaper as a result.
Great content! Please keep it up! ❤
Wish you the very best to you and Levi!

I agree that vegan foods made at restaurants are widely over priced. I can eat a week off of the same amount from food at the grocery store. For SOD, I double dose vitamen d, and I try to add a weekly swim on top of daily walking/hiking - with something different on the weekends.

On that Peleton, and boredom while riding. I have a 300$ airlbike with arm and leg resistance. I put on some TH-cam music videos via my laptop and earbuds. During the pandemic, I clocked 1200 miles. I am 72 now, still use the airbike. Exercise is definitely worth it, but you don't need expensive equipment or gyms.

In regards to ur mortgage. When My husband and I got our first mortgage the interest rates were high so we opted for a one yr term at a variable rate so if the rates went down in that term we would save and if they rose we were notified and locked it in at usually a five year. I hope this helps. Btw, I’m enjoying ur videos and I hope Levi feels better soon. 🐾

That really sux you have to renegotiate the interest rate on your home. That actually pisses me off and I don't even live over there. It's like they want people to be unable to pay off their house early. Hopefully the interest rate at least stays the same for you next year. And I hope Levi's tummy is feeling better. You mentioned $80 for sushi and that reminded me of when my brother in law and his wife came to visit a few months ago. My husband had been wanting to try a Korean BBQ place so we went to one. It was $200 for a plate that feeds 4. When I saw the price I of course ordered just water to drink. The food came out and it was a large plate with various meats that you cook yourself at the table and a scoop of rice for each of us. (Why in the world is it more expensive for the experience of cooking your own food at a restaurant?) The meat was fatty and looked unappealing so I just ate my rice. Since our half was $100 I had technically spent $50 on a scoop of rice and a glass of water.

One thing I'd be interested in hearing your perspective on in a future video (since you touched on home ownership and mortgage rates here) would be your take on renting vs. buying. I doubt there's a definitive answer since everyone's situation is different, but I'd like to hear what you think since you obviously decided to prioritize buying a house at a young age.

Canada’s mortgages sound similar to America’s “balloon rate” mortgages. However it’s more common to have a 30 year fixed rate.
Last year I blew my budget on two new couches for the same reason. My couch was 13 years old and it was so uncomfortable that it was costing me money because it caused me back issues and I had to frequent a chiropractor. I bought a tight back couch this time around, not as fashionable but so much more supportive. My dog can no longer sit on the back and contribute to its wear.

The mortgage market in the UK is the same, my five year fix finishes in January and I go from a lovely 2.14% to over 5%, so painful.

Don’t know if it works the same in Canada as UK but usually within the fixed rate of a mortgage there is an overpayment allowance which means you can overpay a percentage of the mortgage each year without penalty. In my experience the banks don’t exactly advertise this but it makes a difference if you can afford to pay extra. Also whenever you have a pay rise increase your mortgage payment by the same percentage or put that amount away in a savings account. It might not seem like much but it all adds up to help pay off your house earlier.

Here in Australia, you get a mortgage for however long the banks will give you the loan for and the interest rate is whatever they decide at the time. So, shopping around for the lowest rate is the smart thing to do There are variable interest rate mortgages and fixed rate ones. With the variable interest rate, you pay what is current at the time. So, if the rates are low, you're golden but if the rates rise and rise a lot, your repayment can be insanely high. As the for the fixed rate, the bank will offer you a rate and you lock it in for however many years they offer it. The downside with that is that if the market rate drops substantially, you miss out on the savings because your interest rate can't be changed. But if the market increases, that's when you're better off. I don't own a house (I wish) and at 57 years old, no bank will touch me, unless I have a huge deposit. And I'm talking hundreds of thousands of dollars. But I'm not worried, my rent is reasonable and I have a full time job I enjoy. So, I figure I have a lot to be happy about.

I actually thought all Peloton bikes had the same access to the different memberships. That is pretty shitty of them to do that, and it puts them into that category of a company that fucks you over Un purpose. Why not all their bikes are all compatible? I did consider signing up with Peloton and using my normal basic indoor bike, but I haven't as of yet and now won't even bother. Frankly, I hate indoor bikes, they are boring. What I do now though, is just pay TH-cam so I don't see commercials and watch videos while riding, anything entertaining. As for furniture, I haven't bought new furniture in ages. I buy used and the couch I have now, I have owned it for about 15 years, and it was second hand when I bought it. I would say it's about 20 years old. Sometimes old is better.
