I used to work at St. Vincent; it's crazy to see the evolution of Cleveland's original downtown hospital from the 1860s to today. Unfortunately it's a shell of what it used to be, but I still feel nostalgic when I see the sign while driving on I-90 East.
Most people don't know but the president at the time of its closing was run by a 'former' Cleveland Clinic VP, who used to be the president of Fairview Hospital. She was promoted and went to Abu Dhabi. Then she came back. Then all of a sudden she was at St. Vincent. Not for very long until it closed. I have my suspicions. I believe her job was to get that place shut down.
Great video! I especially liked the railroad-related infrastructure you featured. ;) Not sure if you saw but the Greyhound Bus Terminal's future is in jeopardy, along with the Eagle Avenue lift bridge.

You forgot the old Cleveland Arena near 30th and Euclid. Built in the 1920s and demolished in 1977. First home of the Cavs, old NHL team the Barrons, and the original rock n roll concert put on by Allan Freed. Today it's the Cleveland area headquarters of the Red Cross.
*Barons. I remember Fred Glover. No goalie masks to speak of. Many events were held at Cleveland Arena. Local stock car buffs may remember favorite drivers in midget cars off season.
When I was a kid we lived right across the street from league park. I can remember playing on what was left of the field. good to see they restored it.
The cleveland historic are a great research comparison as well. Such as the East Mount Zion Baptist Church, the last historic church in the middle of The Cleveland Clinic Campus!
That bridge at 0:57 is not the same one in the new pic. I worked on that bridge for yrs. It is the republic steel company bridge now called Cleveland cliffs steel company. You can see the Clark Avenue bridge behind it, which was turn down in 1978. From that tower I raised that bridge and also controlled electric switching for the railroad tracks.

Smug Angelenos, New Yorkers and Miamians think their cities are so great but Buffalonians and Detroiters are proud people and should be. I can only imagine Clevelanders are too. The rust belt will bounce back. I am 54 so can remember the Bernie Kosar and Andre Thornton eras.....Keep up the good work at your site....

I don't believe they ever reopened that Clark Ave Bridge . Cleveland is my home town moved out 45 yrs ago and never looked back .1970 West Technical High Grad.Lots of good memories of the City.

Looks exactly like Detroit brother!!! I was there in June of this year at least 100 plus people burning out and shooting fully automatic rifles for 2 plus hours no police. So don't tell me it's a great place don't tell me hey eete not Detroit you must live way out in the suburbs.
