This video is exactly what I needed. You're a hero. We've got a very extraverted male who loves to mimic us and has allowed me to give him scratches twice. The female is the exact opposite; shying away until she sees we're offering food, screaming loudly to get more food, generally scared. Thank you!
When the male comes to me, she is scared to be alone so she does follow and feels reasonably okay with me for as long as she gets treats or the male stays.
@@thatdabdog4637 We realized the female cockatiel wasn't really fit to keep indoors as a 'human friend'. So we found a really good place for her at a guy who knew what he was doing who had an outside cage along with a partly inside cage where she would join a much larger flock. She's very happy there now. In her stead we got a very gentle (rescue) male, who's only been improving since he's with us :)
I rescued a cockatiel, who's scared of humans. I slowly integrated him to my flock and now, 5 months later, he's begun to perch on my shoulder, nibble on my fingers and watching for my reaction. I can see he wants to come closer but he's scared to. I hope that given time, he'll allow me to give him scritches one day
how is it for now? I just bought cockatiel, he's super cute but super scared, trying to do my best to not scare him with any loud noises, or fast movements. im just curious how to make him more comfortable.
@@AcidFromMars I got mine from a flea market I heard those are the hardest to tame because of their treatment my bird is terrified of me but we have to be patient with them
Cockatiels generally startle quite easily. However, oddly, my girl cockatiel was extremely lovable from day one as if she knew us forever but I got her from a breeder which had tamed her. So that made a huge difference. But others were stiff for about two weeks before they hit comfortable.
my cocketiel bites me before i pick him up, but once hes on he has no problem, what do you think i should do? keep picking him up, or let him stay in his cage
I just got two cocktails and they’re very scared I put some sticks in the cage and they are used to them but whenever I put my hand they’re start to fly around any helpful ideas?
My male cockatiel was very scared when i first got him a month ago. He is now stepping up on my finger when he sees treats and he let me pet him twice. But he won't fly to my hand. He steps up if he can reach my finger. But when my finger is too far for him to step and he needs to jump or fly, he just freezes 😅 I don't know why but he hasn't been good at flying and landing on surfaces since I got him. I like to think that that's the reason.
@@syedhaider108 he likes millet spray. but you can give whatever they like. just make sure that you give the treat only as a treat, do not free feed them with it. because otherwise they wouldn’t take the risk to come to you when they can have access the treat without you.
