Nice work Nick. And I really love the message at the end. It’s not about the image, but instead, the journey to get the image. That’s where the memories are. Beautiful!
Exactly!
I think this is why in person art events are the key to the everyday photographer to sell prints. Unless you have a social media presence then you need to actually talk to the person in person to convert the story. That’s what makes the image special and converts to sales
You know there is something special coming when Nick Page shows up on the youtube feed. Nice ❄️🥶👌
The editing on this was ridiculous! Such great storytelling with all of your drone and other footage (and the amount of work you put into it didn't go unnoticed)!
Nick, I have to say, I am always impressed with the efforts you must go to to get the various camera angles for your footage. Whether it's the multiple shots and angles while cooking and camp prepping, or all the drone shots while driving, I'm impressed with your commitment to put together an engaging video.
Among the best~ And we are finally out of the arctic blast...for now 🙃😄 -36 without wind chill is just stupid..😂
As I have gotten older I have learned the journey is often more fulfilling than the destination and often we fail to appreciate it.
Right on. As the old Harry Chapin song "Greyhound" states: " It's the goin, not the gettin there that's good"
You've done an amazing job with this, and your last, video in capturing the sheer joy of being out in nature; enjoying the wilderness, taking it all in.
Brilliant video. You can almost feel the biting cold, but at the same time you wish you were there too! Love the end where you just pull over, throw the camera on a tripod and snap a shot of the river which most of us would be proud to hang on the wall...!
Nick - Always a good day when I see you've made a video. Hope your drone is OK!
Like this format, Nick! Quiet, contemplative, and photogenic! Had to laugh at your fire starting technique! It's totally foolproof! Well done!
Brrrrrr...Very nice. I think you need a Nick Page cooking channel, yum. I half-expected some "Cougar-cam" video footage from about 6-inches off the ground, especially during the steak prep. As you shoveled snow, I had a flash-back to the winter trip you and the guys had in Canada where most of you were sitting in shorts on beach chairs sipping martinis on a frozen lake while Heaton swept up the snow. As you say, fun things to look back on!
Hi Nick, I'm grateful for the opportunity to join you on this journey. Your deep love on photography is incredibly motivating. Today, I had the chance to visit a local woodland blanketed in snow, an experience enriched by your influence. Thanks again for allowing us to accompany you on your adventure.
This was perhaps the funnest winter camping I've ever done from the comfort of my warm home! Thanks for taking us along.
Was just thinking "what great drone footage" when... SPLAT! 😂And if I ever come to the US and go camping, I want to go with you... you know how to cook a PROPER meal! None of those dehydrated rations muck.
And i agree with you more and more ... it's about the being out there, not just the photos. Good to see you back Nick!
I hit thumbs up before evening watching it......because well, you know, it's Nick Page. it's always a quality watch.
Come for the photography, stay for the GEAR! That camping setup is awesome! Thanks for sharing!
First camera spotted at 14:20 haha
Very impressive camping gear and the scenery is beautiful! Thanks for sharing your adventure with us Nick!
No drones were harmed, we hope, in the making of this video. Nick, that's my kind of camping. Love how you laid out your fire. I was expecting a small shower of magnesium sparks to ignite the kindling, but no. Bring on the blowtorch. Who wants to f**k around with magnesium when it's 0 degrees, right? And a diesel heater for the tent! Seriously, really enjoyed the video and your philosophy on making memories. I'm about a third of the way closer to that rocking chair as you are and appreciate the sentiment.
"I'm about a third of the way closer to that rocking chair as you are and appreciate the sentiment." I am in the same boat my friend. I live vicariously through Nick the life of photographer on the road! I have a small sedan, so I cannot risk going into harsh weather. I do occasional forays into Zion, Grand Canyon and other spots close to Vegas in good weather.
😁👍@@bizpixvegas7651
Nick, thank you for having taken us on board for this adventure. I love your authenticity and love for nature. Never mind this time for missing the award winning photo. But following you along on this amazing adventure more than makes up for it. I live in a country where there is no snow and this looks like a dream to me. Keep up your good work. You are amazing.
Nick be proud of those photos mate and for those exact reasons you spelled out at the end. That’s your home land and it is beautiful in its own way. Feel proud that you are such a skilled photographer that you are able to capture that area like no other. Oh what great memories they will be. Thanks for sharing. Great inspirational content. Love the channel. 🥶
Very enjoyable Pal, great pace and I even felt the cold while on my couch :)
The amount of relaxation I have experienced in 16 minutes and 13 seconds is hard to explain without writing paragraphs. Thank you, Nick, for this absolutely amazing video!
