I did this hike on October 10, 2022. Temperatures were great and no bugs. Minnesota is more humid than I expected it to be. The hike was nice although it felt like the hike down was longer than the hike up. On this trip I also stopped at Iowa, Wisconsin, and Missouri highpoints. I am now at 14 highpoints completed.
Congratulations! What I remember most about the Eagle Mountain hike was a lot of tree roots to have to negotiate through at times. Easy to step wrong and sprain an ankle. Also I agree, the return leg on this hike does seem longer than the hike out.
Thanks for the overview. I plan on being there first week of July. I will bring the repellant, clothes treated with permethrin, and my bug net! Can't wait!
Ok, my brother and I finished our hike to this highpoint yesterday. If you go, depending on time of year, be prepared for bugs. They were not too bad, but we used a lot of DEET and headnets, which was just great. The terrain is very rocky for most of the trail, with the steeper portions being the last third. As you saw in this video, there are also wet areas that have boardwalks that were in pretty good shape overall. We took 2 1/2 hours to the summit and 2 hours back. Bring water and snacks for your group and as he said here, be prepared to be in the wilderness. We had a great but tiring day, with good weather and great views. Glad I did it! Just for info I am 56 years old.
Nice to see the trail and peak in the sunshine! We were there June 15, 2018. It was rainy, foggy and overwrought with mosquitoes! You make nice, informative videos. Thanks!
Thank you Barbara! The first time I visited a few years early all the rain had flooded the trails, at points water up to our knees. It was epic. One universal constant though was the ever-present mosquitoes.
Wow, looks beautiful. Need to take a trip soon. Live in South Florida, sometimes you need a break from beaches and swamp. Although I did ascend to the top of a small hill the other day. Felt like it was at least 10-15 feet above sea level. Love the videos.
We just visited Britton Hill the other day on our journey home from our beach vacation in PCB. I'd recommend the northwoods to anyone, (I grew up there) particularly in the latter summer, early autumn. It's a bit of a sportsman's / outdoors paradise.
This was my second time visiting this highpoint. I'm almost finished with all the "repeats." The first time was a few years prior and the trails were all flooded out. Made for an epic hike. It's definitely worth getting up there.
There is a designated trail to the highpoint, but if there ever was a place where you could portage and paddle to a highpoint this would probably be the place. If you get up there to paddle also consider going across the border into the Quetico Wilderness in Ontario.
Thanks for sharing sir! Looks like another great area to hike up and explore! Love all the fun facts you throw in there as well. Funny how many mountains can be named the same in the same state! :) Have a great week, looking forward to the next to one - Shane
Hopefully the forest roads are plowed to get to the trailhead. That will be your first concern. Once there it should be relatively straightforward on cross country skis or snowshoes but it will be a bit of a work out.
I climbed to the top of the tallest tree at the peak so can claim I’ve been to the highest point in all of Minnesota. Just got back from the Rocky Mountains and surprised the trails there were less rugged and challenging than the Superior hiking trail. Some of the hardest hiking anywhere is along the Sawtooths. This particular hike is not too hard though.
You seriously need to watch out for mountain lions, Lynx, and black bears. I’ve encountered them on the Superior hiking trail. Luckily I wasn’t attacked. I carry a spear and big knife now just in case.

Congratulations on a successful summit and thanks taking the time to share your experience! Cheers!
That is some amazing scenery! Visiting the MN arrowhead is now on my bucket list😀
It’s a beautiful area and while this hike is a good one there are some jaw dropping places up there as well.

We hiked in the evening and watched the Aurora!
That sounds amazing! Seeing the auroras are one of the things I miss most about living in the Northwoods.
Hiked this in May 2021....no bugs, still somewhat cold. I remember it being 7.0 miles roundtrip though.

Lol. I remember biking in Florida and the highest peaks were the bridge overpasses.
Really nice video and information you provided. Nice work.
Thank you!
Well done!
Thank you!
Great video, great getting another high point under your belt! I want to make it to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area!

I wasn't sure if you could hike there or had to take a canoe it, guess it is accessible by land!

Shane, when you road trip up to this area you'll want to spend some time exploring the area. A lot of cool history and scenery. Cheers!
Nice video and my area elevation is 810 feet in Shakopee Minnesota
Nicely done. Any thought to level of difficulty in late December?

Can’t wait to snag that one- looks like such a lovely hike- although I have heard it’s buggy!! But then again I guess a lot of them are! 😂
The best time to do this highpoint is between mid-September to mid-October when you get the full autumn foliage. Also bugs will be at a minimum.
million years ago, my horse's patoot!
Another great adventure. I have to ask - is that your doggie we saw? He/She is adorable. Our dogs love to hike with us when it is allowed.
Not my doggo, but a fellow hiker who was just out of frame. That pup was a sweetheart though!

Mount Whitney (California) sounds like quite a challenge
0:50 Did you say one Million, or one Billion?
One Billion. The geology for some of the rock in that area is incredibly ancient.
@@RooftopsofAmerica that's fucking crazy
@@jollygrapefruit786 It really is, the whole Mid Continent Rift is pretty wild.
Did you found wolves on that trail?
On this hike just sand flies and mosquitoes. Wolves will avoid humans if they can.
You seriously need to watch out for mountain lions, Lynx, and black bears. I’ve encountered them on the Superior hiking trail. Luckily I wasn’t attacked. I carry a spear and big knife now just in case.
Dog was straight 🅱️oolin in the forrest
That dog was having a good day out there.
I have a vacation at the end of July, that area is probably swarming with insects by then.
At that point the black flies will be pretty much gone, but there will still be a decent mosquito presence. Bring bug repellent!
Hilarious. My driveway starts at 2100
