I just lost my cockatiel who was with me for 20 years... Its heartbreakin, we became friends and we hugged each other almost daily. For new owners make sure you spend time with your bird if, especially so if you only have one cockatiel, they will see you as their partner and get worried if youre not home too often. They will make you smile and they will do stuff but you will love them no matter what. Best of companions, and a lifetime experience for me what Doris was for me
So sorry for your loss! My cockatiel is about 9 years old now. I will be devastad when his time comes. We bonded very quickly and have a beautiful friendship. He loves to snuggle and come right under my chin to nuzzle in. There’s just no other relationship quite like one with a bird. Big hugs to you. You were both very lucky to find each other.
and my monk parakeet sat in a cage for maybe cumulative 2 hours. since i've got him a few days ago. yes. i leave home. he stay outside. i also have 2 budgies that are sharing the cage together. but if they want when i am at home they can get out. and go back in as they wish. all 3 of them are not tamed yet. one of the budgie alows pets when going to sleep and is calm tho.
I have recently bought my new little fella, Titus and i took my time to get to know him. It took a few weeks of just sitting on my couch and he observed me lol. Being older had its benefits..every kid wants to touch but as an adult I chose not to. I was careful abt letting him have cage free time and used a wooden spoon with a rounded handle to teach him to perch, not my fingers. Well what a thrill. He trusts me now. He now hops from the spoon to my flat hand, climbs up onto my shoulder. I sing to him, feed him grated carrot, broccolini, and grated apple along with his seed. I can’t whistle so i play him whistling tunes from Spotify. Thank you for your vid. I am keen to find out as much as I can to give my gorgeous pet the best care I can give ❤
I can't thank you enough for educating people about how to own a cockatiel pet correctly. These little creatures are awesome, so smart and lovable. Something else that is terrible is when owners start doing things to the cockatiel to elicit certain behaviors that they deem funny. Hence, some cockatiels become aggressive and hiss to people. Their livers suffer with this and their lifespan is shortened. Thank you!!! ❤
My aunt and uncle were terrible owners of a cockatiel. They named her "bird" and kept her in a tiny cage her entire life and fed her seeds alone. She plucked her feathers out. :(
My bird had a 3-5 month period of being in their cage but we’re fixing it. Remember, if you feel like a bad bird owner, you CAN become a good one. Just try to help your bird and fix your mistakes, and you will become the best bird owner you can be.