This whole video made me smile. The fire, the beer, the steak….
Great work brother, really enjoyed the video! Nice Kuiu pants. You might like the western mountaineering flash down pants. They are not too puffy so you can wear them under other pants or by themselves. Add so much warmth. Changed my life in the cold! Keep crushing it.
yeah I love those pants, they are cozy like sweat pants but warm and rugged! I hope your well dude!
Really informative and helpful video. Thanks 🎉
Stay save. Enjoy Life. 🫶
Oh SH#* Nick did a VLOG. Brother I know your position on VLOGS, I wish you'd do alot more. Throughly enjoy your work, and you VLOGS I for one would love tonsee more dude. You are spot on about the memories!! Doesn't hurt you're a fellow Washingtonian. Be safe in the freeze brotha and keep it going
Sub-zero camping?! Nick, you must have had an argument with the Missus! 🙂 Full credit for the driving/drone flying combo, I hope it survived the bush whack. Stay safe! [English humour]
Love this! Simply experiencing, but yet able to capture it without it hindering the memory! Can’t imagine what kind of work went into this, getting all the angles and flying the drone. Hope that didn’t take away too much from the experience but I thank you for sharing it.
Wow. Ya put tears in my eyes with this one Nick. I live in the Blue Mountains of eastern Oregon about 200 miles south of you (John Day). I have the same reverence for my end of the mountains as you do for yours, and at 69 years of age that rocking chair on the porch is not to far off! I love your campfire technique (gotta get me a butane flamethrower!). And yes - today it’s the adventure, not the trophy (although that’s still the idea) that drives me to do what we as landscape photographers do (and if the rest of the world thinks we’re crazy, at least the cougars understand). Thank you PS: the stream shot is no slouch!! Kudos)
Great video Nick! Photography and the outdoors go hand in hand with me. It brought back memories of several X-country snow camping trips in the Oregon Cascades I've had over the years, one hunkered down in a blizzard at Crater Lake for 4 days! I enjoyed your adventure and look forward to more of them and of course your wonderful photography.
Love this, Nick. Being out in it, is my idea of paradise. Beautiful surroundings, a cozy fire, and nothing but you n nature. It's my church. My happy place. Thank you sir. Appreciate you and your sharing of this experience. I can totally relate 😊
Sound track, drone footage and photos all are phenomenal Nick! I'm surprised that mountain lion didn't stop by for dinner. That steak had me hungry man. -20C Damn 🥶 🇮🇪☘️
Beautifully shot, Nick - capturing the spirit of relaxed solo adventure perfectly. Thank you for putting this together - your videos provide a source of inspiration for my own nighttime adventure journals. I always look forward to them.
A great ZEN moment for Nick. The drone 'run in to the tree' shot, was awesome. One of the best i have ever seen🤪. I guess at your level, the river shot was so-so, i would be be proud at myself😉. Thnx Nick.
I'm one of those older, gray guys but I'm still fortunate enough to hike the many trails in the local L.A. mountains (yes, there are hundreds of miles of hiking/backpacking trails within an hour, or less, from the L.A. metropolis). My camera *always* comes with me but I find that more and more often it stays in the bag as I enjoy the surroundings, no longer "needing" to get _that_ photograph.
Far too much work setting up and tearing down all that equipment by oneself. I used to winter camp in northern Wisconsin alot. Didn't have all the tech, but did have friends to share the effort. Unfortunately I wasn't into photography back then. We're just coming out ofva week ofvsub zero temps after a big snowstorm, so this video feels real!
Awsome as usual.
This is awesome! I live near Rocky Mountain National Park, and love winter camping there. Your photography is amazing by the way!
Love these simple and relaxing videos Nick! You can get an adapter for the green propane canisters to use for the jetboil in cold temps, the boiling point of propane is -43F much lower than the jetboil fuel canisters with isobutane (10F)
Stated before. Big Man, in a big car, in a Big country.. perfect equilibrium. Good stuff fella. See the drone survived its journey.
Great video and imagery Nick! You've got quite the camp set up! You seemed prepared for anything. Hope you are staying well. All the best!
That intro gave goosebumps. Great video and great message.
Loving the style of your latest videos. Great intimate mood that feels more personal. Side note, almost dropped my phone laughing when the drone hit the tree branches.
When I'm old and grey and in my rocking chair I won't be looking back but still looking forward to the mother of all trips through death's door into eternal life. Then I will see all those mysteries about life, about what makes us sad and happy and full of joy and full of sorrow come to fruition; and our joy will be complete. Great video. Your set up is unbelievable.
