    Did this yesterday…my car was doing the exact same thing - mine seemed to happen on really hot humid days - I live in Southeastern US now, but it didn’t do it when I was living in AZ the last 2 years (I.e. it’s more dry there)…I just bought the part on eBay for $23.22 shipped and it came with the gray box so I didn’t have to finangle it out of that gray housing. If anyone else buys the part online as I did, all you’ll have to do is push the whole unit up towards the ceiling to slide it off the metal piece, unhook wires, and switch them out. It will prevent you from having to go to the junk yard and might make the job slightly easier. But I spent $21.22 cents more than legendary PB Man 😂 ..thanks for the video man!

    One thing I'd like to point out about this video is that the relay for a 90-93 Accord is the same as the relay for a 94-97 Accord. So I would imagine that the relay from the 02 Accord should also work for a 90-93 Accord as well.

    1995 Honda Accord EX...I replaced the relay, and the fuel pump, no good.... The problem was the ECU or ECM. I bought it at Rockauto and it fixed my erratic fuel pump issues right away. Thank God the nightmare is over. easy fix. Learn how to replace the ECU/ECM on youtube, do a search.

      Thanks. I have a 1995 Honda Accord EX. Cranks, fires and dies. When it starts, it sputters to life. Sometimes runs fine, but now seems to be getting worse. I'm going to check this. Computer threw a 09 code which is supposed to require a new distributor according to a Honda mechanic friend. Replaced the distributor. No difference.

    What is the usual symptom of having a
    bad main relay aside from having no start?... Is the check engine light lit?...

    • @tongo117
      @tongo117  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      no check engine light.. my symptom was no start when interior of car was hot.. the soldered joints on the relay expand a little when heated and that can expose cracks in the solder.. which can lead to no start.. with mine, when then interior cooled off my car started and ran fine.. check out this video.. main relay issue starts around 5.25.. th-cam.com/video/6CMZ4g8n0FQ/w-d-xo.html

    I have this same problem with my 94 civic. I took the main relay out of my 98 civic and it still won't kick the fuel pump on. But I have learned that if you take a jumper wire to #5 and #7 hole in the connector the pump will engage, but it will be constantly engaged.

      I think it is related to the temp, hot and expanding the gap make it disconnected. When it cooled down, it connected again. Usually I cannot restart my car again when the engine is hot.

  • @thetawaves48

    do you encounter any problems with the gear shift locking while you are doing this?

    • @tongo117
      @tongo117  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. I did not have any problem with gear shift lever locking.. If that's what yours is doing you may have an issue with your ECU (engine control unit) or TCU (transmission control unit).. Both are located under carpet on the passenger side floorboard.. At least that's where they are on my 95 Accord.. A faulty ECU can also cause intermittent no start condition when interior of car is hot.. Soldered joints on the ECU can fail as they heat up and expand exposing cracks in the solder.. Just like on a faulty main relay switch..

    I have a question. I took the Main relay from my Honda accord 1998. and the box say this: relay rz-0158. I found an exactly piece online but with different number: rz-0159. Do you think this will matter? You think this will work?

      @@tongo117 thank goodness! My Honda Accord started doing like your video a few months back, I'd start it in evening or cloudy weather & it would start. Then, afew weeks later, it started all the time which was great! However, about 2 weeks ago, I pulled into driveway, was gone for ten minutes & car would not start at all, no turn over, no 'almost' starting but nothing, just a few click sounds. Neighbor tried to jump battery but nothing, battery pretty new. But yet, my lights, would come on, windows worked, turn signal, most of the times I've tried anyway. I'm desperate for help. I'm 55 years old, alone & lost my job cuz of car, now I have to walk to a crap job & I'm disabled! Obviously, I have no money for tow, dealership or garage at this point. Thanks to your video, I'm pretty sure it started with a bad main relay switch but now, it almost seems like something got disconnected or idk, it happened from one minute to another! I don't know where else to turn &trust me, I've asked around for a mechanic to look at my Honda and diagnos it but people are not reliable! It proves I have no one to help as I'm contacting you in GA, I'm in Southeastern Virginia! ! Sad hey? Just a really bad time right now. Any ideas sir?? Could the main relay finally have broke? By the way, when I price those, it's from $14 to $70+, so I don't know why that is?
      Thanks so much for replying! !

      I know this post was a few years ago, but I’m having the same issue with my ‘96 Accord EX, random no crank, no start. Made a short video on how I get it to start, takes me about 15-20 seconds to start it, after getting it to start trouble goes away for some time until it randomly shows up again, it doesn’t matter what weather or temperature. Haven’t gotten a chance to troubleshoot it yet. Here’s a link to how I get it to start. th-cam.com/video/bMJ8eT7x2nw/w-d-xo.html