I plan to soon get a cockatiel because when i was a kid we used to have a pet bird but it died when i was a teenager and the ambiance of the household has never been the same since. Hopefully the tips shown are true and i thank you for making this video as i learned a bunch of new things about these birds!
0:29 I think this may go for every bird species. I know that my budgies do not like to be touched there. Whenever I touch Artemis’s, my male’s, wings or back by accident he flinches and flies away from me. They don’t like it.
New cockatiel owner, Story is, My brother didn't want to have the bird anymore, And It was either I take him or My grandma takes him, But she has a bunch of dogs, And I didn't want anything bad to happen To him, So I've been taking care of him, a little of a rocky start, Were both getting use to each other, And I'm enjoying owning this bird, His name is Sunshine, So this video IS a great reminder for me to be the best owner I can possibly be for him
That was so nice of you, I hope he has a wonderful life with ya. And yeah give him time, keep working with him, he’ll warm up to ya. We had a grey tiel when I was younger and his name was sunshine, he was super fearful of me but over a few months with me being gentle and giving him his space he eventually started trusting me more
Did u consider getting another bird? I'm also away from home for at least 6 hrs daily and I want a cockateil, and I just want to ask, is she fine by being alone or she needs another bird?
@@User46760I’m also wondering this. I’m thinking of getting a cockatiel in the summer so I can spend as much time with it. But when school comes back I will be gone and busy often. So yea, I was wondering the same thing
Hello. Thanks for the wonderful video. I just rescued a Cockatiel from my backyard she can’t fly and I need all the help and suggestions you can give me. Also I have a nice kitty in home but she’s really friendly with him. But I never had a bird before
I have a cockatiel who can't fly as well! A good tip I have is to give them lots of perches that connect! Similar to cats, I've noticed they love being high-up. Make sure it isn't too high though, so if your bird falls by any chance, it can safely glide down. Also, once you get closer with your bird, you can train it to ride on your shoulder. Mine currently is fully trained to do this, and it helps a lot, especially with a bird who can't fly :)
My first cockatiels were hand raised…they came out of their cage when we were in the room….but the cage door was never left open. I used to breed budgies so I’m certainly NOT a newby…might I remind you that this parrot along with the budgie, cockatoo, galah & corella are native to my country of Australia…we know about them here
@@Bebsyamagutibut mine isn’t tamed , what should I do , my room is full of tiny places and I am afraid that he will be afraid and get stuck into those places .do I have to let him outside? and how to get him back to the cage
@@omarhamdan2370You need to first get it to step up on your hand. Once that's been achieved the. You can take him out of the cage and hold him on you hand while sitting on your bed or something. See if he will let you pet his head. It may take a while. Work up to longer times out of the cage and the bird trusting you more. I doubt it going to fly off to some place and hide. It will just want to go back to it's cage.
@@omarhamdan2370 train them 'step up 'if he is afraid of your hands than use a stick instead of your hand. After training it is very easy to put them back in their cage using a stick.
We cliped our cockatiel wings because it's was a suprised and all we had is a small cage and since we had a non bird proof room we cliped his wings(not fully he can still fly just not to the celling that's nonbirdproof) today we plan on buying him a big cage toys vitamins and more😊
I just bought a 2 months old cockatiel (lutino)today. Does the cold affect the cockatiel? Is it alright to turn on air conditioner with him in the room. I also cover the cage with something so he can sleep well. Is it alright to do that?
AC this time of year? You in Oz or NZ? AC is okay, but not too cold, and not blowing on the bird. You can lower a room to 20-21C (68-70F), no problem. Covering the cage is good if there a lot of nighttime noises or distractions.
Hi, I hope you don't mind me asking, but I got my bird two days ago, and it hates staying inside the cage. (We still don't know the gender.) It didn't sleep the first day we got it or eat yesterday. I placed it in the cage so it could eat, but it still wouldn't and wanted to get out. So, I got it out of the cage and placed it on my shoulder while doing work and talking to it. After that, it started eating. I know they need to sleep at night and eat in the morning and evening, but it doesn't want to go inside the cage and sleeps on top of my closet or the AC. (The AC isn't on, though, so don't worry.) But I'm afraid it's not sleeping well because the noises will obviously wake it up. I'm just really lost on what to do. I want it to eat well and sleep well. I heard that if they eat at random times, it could be harmful to them. If you have any tips, please give them.@@Groundx1
Hey . Can you make a video on how to train your bird to fly . My cocktail doesnt know how to fly properly and he gets scared easily . So he starts flying around the hous, bumping into walls . Please make a tutorial on how to train his flying abillity
This might be a it late but the only way for you bird to learn to better control his flying us to let him do it. I was given a 5 year old cockatiel I was told had been allowed out of his (small) cage all the time except he flew like he was on day 5 of a week long bender, into walls, people, curtains, furniture, the dog and us it was hilarious but also so sad to see he’d not been treated as he should have been. I moved him into a larger cafe that I had and from the very first day he was here he was encouraged out of the cage. Now it’s a year later and I open his cage on the morning and I don’t close it again until bedtime or on the rare occasions the front door may be open a bit too long. He flies like a champ, his favourite spot is my shoulder or his perch in my shower when I’m in there and his cage is just his safe space for food, drinks, naps and nighttime. I also can’t recommend a hardness highly enough. It’s often traumatising to us both to get it on and off him but once he realised harness = being outside with me without being locked in his small outside cage he now loves the harness. He doesn’t mind his travel bag but the harness is his favourite.
I live alone and I can’t have a cat bc of the lease but a bird is ok so I’m gunna get a cockatiel. We can snuggle and eat snacks together. I have all the time for a bird. I can even take them to work.
Check your tiel's diet. They want to eat the same thing as you, and are particularly fond of salty, sweet and fatty foods. Do not indulge them, as the food we eat is often toxic to tiels. Unfortunately learned the hard way.
