- It's really quite something in this day and age to have a shop in London selling just Vintage Amps! It reminds me of going shopping as a kid and seeing shops specialising in all sorts of different things. Sweet Amps is a shop/workshop in Hackney with a really cool selection of Fender, Magnatone and Gibson amps as well as some others.

Love this place! Audio just taken on my shotgun mic but it captures the room well!
Hey James, just sitting here in the shop drinking a beer on a Friday afternoon after a long week, watching the video you made when you were here a couple of days ago. Great work! It’s only with your support that I can get the word out about what I’m doing here, so for that I’m truly grateful. Cheers!
Nice shop you got there guys! 👌
@@JasonHobbsGuitarist, thanks Jason, pop in!
Very cool shop! I may be over there in 2024, and I’m definitely coming by if that trip happens.
The idea of what sounds “better” might be debatable and subjective; however, there is no question about what is “cooler,” and this stuff is just the pinnacle of cool.
Thanks for taking us to sweet amps James. What a cool shop.
I remember as a kid in the late 70’s seeing these small Gibson, Silvertone and Gretsch combos for sale at garage and tag sales. Usually selling for $10 or $20. At that time these were considered practice or even student amps. We wanted 100 watt Marshalls or a Fender Bassman or Twin. How times have changed.
Very cool! I’m excited to see what all you bring home from this shop. I’ve had my eye on one of those old Gibsons for some time now. They just sound great.
I booked myself for an hour with Jim after seeing your video James. An absolute education with the lovely Jim. Many incredible amps in there
That’s great to hear! Glad you had fun 😃
Nice-one, thanks for shining a light on "Jims" shop ,It is good to know that he can put a 230/240 V transformer in any of those 117V amps for us to use "Safely". It is a burden having to use those step-down transformers being another heavy chunk of iron to drag around. That Bandmaster head and cab reminded me of the "Ventures" live in Japan record which has them playing Mosrite Guitars through them which sound out of this World. I like the Falcon 19, it may be low power(12watts) but the tone is perfect with a good Telecsster/Esquire type Guitar. Thanks again.
Gibson amps are really great! I never understood why they were never as big as fender
I own a 67 blackface super reverb, keep the Vibrolux reverb. That amp is going to go up in price more in the future. It’s very sought after. The Vibrolux reverb is one of the holy grail blackface amps if not the best amp they ever made imo. I own a 67 BF deluxe reverb, 67 BF Vibrolux Reverb and 67 BF super reverb all in pristine museum condition, all original. They are all keepers. Same fender tone but one for every situation. 👍 👌
The Rolling stones hackney diamond-.dont get angry at me for mentioning it💎
OMG that opening riff and sound awesome!
Thanks man! Tried to get my Delta on! 🤟🏼
Man.. if I lived in the UK that'd be a dangerous place for me. I love old Gibson and Magnatone amps. For what it's worth, I think Noble (among other variations like DaVinci and others) were re-branded Magnatones for certain markets or other department stores like you mentioned. No relation to Barnes and Noble, and I know at some point Danelectro were making Noble amps too. Someone with way more knowledge might be able to correct that, but the old American amps are so fascinating!
Love these old valve amps. My concern is once the original speaker goes so does half the magic.
Groovy!!! ✌👌👀
Great stuff James but I hope you got on their case about not shipping amps!.
I mean did they get to Hackney by osmosis?.
So when's a vintage Vox going to get a go?
Oof, would never sell my BF Vibrolux.
