- This video is to help everyone out there that has a 1994-96 Honda accord and can't find the fuel pump / main relay. If ur car won't start on cold or warm days here is ur problem. Bad or cold solder
10 years later and it’s still helping people out. I was hoping enough people asking for a video about sodering it but I don’t see one 😢

I was just given a 1994 Honda Accord with 32,000 miles. The only thing. It’s sat for 10 years in the garage. I just finish spending $1,500. Replacing parts. If only I saw this video before I spent all the money. Thanks for you post.

I would like to thank you for sharing this . My car died while driving it . I got it started a couple of times but had to get towed . Had it taken to the shop . They got in it started and showed no symptoms .They test drove it several times. Nothing. They tested the fuel pressure and told me if I left it with them they would dig deeper $$$$$ to try to find the problem . I opted to take it home .Next time I left the house same thing . I got it started and got it home. I found this video , went and got a new relay switched it and presto !!! My car was a 1996 Honda accord
Might have to try this. Been there. It would start. Get to certain place. Then boom when its hot it wont start. Guy from the smog said it might be the coil from the distributor but my buddy said it could be this.
For godsake take the key out of the ignition

I learned from this video first and then I fixed my 2001 Honda accord. I believe it's 1997 to 2001. I did not attempt to sader it. I just went and bought a BRAND NEW FUEL PUMP MAIN RELAY off ebay for less then $20 and free shipping. ALL you have to do is get under the dash. before YOU GET UNDER THE DASH TAKE A SMALL FLAT HEAD SCREW DRIVER AND THE RELAY AND SET IT ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE FLOOR. So when you are under there Your head faces the center of the dash bottom.. Right there in front of your face is the relay. Once you find it take the screwdriver and pull the clip down in the bottom center.
At the same time pull the connection out. Put the new relay in and wala. You don't even have to take the old mounted one out ! To much work. PLEASE give chotula some love. HE is the hero !
Found this plus the comments and I fixed my 94 Honda Accord from not cranking in the heat with a simple solder of Fuel Pump Relay Switch, easy and cheap to fix over all the alternatives. Thank you and I hope you all have a blessed day or night peace ✌️🦉🖖
The location seems to be easier to access on 94-96 Accords, but the relay part number is the SAME for 90-93 Accords (and some Acura models, too!) Good video.

94 accord main relay located right of steering column under dash. Fairly easy to get to. Experiencing same issue with my accord. Headed to autozone now!

Thank you so much for this helpful video! I got a new relay and this resolved the problem of my car stalling out in the Vegas heat. $55 part and just a 5 minute fix done off the side of the road. Empowering!

oh that was so simple. I just got call from my mechanic for the same. I already spend lots of money on my 97 accord to resolves that but every morning i am the car is not starting. Thanks for the post
Thanks man this really helped, we thought it was the fuel pump replaced it and it didn't fix the problem looked into it and found it was the main relay. Didn't know how to fix it and found this video.

Would be nice to know exactly what you soldered ? Appears to be 8 pins. I have no idea what is under the case because you didn't bother to show us. "Here is an airplane, it flies, so fly it ?" "Here is a car, with a relay,located here, solder it ?" Obviously you didn't solder the pins to the wiring harness. Maybe pin number 8 has a cold solder joint that is broken ? Thanks for what you did show. It is something to start with.

Poor Lazy Man Patch: my car 94 accord sedan ex manual vtec started doing this after sitting for 8 months. it wasnt getting gas and if your stuck somewhere or just want it to start and worry about it later HERES HOW: detach the pcv valve at the top of the engine and pour a little gas into the hose that goes into the pcv valve! doesnt take much but i did it and it fired, sputtered then i did it three more times and finally it kick started the system and ran like a top! (If it doesnt fire or sputter you may have flooded it, give it ten minutes).. that was two weeks ago and 400 miles later it has done it twice more but i keep a little gas in my trunk and primered the engine myself! (after intial start I only had to add gas one time per start) I even had to use an old straw and get gas out of a lawnmower because its all i had access to!!! Long live Honda!!!!!!!!!! Great Vid Guy will repair relay myself tomorrow
Daniel Amonett Disclaimer: this worked great but my car has been having intermittent no-start issue, turns over, doesn't fire, never dies while driving and seems to not start in humid weather after 8-12+ hours of sitting

I did this for my 1990 Honda accord took it out and knew it was OK but it was fine my fuel pump was shot rusted out and also replaced my fuel sending unit in my gas tank 30 year old car started up no smoke running like a top after setting up for 3 years on my buddies property. Follow the leader they are in a Honda lol good video check this first as fuel pump was 160 bucks same for fuel sending unit replaced both for about 300 bucks.
I am going to try this tomorrow. I was ready to sell this 95 wagon. Wish me luck.🤞

My 94 Civic vx relay was on the left where you first indicated. I resoldered all the places on the PC board rather than miss something. It worked just fine.
How , and what did you use to re solder it ? Im having this problem right now
@@xochiltherrera9075 I bought a soldering iron off amazon.. a volador 30 in 1 kit for $29.99. I had bought it previously for a different project (a cell phone repair, which i then took instead to a repair place when I saw how tiny the parts were)... I set the soldering iron on high. Includes the solder pump for removing old solder. Heat up the joints and suck off the old solder, heat again and put on new. 40 years ago I used had a job soldering pc boards.. hadn't done it since then but went fine. I did use a solder wire that had a flux core (which helps it flow nicely.)