Sounds horrible. I really hope your Bird survived. There are useful Lists online which you can use to find out if something is ok for your Cockatiel to eat. The biggest No-Gos for them, which they should never eat, are Chocolate, Tomato and Avocado. Also be cautious regarding Plants in the Room because some of the most common decorative Plants also shouldn't be kept where they can reach them
need help with my cockatiel I've done research on Budgies for years and I'm learning on Cockatiels now. I'm waiting for everything to be set and ready before I get the bird. Like the cage, once it's fully setup with the right things, once I bird proof my room, once Ive learned everything I need such as food, taming, sickness, moods, and so on. But I'm confused about something. So Budgies (from my knowledge) need about a week or two alone in the cage to understand the surroundings and you. You could rub your finger on the cage and such so they can get used to you. But is that the same with cockatiels? If so, how long do I need to wait until they're okay with their surroundings? What do I do when I first get it? And how soon should I let it out the cage so it can fly freely in my room?
They may need some time to adjust to their new environment, and you should give them at least a week to adapt while you spend time near them, talking in a calm voice, offering treats, and letting them get used to your presence. You also have to wait until the bird is comfortable with you before allowing them to fly freely. This can take a few weeks or longer. Also, you should start by allowing the bird out of the cage in a small, enclosed space, gradually increasing the amount of time it spends outside.
Every bird is different but you can let them out as early as the first day. The longer you wait to let them out the more they will want to just stay in the cage and actually become afraid of coming out. They will see the cage as their only safe place and that will hinder your ability to bond with them. Check out bird tricks here on TH-cam they have lots of great videos!
None of them need a week or two alone in a cage. Where did you hear that? Put them in their cage and leave the cage door open. My conure was my best friend by day 3. He's always out and about but mostly loves to hang put on my shoulder.
@@nexusfairy3038I know that my Answer to this Comment comes pretty late but I agree. This seems like way too much Time. I've already let my Cockatiels out on the second Day and if I remember correctly, my male even already landed on my Head on that Day, even though Things were a bit wild for the first Minutes after opening the Cage
I've been wanting to get a cockatiel but I work in a different city would it be advisable to have another cockatiel to keep the other company in my absence?
@@ParrotsAwesomeness Got it thank you for the advice, I used to own two cockatiels when I was 8 they both flew away and looking back on it I wanted to try again because of how cute they are and how happy they made me feel seeing them coming back from school
I strongly advise to get a Pair. It's also a good Idea to go to a Animal Shelter for that, because I've heard it's pretty common for Cockatiels to end in there. Also think about doing lots of Research
Part of the reason I just let a ten year relationship was over my ex, cause she did not want a mate for my cockatiel Breeze and just saw pets as a chore or keep them in cages all the time. When she would sit on checkers and think they were eggs lol. This woman closed the door and almost scalped her crest off her head! She even got high and open the cage and let her fly into a ceiling fan. I know she has depression and issues, but she literally almost killed my bird so many times when I was at work, I’d be so nervous. She is so sweet and loves scratches, I got her 8 years ago when her daughter wanted to just leave her in a room who is autistic and didn’t know how to properly care for pets. Anyway, I had to get outta there with my bird. Now she has bad allergies and eyes are watery in this new apartment. She has conjunctivitis and I’m saving money for the avian vet to see her. Pray for my baby, Breeze! She got me through so much trauma like my sister overdosing. Breeze would fly and land on the couch after my surgery to give me love and encouragement… RIP Christina…
My cockatiel is always outside of the cage, the door is always open, he rarely stays inside, generally just to eat. I dont want to put him in cage. Thanks him he does not land on everwhere, he just stays near the cage, rarely lands on places and leave some poo. The poo is very small and never stinks, I collect his poos in a plate and add them to flowers pots. The flowers became stronger and shiner.
im a newbie, im just wondering if its normal for cockatiel to not sleep with its chick? mine i think turning 3 weeks old chick now doesn't have a lot of feathers yet but i saw the eyes are already open. im just worried the chick might day from cold. its rainy season here
I’d like to encourage new cockatiel pet owners to go slowly, gently, quietly to win their trust. It does take time. Please, please don’t be quick to touch and pat them first up. You are frightening your bird! You’ll lose a finger. Noone wants that! Use a wooden spoon handle or a stick to get your bird to get used to stepping up and eventually he will warm to you and hop up on your hand, shoulder, back. Let them come to you, let them have the choice. You’ll have a happy birdy! ❤❤❤
Question: can a single cockatiel be left alone a few hours a day?I work at the office two to three days a week and the rest I’m at home. If I give it full of love and attention when I’m back home, will it be fine? I had budgies before but I’m considering adopting a cockatiel.
Hello, I have a male cockatiel and he is addicted to the mirror. I have a female one, but he beahaves angrily with the female cockatiel and dosent show affection to her. I want to separate the male co from the mirror, but Im afraid that he will hurt himself or become depressed. What can I do for him? Please help me I love my bird
My bird had the same problem with the mirror, honestly just take the mirror away and he'll get over it pretty quickly. Just keep note that if it sees itself in the mirror again after a while it'll still sing to it
Give him cage free time too and feed him grated carrot, grated apple, thin slices of continental cucumber, unsalted nuts, broccolini. Happy birdy then! ❤
At the moment pets like birds would be too much of a responsibility for me but I’m going to get some easy pets like snails and maybe one day I can get budgies or cockatiels
If I remember correctly Finches don't need nearly as much Attention as Parrots. Maybe some Zebra Finches or Java Finches would be a good Option for you. I'm not to 100% sure though and strongly advise to still do lots of Research before
@@GeckoTech_Engineer 🤔 did your Situation better because you're immediately starting with Budgies? Or do they need way less Attention than other Parrots?