Man you make cooking a feast in super cold temps look easy. It ain’t. This is a great little overland vid even without the photography emphasis. Nice work. Thanks for sharing. And way to get out there in the big chill!!
Wait... what... you're just like the rest of us? 😂 Awesome video as always Nick... now I want... no need to go camping in the winter!
As I'm watching the intro, I 'm saying to myself...wow, that's some really great drone work...then it crashes into the tree....LMAO.
Really enjoying this blend of peaceful camping and photography. Nice work and thanks!
Nick, great work and a great message.... I feel that same about the Wasatch Range in Utah. I'm looking forward to your next adventure!
I learned the hard way about keeping the fuel warm when I tried to make coffee one sub-freezing morning while camping. I don't think I ever got water to boil.
What you said about the experiences being more important than the other things is true. I long ago decided to quit chasing expensive gear and just buy myself a couple of nice trips each year.
Nick, that was great. While I love your photography, I really dig watching you getting out....this was primo! You always have had great rigs, but despite the temperature freezing some of your gear, you are the man when it comes to an awesome set up with your rig. So cool. Inspirational as usual.
I had to stop at 1:11 into the vid. Seriously fan-effing-tastic B roll man. Love it! ... Ok, back to watch.
That was epic!
What an experience, I'd love to be able to explore a beautiful snow covered landscape like that. Sadly it doesn't get cold enough for that here in Australia.
I'll bet that the smell of that steak brought the attention of every cougar, bear, wolf, lynx, and bobcat for miles around. Be thankful you didn't have trail cams stationed about.
I love these camping videos you do Nick! The videography is amazing, but it's the adventure that I truly love seeing.
I truly enjoyed this video. At 70 years of age, I have a lot of memories and keep trying to make more. One was when I encountered an outdoor writer camping in the National Forest here. He had built a warming fire under his canopy. Too much under the canopy and the canopy had melted by the time I approached. When I go out, I dress for the weather so if I step out of my truck I can stay warm. I also keep the heat off so if I shoot from inside the truck the camera is acclimated for the cold and no warm air is distorting focus.
That’s a cracking film Nick, I can see why in the US you fight so hard and value your freedoms so much, here in the UK we have zero wilderness, every inch of land is owned by someone😡 You are obviously an expert at camping out in the wilderness, you have all the gadgets and toys! Enjoy the images you created too, wonderful scenes 😀
I hope 2024 is a fantastic year for you, all the best, cheers 👏😀👍🍺
Seeing a new Video on your channel always makes me happy. Also enjoyed the slow camping content. I guess I were to do the same if I was able to go snow camping like that! It's as you say not always about the images for us photographers. Happy to see you are out and about and sharing it with us!
🙌🏼 man I had to go put a jacket on just watching you. 🥶🥶
Another superb video. Love how organised you are with all of your camping gear. Making memories on an adventure like this is the best thing. Thanks for sharing with us.
To get the fine photos, you must be willing to make the investment. Also, do it while you can. As you point out, Nick, these will be fond and appreciated memories down the road, when the day comes, as it will, that you can no longer get out. Good video. I had to put on an extra sweater just watching this one. Cheers.
Such a great video, with you driving from a bird perspective and also preparing your Camp site with dinner etc. Btw. the image at 14:35 is beautiful, with is cold and warm glow at the mountain top. 👍
Awesome video. Great story telling. Great editing. Good photos. Thanks for sharing.
Great video as always Nick. Thank you for sharing! I have been missing your podcast, really hope you get some time in the near future to release another episode!
No amazing images? I beg to differ.
14:30 gorgeous ; 14:40 with no one on the bridge, with that light, as a watercolor…Beautiful.
Great story vid with stuff that brings back the boy scout in me. I can relate to all you say in this one all that is missing for me was the snow in my camping adventures. Transpose dust and heat ( and that I was a lot younger when that all happened) and it becomes a me too . Don't have heaters for tents here like you and I wonder how your camera gear survived the cold (maybe a vid in that for you) as I do travel a bit to colder climates and am interested in your approach to it all . Another winner. Cheers from down under... Alan
Nice set up you have there. I used to be jealous of your photography gear but now im jealous of your overland rig!!! Jerk…lol
Nice Video! Thank you so much for these professional insights! Greetings from Germany.
Amazing memories ... absolutely Nick. Excellent video.
Live this type of video. And love how you modded your truck to be your optimal, mobile camper. Keep them coming!
