Replace your failed RZ350 29K-50 CDI with a 1985 RZ350 52Y-50 CDI on a 1984 or 1983 RZ

- Julian Farnam (aka Frame Maker) explains an extremely clean solution to repair your failed RZ350 29K-50 CDI. Using a harness he made he successfully installs a 1985 RZ350 52Y-50 CDI onto a 1984 RZ350. Then shows a completed installation on a 1983 RZ250 (yes 250) with a startup of that motorcycle.
I went through 3 29 series cdi's for my 84 rz350 and yes the Dowl hose clamp trick worked a while. I even heard that placing in a hot oven would work, gave up and ordered an aftermarket from economy cycle. I used the old connectors and it's been running great ever since.
Did you get a programmable CDI from Economy Cycle?
@@KensGarage1 I did not get a programmable CDI. The programmable one required software so I kept it simple. After my PVS circuit quit I wish I would have (controler is built in),thanks to the guy's at hvc cycle I got a new controller. So if money isn't an issue I would go with the programmable.

Hi nice video. The servo controller box is different on 84 and 85. Do i have to change them too maby?
Hi Klas. I am not aware that there is a difference in the servo controller. I could be mistaken, but I believe they are interchangeable. I had to go look it up. The 1984 control unit is Yamaha part number 29L-85830-M0-00. The 1985 control unit is Yamaha part number 29L-85830-M0-00. They are the same part number. There is no difference if we are talking about the power valve control unit.

can you replace a 4l0 RD250lC cdi of a RZ250 29L ?
Not sure about that. Perhaps someone else will be able to answer that here. We did not get RZ250's here in the states. Julian happened to find a gray market one.
have you tried battery powered RZ or RD ? would it work ?
I'm unsure what you mean Braydon. All my RZ's have batteries.

That's a great question. I can't help you out with that. It would be a bit of a unicorn to see those Canadian 1ua parts in the US. I suggest going to the RZ350 forum and asking that question.
Hello, can anyone show me how to wire from 29k 50 to 52y 50? I have both wire diagrams 31k and f2. Also want to use a Electric rpm meter using the y/b wire.