But as soon as my hand comes close she leaves. I can feel her by hand but she is timid at first. I also hang out with her all day and she loves playing around the room. You can take a Look in a Animal Shelter if you need to find a Partner for your Bird, because Cockatiels seem to be pretty common there, from what I've heard. I hope, I could help 😊
It is the dilemma of most pet owners…so spending time with them is important. Toys, a hanging mirror, veggie treats, playing music to them maybe leaving a radio or tv on while you’re apart. Plenty of cage free time when you’re home I reckon. ❤

My cockatiels keep mating and it’s difficult to bond with them. I try my best to give treats to encourage them to go on my hand, and stay by them whilst studying. I don’t know what to do since they’re very protective, and I was so close before they started mating
@@ellotheearthling Yes I understand I've made a mistake with this. I just want to know if anyone can give me any tips since I don't want to just abandon them :)
There's really not much you can do besides separating them. There are some ways to discourage but they only have a moderate chance of success and that changes every breeding season. A male and female bird will get horny at some point and will begin to attempt to mate. Just the course of nature.

Provide a warm, quiet space for the cockatiel, with fresh water and food like seeds or Millet. Avoid handling it too much initially, and speak softly. Monitor its health and, if it doesn’t start eating or shows signs of illness, consult an avian vet. Also, try to search if anyone lost a cockatiel in your area.

Try not to move much while holding Millet in your Hand in a Way that it can eat without needing to get on your Arm. You can also try to feed it with Millet through the Bars of the Cage to gain Trust. Works relatively good with my female. Don't try to pet it though until you've gained its Trust and even then you should be cautious because if they are getting really serious while biting, they can rip your Finger open in a Way that it might need a few Hours to stop bleeding

@@7sson-hasson-310 Cockatiels can even reach 30 Years. Some Color Variations like Lutinos are most of the Time only reaching half of that though due to bad Breeding Decissions in past Generations where they've always bred those together which means, there wasn't really that much genetic Diversity and they should've definitely also used some wild colored ones from Time to Time to bring in fresh genetic Material. One good Channel who also made a few Video about Cockatiels is Soda Pets, The Parrot Teacher is also a pretty good Channel and Clints Reptiles released a Video about Cockatiels today (for this one I must say though that it's rather controversial to use a sanded Perch to reduce the Claw Length and Mirrors also shouldn't be used in a Bird Cage, but besides that, it is a really good Video where you can learn some of the most important Things about Cockatiel Care)

