Ten Haag is 100% right. I don't care if his team has been crap. That is an absolute fact, Southagte pulls this cowardly tactic out all the time, and it demoralizes the players. You cannot win like that. When I saw us line up against Italy, Italy knew whop they were, they'd do anything, they had belief. We've got anxiety and uncertainty because Southgate exudes it. I still think there's an elephant in the room with regards to Foden and that's that this England side doesn't play risky passes, no risk, no reward. Foden likes to receive the ball in tight areas and make quick movements. I can only assume it's Southgate's instructions but even when Foden makes runs and creates space (which he did against Serbia) we often turn back and go for the safe 100% pass.

It's not excuses, it's facts. Rice/TAA/Bellingham take too many touches and safe side ways passes.
Mulitple times Foden was in the pocket and Rice/TAA/Bellingham just too slow.
It's actually why England stopped dominating the ball.
Serbia just pushed up and stopped giving the likes of Rice/TAA/Bellingham, those 4/5 touches to find a pass.
If you actually watch Foden, and Saka is also class at it on the right, he doesn't pass and stand watching his pass. They pass and then immediately they're off running into space. Foden/Saka don't need 3 or 4 touches to find a pass and they dont just stand there watching the pass.
Kane was just as guilty at times. He was taking 4/5 touches and making it so easy for the Serbia defenders to close the space.

But Stankovic is a better coach than Southgate. Serbia had plan B in the second half. Serbia, in essence, became England and England became Serbia.

England have near as dammit always sit back once they've scored first, is historical. This Platinum Generation of English players is particularly hard to watch, and as a Spaniard I can see many similar traits to the batch of players Spain had prior to us dominating the international game for the magical period. Spain's major problem was team harmony, gelling Real Madrid and Barcelona players who actually despised each other. Southgate, to his great credit, has made talented players who play high octane matches against each other week in week out in the EPL, some fiercer than others, and fashioned a camp that exudes friendship and team spirit without any internal tribalism from his players. Is a first step and has been hurdled very well. Unfortunately, you don't win tournaments by being a beautifully harmonious camp, tactics and putting the right players in their correct positions. Spain were never lucky and never did you see that team, witness especially in the WC final of 2010, panic ay any time. Indeed, at Euro 2012 they went beast mode and blitzed the tournament and arguably played the best football we have seen this century (so far) without a recognised striker. This tournament will be won by not conceding goals, even though we're seeing lots of them being scored, but neither England or Spain have the defensive players at their disposal right now to truly convince us of their credentials. And I can't see that Southgate will ever unshackle his talent fully. He won't let Rice lone hold the midfield (Rice is no Rodri, and is nowhere near Busquets), allowing his amazingly gifted forward players to express themselves to their fullest. Too pragmatic, and (I can't believe am typing this bit) without Maguire at the back (who's never been either a Puyol, a Pique and is nowhere near a Ramos but has been England's rock in defence when called upon) they will get exposed. England are not a team that wins by scoring more goals than the opposition, never showed that capacity in all my years shaking my head at their performances.
In short...DON'T HOLD YOUR BREATH, YOU WILL TURN BLUE (and feel it) AND EVENTUALLY GIVE UP!!!

The banter between these 3 is excellent. I wish they could do more shows when they are all in the same room together - the laughs and p*ss taking of each other is what makes this show so good. keep up the good work lads

Southgate suffers from David Moyes syndrome. One up, then sit-back, sit-back, sit-back... With England's front-line, it's insane.

I see a lot of Finalists of the elite football competitions in the comments. Many managers with the experience to take their players to finals and semi finals. Well done all of you ex England players who are now management who know so much, have so much experience and are unbelievably talented.

Bellingham can play deeper Foden can’t. Foden would scare the defence in the number 10. My concern is more around how poorly England played in general once the opposition took the initiative.

But Bellingham is better at no.10 than further back and he better than foden

ETH is absolutely right. This is England with one of the best squads in the world, Micah doing mental gymnastics to try and compare Utd playing against the best team in club football vs England (one of the best squads in the world) playing against Serbia ffs.
