    Just found your channel. This is really great! I used to play so much Crash 2.

    Something small I noticed, Crash's run cycle is waaaaaay better in Warped than in the original. Way less stiff, and actually compensates for his massive head.

    I loved crash as a kid. He is still one of my favorite characters. Though I love the how the updated trilogy looks and understand the redesign of the way it plays. I would love to have a new adventure in that universe.

    What I really love about Crash's modern incarnations is the use of yellow as a color to off-set his fur. Something I didn't notice until looking at this video, but Twinsanity and N. Sane both use yellow in order to give Crash more pop, and in the case of N. Sane, round out his back - just watching how the yellow shrinks and expands when he's riding a bonus platform really gives perspective on just how expressive his lighting of all things is.
    Always admired the squash & stretch nature of Crash's animations, but this really has given some solid light on his design principals, and it's nice to hear a piece on Crash games post-CTR that isn't relentlessly making jokes about the days after Naughty Dog, departure. Great job!

      Thanks for your insight as always. I enjoy reading your comments. I didn't get to put them all in the video, but I just stared at Crash's different model art for each game and was fascinated by what each game did and why.

      I was so close to putting CocoCortex in the video, but it felt too distracting since I was supposed to be talking about Crash. XD

    Stumbled across this channel completely by accident while doing SEO research but I'm glad I did, this is an excellent video and I'm definitely going to follow the channel! Although I disagree a little on the modern Crash design, it still doesn't feel like it had the same level of art design that the iconic late 90's and early 2000's platformers all had. Quite a lot of his idle animations and emotion-poses are flatter than the original and look a bit off with the 'realism' angle of his new design. They also didn't put in enough work to how his character fits into many of the levels and the hub world and far too often his design has really horrible shadow effects blurring him and (the shadows on his eyes all the time were such a pain...). They had some of these issues with the bosses too, Tiny looks soft and cuddly in the remake with blunted teeth and human eyes and little things like the way they removed the shakey, dramatic movement of N.Tropy's backpack/engine thing - making him seem much less menacing and just a bit soft..
    But to be fair it is still miles better than the Radical version of Crash haha!

      Thank you so much for watching! Also, I am totally open to different opinions! After all, game analysis essays are really just my own opinion piece. I know the new designs were not quite right for everyone, but it is at least exciting to see that Crash is back!

      @@thegirlwiththecontroller1164 Yes! And there's rumours of a new Crash game later this year.. It's great that the franchise is back, let's just hope they make it count! :)

    "Crash's world, while N-SANELY more detailed" - I see what you did there.
    Thanks for another fantastic video, these can't come soon enough! I love your focus and love for 3D Platformers, something most of my friends lack in their interest.
    Really interesting history that I didn't know about, so well done on your research! I also think you have a really good control over your sound; your voiceover isn't blocked out by background music, but I can still hear the music well enough to get that zesty energy!
    KEEP IT UP! :D
    Oh and my favorite Crash game is the remake; it's the only one I've played, though I did briefly dip into the original. I loved the remake, though I only beat the first of the three games cause I kind of grew tired of it. It tends to emulate 2D Platformers more than 3D ones, as it doesn't have worlds to go through, just linear stages. Which is fun, just not my kinda fun. But the first game is so hard, that I wanted to beat it, and did!

    • @thegirlwiththecontroller1164
      @thegirlwiththecontroller1164  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I prefer my 3D Platformers being more open as well, but I was surprised how addicted I got to the NSane Trilogy, particularly Warped. I really loved the variety of levels in it. I still need to go back and beat 1 and 2 though. XD

    • @loganswiftable
      @loganswiftable 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was told that 1 is really more of an endurance round, everything in it is pretty tough.
      I agree with you, I love variety and to be honest, 1 doesn't have that much variety. But just like Dark Souls or any other game with famed difficulty, you may feel a need to beat it so you can brag to your friends :D

    Man, I wish Naughty Dog would take Crash over once again, but they got way to dramatic and serious for that nowadays. Crash Team Racing is one of my favorite games of all time, that I play with friends regularly to this day. Another thing of note - Crash actually had a slightly different design for Japanese and for western markets. All that attitude and swagger was considered as too rude and aggressive in Japan, so his postures and facial expressions and such were toned down a bit. Search for Crash Bandicoot and "Japan vs US" or something to see comparisons, it's quite fascinating.

    Great video, that's a lot of history to cover and edit! I played so much Crash 2 as a kid, so it definitely holds a special place in my nerdy heart, but I do appreciate that with the remaster, I finally had the skill to actually beat Crash 1(with the help of the new saving mechanics, haha). The PS1 version was brutal!

      Warped is my favorite of the trilogy. I never got to play CTR as a kid, so I would love a remastered version! I love Mario Kart, so I'm sure it'd be up my alley. haha.

      CTTR was great too, no doubt.
      But CTR brings so much memories... playing split-screen with my friends, or even solo, CTR was just amazing.

    Great video...the N-Sane remake is a good example of how to revive a game using nostalgia, while still improving on the original product...
    Crash's history reminds me of Sonic's, in the way that devs destroyed the character while trying to modernize it...
    Also, about that, I suggest you check Sonic Mania, and how it saved Sonic from those crazy dudes that thought he should talk and have a human girlfriend...Yikes!

    • @thegirlwiththecontroller1164
      @thegirlwiththecontroller1164  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sonic Mania is awesome. I didn't really grow up with Sonic during his golden age as my family was more Nintendo, so I'd want to be really careful and do my research/play those games before tackling a video on it in order to convey things properly. But I was thinking about him during this video!

    N sane crash is still my favourite tho i do think the model could have made some touches to look better
    As for the world I think it could have used simpler textures but not the solid colours like crash 4 did and i think the game could have used vibrant colours rather then the nore desaturated colours

      There's a lot of other "Mascot games" that popped up after crash and spyro. I haven't played Tiny Tank myself in almost 20 years but from what I remember, it wasn't bad.