You could try feeding them with Millet through the Bars of their Cage to slowly gain their Trust. Maybe it helps to encourage them to get out of the Cage
This is an easy one. I think you gotta realise you and your family are too noisy, careless, inconsiderate and therefore not compatible to your pets. Like Caesar the Dog whisperer has told ppl you gotta change YOUR behaviour to fit in with these clever precious creatures. Go GENTLY. Quietly. Carefully. If not, sell them to more responsible bird owners and get a dog! 😂
You definitely shouldn't leave them inside the Cage for a unnecessarilly long Amount of Time. They should be able to leave the Cage each Day if possible. I recommend to let them out of the Cage when you don't need to leave the House anymore for the Rest of the Day because it can take some Time for them to get back into the Cage. But they usually return into the Cage when they want to sleep
Is it an emergency to get it out? If not, don't. Keep the cage door open and in the same room as you. They'll come out when their ready. Offer treats, talk to them.
I have 2 cockatiels and one bite you when you try to pet him with finger and likes petting with nose My 2nd cockatiel is exactly reversed, like with finger but hate with nose
You gotta think from their perspective. We are giants to them, of course they are going to defend themselves. The special trait about cockatiels is their intelligence. They are very smart and it would be better if you stopped trying to touch them (frightening them!) Use a stick or a wooden spoon handle for them to perch on.
I had a girl pigeon who saw me as her mate. I guess it's not a bad feeling. but I have 4 cockatiels now. so there's gonna be trouble if any of them get jealous.
u have to clip their nails u did it wrong so it bled.If u don’t clip the nails they are gonna be really sharp.Like humans need to have their nails cut so do animals.
Please please please don't give your birds mirrors. Birds don't understand that the bird in the mirror isn't real. They try to interact with them and get frustrated because it doesn't work. Just get your bird a companion of the same species and opposite gender. It's the best for any bird. It's the only way for a bird to not feel lonely. A mirror will never be company for a bird, but will make it depressed and encourage unhealthy behavior.
@@Fairy_lover123 They always seem to love it. But birds can't understand that what they see in the mirror is not real. They're happy not to be alone when in reality they are. And over time, they will grow frustrated because they can't interact with the bird in the mirror.
I agree that Mirrors don't belong in a Bird Cage. It should have a Partner instead. My male Cockatiel sat on the Floor outside of the Cage once and interacted with the other male in the Mirror but after a few Minutes of Fun with his Reflection, he stopped because he loves it way more to interact with his Mate
I've had 2 Lutino Cockatiels [male and female] For eight months, and yet my mother doesn't let me bond with them, ever, and she always gets them in the balcony, and never allows me to get them outside of the cage because of their "poop", like I'm so tired man :/

First up have a think about when you first meet someone would you like them touching you all over? No? Well that’s the same for these intelligent beautiful birds. Take your time. Be patient. Sit near her cage so your bird can eye you off lol. Observe you. It really is true about having to win their trust. We are like giants to them and we need to act gently. No sudden movements. I can’t whistle but I play whistling tunes on Spotify and sing to my cockatiel Titus. He listens it’s so cute. I have a really good cage where it opens up at the ceiling and i open it every day and now Titus knows and gets ready to climb up! They are very smart. I doubt yours would fly away unless you keep your windows open. Im in Australia and there’s too many native birds to attack him so I leave him inside out of the cage still. He goes on my window ledges. 😂❤
My tiel loves a cookie we give it and it always eat from our fingers/hand, even the crumbs. But sometimes he will bite aggressively after eating the cookie even though there are visible crumbs. His behaviour really puzzles us
In my opinion he really wants the crumbs lol!! He’s prob demanding more, could try telling him no more/all done, and offer his regular food if he insists
Mine are not alone at all. Whenever we leave the house, it's only the cat who remains home with them. She is really gentle and loving. Anyway we never leave our cockatiels outside of their cage without our supervision. Of course, cat issues... We first had two, a male and a female, and now we have 4. Another girl and boy. They are cubs, not bought from the Pet Shop because our two little angels made babies. We had to have the 3 baby cockatiel long after the birth or our two little ones, but it sadly passed away shortly after hatching. I was so sad... but now they made other 4 eggs and we are waiting to see if we are gonna get other babies. I pray that the babies will be healthy and able to live. ❤🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣

Titus, as in WH40K Titus? :)

Great, now I have to forever live with the knowledge that I’ve been jerking-off “Crystal”, my cousin’s cockatiel….

Hello. Thanks for the wonderful video. I just rescued a Cockatiel from my backyard she can’t fly and I need all the help and suggestions you can give me. Also I have a nice kitty in home but she’s really friendly with him. But I never had a bird before
Just never leave them unattended..they can get along but accidents happen!
So what should I do now to make it right 0:52
I'm glad that I not only researched a lot before but also got Support from another Cockatiel Owner, so I didn't do any of those Things😊
My first cockatiels were hand raised…they came out of their cage when we were in the room….but the cage door was never left open.
I used to breed budgies so I’m certainly NOT a newby…might I remind you that this parrot along with the budgie, cockatoo, galah & corella are native to my country of Australia…we know about them here
My bird is really attached to me and my family, he loves to sit on my shoulder and will fly to me from the perch on top of his cage!
Thank you so much for this I’m saving up to get one and I’m almost there now I need to write some rules😂
3:20-4:14 But what if you have to go out a lot and your cockatiel can't come? Is it best to have two at a time for when your out?
Yes!! You should always have 2 or more! But it's important to let them out at least an hour daily

@@omarhamdan2370You need to first get it to step up on your hand. Once that's been achieved the. You can take him out of the cage and hold him on you hand while sitting on your bed or something.
Also be cautious regarding Plants in the Room because some of the most common decorative Plants also shouldn't be kept where they can reach them

need help with my cockatiel
I've done research on Budgies for years and I'm learning on Cockatiels now.

Thanks for sharing and good on you for assuming responsibility for Breeze. Have you tried feeding her grated carrot or apple or broccolini? ❤

Depends. Do you keep your Cockatiel alone (which you shouldn't do anyways if possible). Then it's most likely not enough. If your Bird has a Partner of the same Species, it's a good Amount of Time. You can take a Look in a Animal Shelter if you need to find a Partner for your Bird, because Cockatiels seem to be pretty common there, from what I've heard.

There's really not much you can do besides separating them. There are some ways to discourage but they only have a moderate chance of success and that changes every breeding season. A male and female bird will get horny at some point and will begin to attempt to mate. Just the course of nature.

Can you go into more Detail? What exactly do you mean with not friendly at all? Does it try to bite if you get too close? Maybe it's just the Birds Personality or you just need to bond more with it. Try not to move much while holding Millet in your Hand in a Way that it can eat without needing to get on your Arm. You can also try to feed it with Millet through the Bars of the Cage to gain Trust. Works relatively good with my female. Don't try to pet it though until you've gained its Trust and even then you should be cautious because if they are getting really serious while biting, they can rip your Finger open in a Way that it might need a few Hours to stop bleeding