I soldered the board and 5 of the 20 joints popped because they were so poorly created. A bad solder will have air pockets. I thought I'd get some in my eyes. New it was 58.. Thank you very much.
Thanks for the bit of information. I replaced all parts and was ready to call it quits. Your video was straight to the point and it solved my problem. I removed the main relay and re-soldered the internal circuit. Now it starts with no problem. Thanks, CKOTULA!!!

I just repaired the fuel pump relay on my 2004 Honda Pilot. It stalled on my way to work last week and wouldn't start for about 5 minutes. After I got it started, I was able to turn around and safely make it home. It would then intermittently stall while I let it idle it the driveway, then stalled and I couldn't get it started again. I traced the trouble to the Main-Fuel-Pump-Relay. Found a connector on the circuit board was not making a good connection. I re-soldered it and it has been fine ever since.
My 96 does this almost every morning but usually after the 3rd try it starts the car runs fine its just always morning startup thanks for the vid.
Just resoldered mine after stalling in traffic for the first time. I had been having hot no start issues for awhile but it always got it on 2nd or 3rd try and was fine. After the repair, that issue gone but my idle has improved as well, especially under load. The car seems more responsive and has improved up hill. The idle issues drive me crazy, and I had done just about everything you can imagine to improve them and everything slightly did but this seems to have been the main culprit the entire time including occasional misfires.
Omg I swear if this fixes my misfire I'll be so happy I've spent so much money tryna fix that issue and even took it to shops.. been dealing with it for 2+ years

yes those are needed because the fuel filter is dumb on the accords. plus you'll need some extensions a 17mm socket and a 10mm wrench. harbor freight sells a set 11mm-19mm for 10 bucks.

Your video has been very helpful. My 1996 accord has unfortunately been a victim of car theft with it being it stolen a third time this morning. I'm getting frustrated to the point of just selling it since it has a target on its back if I even get it back. Even though my mother is willing to let me have her car, I would still feel bad for leaving her without one. So after seeing this video, as much of a somewhat of hassle it may be, I would probably start doing this maybe in conjunction with gettting an alarm system.
thanks to you i found it i had d4 light flashing sometimes i had to wait for hours for it to start, i got the rely and seen corrosion and i just cleaned it, and it with a brush and it worked
Can you explain corrosion? I've done all I can find still no start. My d4 light has flashed forever
Good tip I had this issue on my 99 civic it would shut down after I hit a bump on the freeway my relay was on the right side had to remove the glove box to change it out.
Thanks man you just made life easy started up after just nicely I had been having this problem for a while with the weather and all. simple like you stated just had to fish for the relay but Its possible easy simple fixed and saved about 50 dollars been a couple months now and still holding up!! Soldering was quick n easy not hard anyone can do it!

Awesome video! Gonna try this. My 94 accord just got a motor swap along with a bunch of new parts under the hood (radiator, timing belt, o2, etc..) but it is dying out when I come to a stop. Check engine light is not on anymore which is a plus but can't figure this thing out 😕
check your distributor it may need to be replaced if not creating spark.

Melt old solder points make sure to have an extract tool to remove old solder than reconnect mini posts back with solder
I have changed the main relay have changed the fuel pump for some reason the fuel line side in my 94 Accord is not putting power to the pump ran a straight line to make sure the pump does work and it does am I missing something what do you think appreciate your time thank you for your video

its called a pgm-fi relay under the stering wheel lay upside down with a light youll find it about the time you get a huge cramp getting to it
Thank you for your video...it was awesome it spot on. I'll add my 2 cents that I also found extremely helpful. I'm a very big guy and getting up under there is was not an option. I could get under the steering wheel but couldn't see the relay. Here's what I did...
I took a mirror (6-8") and put it right next to the gas pedal. I then took my cell phone and turned on the flash light pointed toward the relay . Bamm...there it is and I could get my hand under there. Done it about 3 minutes.

Hi, Is this the same as the starter relay/main relay? My 1996 Honda odyssey was doing the click sound when turning the key but, would not start sometimes until the third try . Then one night tried to start it , no click, motor did not turn over. Bright lights on dashboard. Battery fully charged. Tight terminals. Then the starter came on only and stayed on even after taking out the key of the switch,so I had to disconnect the battery to make it stop.
Sounds like the starter hit a dead spot

from this vid it seems like you didn't need to unhook the battery while doing this... is that correct? i hate having to reset my stereo settings when i unhook my battery
i didnt unhook it and still worked but its safer to disconnect it
like your post.. we looked everywhere!! now will this cause the car to stall out periodically? I drive... it stalled out at a light.. wait a few minutes and it turns back on.. I already replaced the fuel pump ...I just don't want to just guess..

That was an excellent video and lesson. My 95 Accord will not start and the engine turns normally. Then, on any random day, it does start. I can drive it anywhere but if I turn the engine off, it more than likely won't strart until it feels like starting. Any ideas?
