Some of these are so advanced they even have Cache, Pipelined threads, and specialized GPU's! I also make my own redstone computers, and I'm still learning these advanced technologies.

it's good to note that coding projects like these can actually help a person's resume. it might look like it's just about trying to find a tall plant, but it also shows off their skills in coding, problem visualization, algebra, and data manipulation.
I remember driving people nuts in 1.2.8 Beta living in a secret base in Anthrox, and building a 36 block high cactus. People legit made pilgrimages from across the server to visit the "always growing cactus"

Well in theory if the average point in the desert is y=65, then the tallest possible cacti would be between 190 and 200 blocks tall depending on the depth of the surface
It should actually be possible to get a cactus higher than 255 blocks, a chunk is 16 x 16, thats 256 blocks not including height, so highest possible is 768 which is VERY rare, however, you'd find a ton of cactus falling down from the sky once you load the chunk. Or above y 256, they just wouldn't spawn

@@zeguyy you do realise that for encrypted data to be useful, you need to decrypt it, if it needs to be undecryptable then you need to hash it. So using programs to try to find hashes is suspicious, but decryption goes along with encryption

yeah, nah. all mathematicians do is shit like this. Like Fermat's Last Theorem. took hundreds of years to solve/prove and it doesn't really have much application other than advancing our knowledge of math itself. Or the 4 colour Theorem, just says no more than 4 colours is needed to colour in a map so that a colour does not border itself. It's nice to know but doesn't really do much of anything.
@@ShrtStfflp I'm fairly certain that 99% of the math we use today was made up by some bored mathematician trying to do interesting stuff. Practically no math was made for a practical use. Same with many scientific discoveries. Finding the biggest cactus might be something dumb and inconsequential, but the methods created to do such a task may have monumental affects on the future of seed-finding, and potentially other types of coding.
This has to be my favorite sort of thing ever. Technically minded people working together and finding personal value in something so "stupid". It's heartwarming and awesome.

I LOVE THIS i find projects like this exceptionally beautiful and so so human just. pure passion and the need to know bringing communities together to achieve incredible things and answer every question that can be asked and explore it for the sake of exploration itself and through it find if we CAN. the excitement when counting the cactus genuinely moved me; i love gaming and the small passionate communities in it SO much, thank you for bringing my attention to this!!