no i didn't mean it bites i meant its kinda like it fears me and thinks I'm not trustworthy , thanks for all advices you seem like a pet shop owner no?
@@7sson-hasson-310 no Pet Shop Owner but I do have my Pair of Cockatiels for almost a Year now and did lots of Research. I'm also in Contact with another Cockatiel Owner who provides me with useful Informations. Would be nice though if I could work in a Pet Shop😊
My female is also rather shy but I've read somewhere that it can even take Years for some Individuals to properly trust their Owner.
I do have the Suspicion that maybe my male was Hand raised and my female wasn't. Could also be though because my male has way more Experience with People because he had multiple Owners before me and is already 16 Years old, while my female probably only lived with the Person from which I've got her and the Breeder when she was really small, because she is only 3 Years old
@@Firestar-TV i see it is indeed a nice talk with you , How can a single bird live 16 years ? i never knew this , Can you suggest videos or tutorials for a beginner like me please ?
@@7sson-hasson-310 Cockatiels can even reach 30 Years. Some Color Variations like Lutinos are most of the Time only reaching half of that though due to bad Breeding Decissions in past Generations where they've always bred those together which means, there wasn't really that much genetic Diversity and they should've definitely also used some wild colored ones from Time to Time to bring in fresh genetic Material.
One good Channel who also made a few Video about Cockatiels is Soda Pets, The Parrot Teacher is also a pretty good Channel and Clints Reptiles released a Video about Cockatiels today (for this one I must say though that it's rather controversial to use a sanded Perch to reduce the Claw Length and Mirrors also shouldn't be used in a Bird Cage, but besides that, it is a really good Video where you can learn some of the most important Things about Cockatiel Care)
my cockatiel has “mate” bonded with my dad and is now hostile to the rest of my family and i. is there a way to undo this or anything?
🤔 I'm no Expert but maybe your Dad should reduce the Contact as much as possible for some Time and if you only have one Cockatiel, try to get a Partner of the opposite Gender for it within that Time. Hopefully they will bond then with each other instead. Also educate your Dad about properly petting a Cockatiel in the Case that it might come from him petting it on its Back or Wings.
I really hope that I was able to help and would love to read a Update about the Situation
I have two parakeets one blue one yellow idk if i should get em out of the cage
What are the food we can give
Good quality seed they like sunflower seeds, grated carrot, grated apple, unsalted nuts, broccoli or broccolini. Mine loves broccolini. 😊
I've had my cockatiel for 4 full days now, she's almost 3 months old, thankfully i've only made one of these mistakes by petting her on the back
Had mine for 15 years, Good luck with your journey,
@@xenxike500 thank you 🙂
What if i have school doi skip it?
If you are not ready or have the time, then don’t get one yet
Just get another Cockatiel for company!
…birdie was my oldest sisters pet and he took a liking to me specifically probably because of how I was petting him. Is the mate bond thing irreversible? He does kinda bite anyone else…
I always touch my cockatiels back
Bad pet owner then 😮
Umm hello what time does my cockatiel bathe because 1 year he did not bathe until now
please help me, i was gone for three months, and i told my family to watch her, they didn't get it out, now my female cockatiel can't fly, before it used to fly perfectly but now it can fly only a little bit, How can i give her the strength back?
I always wanted a cockatiel but I have college. Is it okay for it to be left alone for a few hours or should I get a pair?
a bonded pair will be better
MOST types of birds are highly sociable including cocktails and canaries and if you leave them alone, it is PURE TORTURE FOR THEM and that is an EMOTIONAL ABUSE ! if you are not able be with them 24-7, then you HAVE TO HAVE AT LEAST 2 OF THEM AT ALL TIMES !
Many birds live solo and live long happy lives. Do what you think it's best
@@hollylaprade2903that's pretty bad Advice. They are highly social Animals and should definitely be kept with a Partner of the same Species. Especially if you can't stay with it all the Time
This Story is absolutely True! I have had about 20 or more Cockatiels in my life. mostly people keep them in a too small cage. no toys and no friends is very sad. that is why i took in another baby who has been all alone long days, because the owner needs to work. now she is having a new much better life.🦜
1 month quarantine is insane.
They're just like kids in a feather form
My cockatiel died of a unknown predator. Half of his face was gone and I was only 7 it was so graphic and I couldn’t stop crying.
My cockatiels don't ever leave their cage even if I open the cage they never want to leave the cage cuz they are scared of my whole family and run from use in the cage
Lol my Tiel likes to get fed by me cuz whenever I come outside he instantly calls me for food and when I open the cage he instantly comes to me and when I was done feeding him and I left he started like- Idk calling for my name
I got 2 month cockatiel but I don.t know if I can play with him
Hold a rubber band for him to chew. They love rubber.
If I keep them in my cage they would fly but I’m trying to tame them I will let them out when they are trained can I do that?
You definitely shouldn't leave them inside the Cage for a unnecessarilly long Amount of Time. They should be able to leave the Cage each Day if possible. I recommend to let them out of the Cage when you don't need to leave the House anymore for the Rest of the Day because it can take some Time for them to get back into the Cage. But they usually return into the Cage when they want to sleep
My cockatiel sleeps on my shoulder and walks on me literally, but won’t let me pet him, he starts attacking me, why is that ??
Try hand feeding him keep the food on your hand and make him to eat
If you hand feed he will not get scared of your hands
@@Thaneesh05 okay I will, thanks 🙏🏻

