There's probably code reasons why it can't get anywhere near this, but very naively, theoretically, since each chunk can generate up to 10 cacti, and each cactus can be up to 3 blocks tall, and up to 4 chunks could bleed into each other, there could be a natural cactus somewhere out there in the Minecraft multiverse that's 120 blocks tall. Even though that's probably way off, I am interested in what the current theoretical upper bound for Big Cactus is.
Theoretically, a Cactus could commit a Nomad and travel from a chunk to a different one due to terrain always cock-blocking it, adding to the cactus being potentially 255 tall
I don't think so, if that were the case then there'd always be an average of 10 cacti per chunk, but it seems like if the second attempt fails, it gives up.@@Therevengeforget
from what i understood from the code, each cactus also tries to generate 10 times before giving up, but it can choose air blocks to try to generate in because the code doesn't know what the terrain looks like until it checks if a block is valid for a cactus. I didn't illustrate that in my video for the sake of simplicity though so I can see the confusion
Theoretically, if you would use a _Quantum Computer_ It would take you less than a femtosecond to find the exact same seed, coordinates, and facing direction.
@@skmgeek Well that would only be possible in a femtosecond if we have an extremely fast and power Quantum Computer. It will also be have to be directly connected to a huge source of power, like a power plant, to work in such speeds.
I'm so upset your description of the difference between GPUs and CPUs makes so much more sense than how my professor in my research lab could ever explain to me
Whenever Minecraft seeds are mentioned I can’t help but think of the headcanon that all Minecraft seeds take place in a single, absolutely unfathomably sized world, just in different locations.
Accourding to this, a 120 block tall cactus is possible theoretically if 4 groups of 10 3 block tall cactuses combined in one corner, but it would be near impossible.
the gpu vs cpu issue here would have easily been solved by the architecture of the Cell processor, since it's built similarly: a single PPU and 8 SPUs that can all work in parallel. it's hard to program for. but the workload capacity is insane. i wish the architecture hadn't been abandoned.

They say it is just a videogame, but those people are practicing and manifestic their dedication, engineering, forensic and analytical skills, which may be extremely useful for any employer willing to employ a bunch of nerds for some real-world project.
Minecraft is probably the best at being a game which, somehow, functions even though almost every part of it's programming is functionally limitless. Cacti have a range they're SUPPOSED to spawn, sure, but if the code dictates that it CAN spawn over that then the real sandbox becomes "but how much tho?"
8:00 for those that wants to know more the "seed" in this case, is the seed of java's Random Number Generator. Minecraft Java edition is... made in Java. and Java's RNG is actually a pseudo RNG, so it's not truly random, you can get back the same "random" numbers by setting the seed of the RNG, just like how you can get back the same world by setting the world seed. The day aliens find out that we made a supercomputer for a block game is the day they leave us alone
Who needs super computers to send rockets into space when you can find the biggest cactus ever.
@@HellCastleYT So... assuming a cactus travels 3 blocks per fail, it can travel 2 blocks short of 2 entire chunks.
Theoretically, if you would use a _Quantum Computer_ It would take you less than a femtosecond to find the exact same seed, coordinates, and facing direction.
🤓 *phemptosecond
(also it would definitely take magnitudes longer than a phemptosecond)
I have come to realise myself as a fool, for it is indeed spelt as "femtosecond". I shall forever be in shame of this event
@@skmgeek Well that would only be possible in a femtosecond if we have an extremely fast and power Quantum Computer. It will also be have to be directly connected to a huge source of power, like a power plant, to work in such speeds.
@@Idkwhattoputhere989 I doubt it will ever be possible to run hundreds of trillions of calculations in a femtosecond 🦜

19:34 man that’s what our math teacher expects us to do
I'm so upset your description of the difference between GPUs and CPUs makes so much more sense than how my professor in my research lab could ever explain to me
Whenever Minecraft seeds are mentioned I can’t help but think of the headcanon that all Minecraft seeds take place in a single, absolutely unfathomably sized world, just in different locations.
I had no idea people do that and stuff like this is incredibly fascinating
Accourding to this, a 120 block tall cactus is possible theoretically if 4 groups of 10 3 block tall cactuses combined in one corner, but it would be near impossible.
Damn that calamity music at the end. What a banger

