Lauren and his family literally live across the street from me in Southfield. I used to see him and his dog go for runs. Him walking with his kids. Anytime he would be outside he would wave whenever he saw me. My heart goes out to his wife and kids.

Why is every story by every outlet 90% about the shooter's life and 10% about the victim's lives? It's sad and the people who are harmed or killed deserve much more attention than what wronged them.
It's our way of understanding why and how something happened. It gives us a sense of closure so we can feel better and more importantly, tells us there's something to work on to improve ourselves and society at large.
As for the victim, the eulogies serves that purpose.
News is also about hard hitting impactful statements that shock and awe us viewers. We are frothing at the mouth for vilification and we want or demand to know what a scumbag this perpetrator was to satisfy our confirmation bias about a person or thing. As tough as this may be to hear, even when tragedies befall others, we still somehow manage to make it about us in some small part, whether consciously or subconsciously.

Prosecute the judges that release the criminals. Report them to the Bar Association, file complaints with the courts until they are not permitted to endanger the public any longer. Maybe the DA wouldn't be back logged if they locked him up one of the first three times he offended. On top of that if he had been arrested in the past he couldn't even buy a rifle legally. All gun laws do is to put restrictions on honest people.
I don't know what it would take for politicians to realize that making more gun laws do not make us safe. Criminals do not go to the store and buy a gun. Yes there are some people who at that time were not considered criminals that went on to buy a firearm and use it to kill people. If you look at all the murders in this country or people being shot criminals out number people who legally purchased a firearm. In this country every single day almost every single hour of that day you have somebody being placed under arrest for violating firearm laws. The vast amount of people that are committing these crimes are people who are not permitted to purchase a firearm.
What we need in this country is to have the court system work the way it is supposed to. You get arrested for a crime and it involved a firearm then that is what you should be charged with. That is not happening across this entire country. This is happening in Blue State red state it doesn't matter the court system is letting us down. Making more laws are not going to make us any safer. We have more than enough laws right now that could put criminals behind bars for a lengthy time. These criminals know that there is no consequences for their actions. Just like in this case they could have helped on to this person as they were going through the process.

Everybody in his family knew he was going to Jail or Hell. I seen an interview his mother made a month before he killed officer Davis. She said she has begged to get help for her son, that he has mental issues. Just guessing, I don’t know, but I bet the young man didn’t have a male role model in his life to teach him, to discipline him, to shape and mold him into a man and not a terror. I don’t know if this young man could have been saved, but he didn’t have a fair chance with the circumstances he was in. He was doomed from the beginning, but he could have made different choices in life if he wanted to. He didn’t have a man to talk to him and explain the consequences of our actions. Really a sad situation, this young man was taken too early and destroyed the lives of people around him and the officers family and his two little boys he was teaching to become men. Now they might end up in the situation this thug was in, but I doubt it. Their mother is a strong woman and the officers colleagues will probably pitch in to help the boys with things boys need from their father or a strong male roll model. God bless the families involved in this horrific situation.

Enough of this stuff about the bad life the criminal had and let's start thinking about the victims and their families. You take a life, you give up your life. Not locked away in prison for life with schooling, computer access, free clothes, food and a place to sleep. We need better judges, and DAs that will uphold the law.

This Lt thinks this kid could have some how been helped.....at 11 yrs old he already started his criminal journey. Let us look at his parents or lack there of....it is their responsibility to teach him morals manners character integrity.....not the Police.
I'm heartbroken for the office, who left a beautiful family behind, and his uniform family, but why wasn't something done for this young man from age 11, I see this as a child crying out for help at an early age, I don't condone one bit of what he has done, don't know him never met him, but we have so much like him him who's not getting the help and attention they need, please whoever is in charge let's reach out and help these people so we can save other officers and social workers lives. It's a shame.

It Shure would be nice if police departments could set aside one day a week for a meet and greet for those that the court let loose on bail or probation. After all the department is just looking out for their better interest just like the judges do.