Try to bond more

I feel bad for ppl who own a cocka but dont know the tips in this video
I own a 2 month old cocka it never bites :)
How do I get it out of the cage without touching it?
Is it an emergency to get it out? If not, don't. Keep the cage door open and in the same room as you. They'll come out when their ready. Offer treats, talk to them.
@@nexusfairy3038 thanks
I have 2 cockatiels and one bite you when you try to pet him with finger and likes petting with nose
My 2nd cockatiel is exactly reversed, like with finger but hate with nose
Many birds are afraid of a finger:) Use your hand
You gotta think from their perspective. We are giants to them, of course they are going to defend themselves. The special trait about cockatiels is their intelligence. They are very smart and it would be better if you stopped trying to touch them (frightening them!) Use a stick or a wooden spoon handle for them to perch on.
When I try to touch my cockatiel he attack me what could I do please any one tell me
It takes time to build trust. Offer treats. Sing..whistle, talk to them. Eventually they'll trust you 😌
I brought a 45 day old baby cockatiel. I'm trying to hand tame them, can someone please give some advice?
I had a girl pigeon who saw me as her mate. I guess it's not a bad feeling. but I have 4 cockatiels now. so there's gonna be trouble if any of them get jealous.
Never clip nails! I did once and it was bleeding.
u have to clip their nails u did it wrong so it bled.If u don’t clip the nails they are gonna be really sharp.Like humans need to have their nails cut so do animals.
My cockatiel is called lemon cuz he is like a lemon and right now he is on a mirror toy trying to kill the mirror😂😂
Oh but he loves it we give him mirrors so he can learn to talk he talks whenever a mirror is nearby
ARE U TELLING ME TO GET MONEY? I'M POOR
We have two pairs but when they have eggs, cannot hatch because no fertilizer, please help
What if I pet him on the belly
Head and feet only.
Can I leave it if I go school?😢
Yes but get home and hang out with your bird friend don't leave him hanging alone
How to keep male and female cockatiel in same cage, without having any eggs or babies??
Pls suggest..
I've had 2 Lutino Cockatiels [male and female]
For eight months, and yet my mother doesn't let me bond with them, ever, and she always gets them in the balcony, and never allows me to get them outside of the cage because of their "poop", like I'm so tired man :/
One quesion:I have a cockatiel and it doesnt like to be touched. I tried bonding with it for several times but it keeps rejecting me...what should i do? I want to let it out of cage nut cant bc im scared she will fly away and never come back to cage...(if you want to respond pls like my comment cause i cant see if someone responded or not)
First up have a think about when you first meet someone would you like them touching you all over?
And then ignore it^^^ and then ur word can be the last discussion on the matter lol!! Like a toddler 😭❤️
Trying to connect with my baby Rico but he is slowly coming around trying daily with him.
Can someone suggest a common name for a cocktail
Bro i bought cocktail my parents will go and im also will go my brother will come at 1 o clock evening did it will leave for 5 hours alone
Is it ok to keep a cockatiel in your room ?
⭐⭐⭐
for those who dont understand why dont grab them. Imagine you beong grabed by a giant
mi cacatiel watches with me all the time
In July 2023 , Me and my family adopted 2 cockatiels the pet shop owner clipped their wings. It’s been 6 months And they still can’t fly becuase I want to teach them how to fly to me 😢