the gpu vs cpu issue here would have easily been solved by the architecture of the Cell processor, since it's built similarly: a single PPU and 8 SPUs that can all work in parallel. it's hard to program for. but the workload capacity is insane. i wish the architecture hadn't been abandoned.
and to think i helped with one of the projects XD (don't remember if it was the cactus project, but i think it was) well donated gpu power at least.
The fact i knew the herobrine picture instatly after alllllll these years is wild
You know it's a good century when hellcastle uploads
awesome for mentioning cloud computing. hadnt thought of this option for my bachelor thesis on CFD. this video solved a big headache of mine. thank you
This video is very well put together. Good job, very nice!
thanks for playing terraria sunken sea music at the end
This brings me back to the time where I spawned in a world for my freinds and me to play and my freind and me found a 6 block tall cactus, we made a whole shrine around it until someone accidentally placed a block too close to it ;(
NOOOO NOT THE SIX BLOCK TALL CACTUS!!
I think now we need to band even more people together and find the perfect seed for speedrunning in Minecraft
They say it is just a videogame, but those people are practicing and manifestic their dedication, engineering, forensic and analytical skills, which may be extremely useful for any employer willing to employ a bunch of nerds for some real-world project.
Oh hey, it's me 15:15
hi chip
WHAT
Minecraft is probably the best at being a game which, somehow, functions even though almost every part of it's programming is functionally limitless. Cacti have a range they're SUPPOSED to spawn, sure, but if the code dictates that it CAN spawn over that then the real sandbox becomes "but how much tho?"
I'm surprised this does not have more views yet. Simply amazing, you earned my sub

This defeated the 21 year old me with no skills close to anything they have.
if you could get it to spawn in the corner of four chucks would a 50+ cacti be possible
:o
As someone with adhd, I don’t even this I could match this level of hyper fixation.
Minecrafters making a whole supercomputer for a tall cactus
Wow the lengths people will go to for a cactus is crazy😅
8:00 for those that wants to know more
the "seed" in this case, is the seed of java's Random Number Generator. Minecraft Java edition is... made in Java. and Java's RNG is actually a pseudo RNG, so it's not truly random, you can get back the same "random" numbers by setting the seed of the RNG, just like how you can get back the same world by setting the world seed.
I don't know much about seed cracking since I only do plugins which is net Minecraft server, and not mods or whatever, which would be net Minecraft world
imagine if before all this happened, someone just created a survival world with a 100 block tall cactus, making this redundant

@@RapTapTap69its like a team of scientist studying for years in predicting the possibility of hitting a casino jackpot 10 times consecutively in one try only to find one little blue boy doing it ten times and hitting it all purely by chance.
nah im pretty sure 40 is the max, 10 cactusbloks per chunk, times 4 chuncks, since ten is the limit for a chunk
Feels weird seeing the fascination of tall cacti. I saw this because I had this too back in one of my first Minecraft worlds, just kept stacking cacti till it was extremely tall. We’re really all humans
what if there was a cactus that was made from the corner of 4 chunks instead of the edge of 2?
22:10 never mind…
iI remember finding minecraft@home after looking around for projects to run in BOINC and was surprised some team actually automated a Minecraft project to this extent and decided to run it for a few weeks just for lulz
new hellcastle n tylerrrr vid babes 😻
Guys we should hide Boinc in the Minecraft Launcher so everyone has to donate their computing-power to find tall cactus
so a legal botnet.. for cactus
It takes a truly noble cause to unite people in a way like this, and there is nothing more noble than big plant.

My guy, this is truly an amazing video but... What's even more amazing it's the background music choice!
HOME music is unfathomably good.
And ending with Tides was just perfect
If it was on a corner of 4 chunks could a ~50 block cactus theoretically be possible?
yep, the only limitation to finding it is that it becomes exponentially harder to find it, two times over for the 2 new chunks

Couldn't there theoretically be a way taller cactus generated by 4 adjacent chunks?
I once got a seed
where a sunken ship was like close to a village
and there was a path going to it
making it look like it sunk at the village some how

Aw hell yeah, the best minecraft CD used in the beginning! It's my fav lol
Also, great video!
Many years ago, while just starting to play minecraft, I stumbled upon a very tall cactus which I showed to my sister and we laughed about it, not even realizing how rare they were and that I would possibly never ever see a naturally generated tall cactus again.
so... theoretically, the maximum height for a cactus is 120 blocks tall
I love how smart people come together to do silly stuff
Lol this is such a random topic but its so entertaining, we need more!
As soon as 2 chunk cactus was mentioned, my mind went, "wait, corner would be FOUR wouldn't it" ...