A couple of thoughts, I loved the images even if you were not impressed. Maybe becasue of my age, the memories I would have come away with from this trip are the frostbite on my toes and fingers. Another nice video.
I just bought a fireside pit! Can't wait to try it this weekend! Awesome video as always Nick!
Beautiful video Nick. Great vibes watching this with my morning coffee
With all them contraptions ya hooked up kinda expected ya to launch into outer space. The journey is where it’s at. Especially with science now able to produce better images than us
Stunning as always, good job and yeah I second what people have said here, it's all about the journey and the experience.
Great video - wonderful images👍👍 -22 C !!! I'd be cying to go home😄😄
i just love when you take us with on these mountain trips! i spend a good bit of time in the mountains during the fall but being from wisconsin its these winter months that leave me yearning for the mountains. So thanks for letting me come along. You say you didnt get any shots your proud of but i loved them all. Some day Nick, I hope I can sit next to you buy a fire in the mountains and just enjoy the conversations.
Quite the setup for your intrepid sub-zero camp out! I’m with you on the Lawry’s, too! Love that stuff.
Very nice. I enjoyed the camping and the cold. And thanks for your understanding why you were there in the first place.
You always cook good meals, ever considered making a photographer's cook book :D
Thanks Nick! Love that area and you are so right, beautiful place! Love your set up!
Awesome adventure as usual Nick. Loved it. Yes, I liked the message at the end also. You are absolutely correct.
Great video as always. Your camping setup is so awesome to see in action. The last set of images you shared were great too. Might not have been ones you were proud of, but they were still stunning.
I sure would be proud of all those images! Sitting here in rainy s Florida wanting to be where you are! Love as always your work!
Throughly enjoyed this video. I know you had a blast. Thanks for sharing.
Nicky P, again with a lot of ASMR! Great video, man! Great work! :)
Great video. PNW has a lot of beauty. We need to explore down that way some more. Spend all our time out in the Idaho Mountains.
Beautiful video and statements Nick! A few great shots too, you are the master of understatement! Thanks!
This is great Nick. Love the silent/ASMR style of this. Thanks man.
Love these types of videos! Gorgeous landscape & wildlife.
You should watch where you're driving, you almost killed that drone.
Your comment at the end is sooo true. I’m very impressed with your effort. You da Man, Nick
Very nice relaxing adventure! My kind of trip. Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful video! I am old and gray, and I can see that rocking chair not far down the road, but I am resisting it in order to get out and build more of those memories.
Great work! I love winter camping. Did you encounter any wildlife to make the trip exceptionally memorable? My one encounter was in Bruce National Park in Ontario, where Georgian Bay and Lake Huron meet. It was December 1st. While sleeping in my tent, a bear sat on me. That is a memory I will never forget.
Seen a bobcat was pretty big deal. They are pretty elusive.
It's very therapeutic watching this on my tablet, sitting up in bed 🤣📷👍
Very jealous Nick, and as you say in the distant future your mind can travel back and relive.
I loved this, Nick. It is a beautiful video. The snow, the trees, the camp, the deer, and the lovely quiet way you have, is very appealing. Did you sleep well, I wonder? Paw prints through your camp spot when you arrived. I wouldn't have got a wink.
my biggest barrier to sleep was worrying that the heater was going to kill my leisure battery over night and stop... if my heater stopped working, the trip was over!
Thanks for a great video. Also, I agree with your comments re: memories.
That was a surprise Nick seeing you back on the channel? Definitely you normally have exciting adventures and beautiful images and hopefully there will be more of it on the way. I realized you went back to Canon, Sony isn't anymore interesting? have a good winter season. Cheers.
I’ve been back shooting Canon for about a year now, I enjoy the ergonomics and durability far more than Sony, Sony definitely has the better sensor, I think, but I just enjoy using the Canon more
Quite simply beautiful Nick, love the Deer with the antlers shot 🦌👌
What a great storytelling video and like all the others I really appreciate the time and effort to capture the footage. Coming from Australia one forgets the downside of all that snow despite its beauty, shovelling, I'm looking at you. I was impressed with your fire making skills, using tinder rather than artificial firelighters, that is, until you brought out the blow torch. 😯 The sound of things moving on the icy snow reminded me of the torture scene in "The Pink Panther Strikes Back". Nails on the blackboard.
Thanks for taking us on that great journey and you are correct, in that it is the experiences one remembers. Plus the photos weren't too bad either.🤢
Sometimes when it is that cold.. it turns into a " just get the damn thing lit" kinda situation haha.. I will bust out the magnesium rod when its warmer haha
