This finally makes sense. No one has been able to properly explain in physiological terms what a chest or head voice is. Your approach is exactly what is used in Indian classical music. The smile metaphor is excellent.
That's what we really need! I record myself all the times while playing guitar and singing, and by doing so I have learned to basically adapt my singing to the "thought" of what I would like to hear. I don't know if that makes sense, but Mark, as usual, gave the best explanation for it. Keep'em coming Mark!!! Thanks for the shared knowledge.
Thank you mark! You're such an amazing teacher, thank you for sharing your invaluable experience and knowledge! After watching your videos it became easier for me to overcome many of my issues in singing
Great video Mark! I love exploring this “Mixed up zone” and finding my full range. Just recorded a new cover and completely threw out all the labels. I just sang the song the way I wanted it to sound! My classical teacher suggested I stay in the mixed and not drop to far down, and it would be easier to reach way up there when needed. That seemed to help. Thanks and Mark! :)
Oops - if you still have questions after watching this then I didn't do a good enough job explaining! Watch this video and hopefully things will become clearer: th-cam.com/video/lILdT0Y8HxI/w-d-xo.html
I listen to a song many times before I attempt to sing it so I have a clear imagination of the sound that I want to produce but I can't when I try to "sing in falsetto" any tips please, thank you
My suggestion is to stop telling your body what to do (sing in falsetto) and be more playful with your voice. Think how different characters would sound singing - an old women, a little martian, an opera diva, etc. You are unconsciously blocking the behavior when you think "falsetto" like I do with my legs when I think "split". So instead trick yourself by entering the sound a different way.
Dear Mark, When we whistle using our lips... like a countryman... what register is it ? Chest Voice, Head Voice, Or Whistle Register ? What is the difference between whistling and whistle register ?
Whistling with your lips is not a vocal register because it does not involve your larynx at all. We whistle by creating resistance with our lips to make the sound and slide the tongue back and forth to change the pitch. Whistle register is produced by the vocal folds creating the same circumstance in the larynx - but the pitch is changed by increasing or decreasing air pressure.
hello mark i'm following you since 2016 and i found your videos really helpful for me, please do a video about smoking and singing, i quit smoking about 2 years ago, but i still would like to know from you if it is that harmful to smoke while you're a singer, and thank you in advance
It absolutely exists! It's on a fantastic album from one of my students. I recommend the whole album - but Possibilities is track 9: itunes.apple.com/us/album/believe/id4234109
Thank you again Mark. I love how you changed my approach to register changes. Your presence and teaching style are both quite powerful. Thanks
Glad to help out, Neil!

That's great Patrick! More than just pitches - singing is communicating. The bigger the library of sounds then more detail we are able to express.
