Just the concept that Sonic Heroes provides with the team aspect made the entire series 10x more enjoyable, associating each character with a group and theorizing the alignment of new characters introduced later in the series like Blaze or Silver
One little thing about the character level orbs that spawn its not entirely random. You get a level up spawn after every 5th enemy you kill (or a guaranteed spawn for killing the bigger enemies) and the type that spawns depends on what formation you are currently on. For example: When you are using Knuckles, The level up that drops will either be for Sonic or Tails. Essentially a 50/50 chance for the characters that are not in use the moment it spawns.
finally someone that gets it i've been parroting these points for a while now and i have only just recently found a video that echoes my thoughts on the subject of sonic heroes from a gameplay perspective i was considering making a video myself about it cause i thought nobody had made an easily accessible way but you did! very cool, excited to see what you have to say next
@@FromHerotoZeroYT you leave out talking about super hard mode which is my absolutely favourite way to play through the game because i agree with your point that the game gets exponentially more fun the more difficult it gets
@moonhead9282 Right, yeah that probably has something to do with how you need to A-rank every mission to unlock it and I am not doing that no matter how much I love the game haha
I'm 2 yrd late so idek if you'll see this but the power core spawn isn't random, it happens after you've defeated 5 enemies or a big hammer one and are systematically from one of the characters you aren't controlling directly. EDIT: i also wanna add something abt the homing attack that i don't think many ppl see cuz it's a quite obtuse condition, but the homing doesn't trigger if ur still gaining height from a jump. You'll notice that you can lock on far away targets as soon as you're falling down
It's never too late to spit some facts! Tbh, the orbs working like that is so contrived that it might as well be random, but it's nice that there was some though behind it at least. I'm pretty sure I've managed to use the homing attack while gaining height though, but there being something there would explain why it's so finnicky sometimes
@@FromHerotoZeroYT Having tried it out recently i think past a certain distance or if the enemy is under you it works too. Maybe the falling stuff was actually another metric but i'm quite sure abt it. As for Mystic Mansion it's definitely because the ghost's hitbox isn't immediately active and it's better to gain extra height and distance by holding the A button after a homing attack to be sure that the ghost is fully spawned and within range EDIT: Okay i've had time to double check and i was wrong, the homing attack only needs you to be above the target to trigger, that's my bad.
Sonic Heroes has a fine enough foundation and I can usually enjoy a romp as Team Sonic or Dark but that's about it. Chaotix tends to be a very mixed bag and Team Rose tends to be way too simple and short, with levels ending before they can even get anywhere. I don't even think Dark really adds much to the experience because the main differences between Dark and Sonic tends to be longer battles and nothing major. I love Heroes aesthetically (though I hate the models) and the energy is what I want in a Sonic game but I can't help and feel that the four team structure adds nothing good to the experience. I'd rather have either distinct level themes for every team or a bigger overall campaign with the ability to mix-and-match characters you want to formulate a team. 3D Sonic games tend to suffer from bad development cycles and I think the amount of reuse in Heroes makes it really evident. I think the game is pretty okay but I feel like it lacks staying power to me. It's weirdly a Sonic game with a huge multiplayer focus when almost all the unlockables are new multiplayer modes.
I agree about the teams, only it feels like the Team Dark stages are how they are supposed to be in most cases except all the combat of course. It's a shame because as you said the foundations for a great, or even fantastic, Sonic game are there, albeit a bit buried
I've played this game several times. I used to play the PC version which is buggier than the GameCube version. I suppose I've already gotten used to the controls because I've barely found bugs during my lastest run with the four teams. That's why I enjoy this game a whole lot. The exception is the special stages. Those become uncontrollable and you can't do anything about it.
I noticed fewer bugs during this playthrough too, but I think it has something to do with learning how to avoid triggering them. The special stages though...
I don’t like how Amy is written in the game. I wish they lean more into the fact Amy was helping big and cream. Find their pets rather than making. It seem like she’s helping just as an excuse to find Sonic. The whole time there’s no way out of marrying me” thing has nothing to do with helping Froggy and Chocola and makes it seem like they misunderstood the point of when Amy said a similar thing in SA2. Yes Amy SAID she would only let sonic out of jail if he promised to marry her, but she was clearly just being a little flirtatious and didn’t actually mean it. Contrast with how she acts in this game, she literally tries to beat up Sonic for saying no. I feel like sonic heroes was the beginning of Amy’s mischaracterization that was still a very prevalent piece of her writing all the way up until sonic free writers and arguably sonic generations.
Barring the games that's come out recently since I haven't actually played most of them after Generations, Amy never felt well written at all. I think she at least has some autonomy going on in Heroes since she's seemingly trying to figure out why Sonic would kidnap Froggy and Chocola which is a better reason for her chasing after him than she just being clingy, but I don't know, it's been a while since I sat down and examined her character arc lol
It's really good, 8/10 game. But, Sonic 2, Sonic 3 and knuckles, Sonic adventure 1 Sonic adventure 2 Shadow the hedgehog 2005, Sonic Riders, Sonic Riders Zero Gravity, Sonic Unleashed, Sonic and the Black Knight, Sonic Colors, Sonic Generations and Sonic Mania are better games. I like heroes little bit more then frontiers if that sounds good. I finished the entire game, I can get A ranks and I just simply don't suck at it. But, heroes still isn't and never will be my favorite child :(
That's fine, everyone has a favorite and not everyone needs to have the same one. Seriously hot take putting Shadow the Hedgehog on that list though haha

You're better off doing the Chaos Emerald Special Stages as Team Sonic or Team Dark given that they're the fastest team characters in the game(Mainly Team Sonic)despite the fact that Team Rose has the easiest missions in the game
@Flare8295 You're right, it does, but the higher your speed the easier it is to get stuck in the sharp turns or get flung around the tube haha. I guess the earlier stages are more forgiving in that regard, but I'd rather play through the stages as Team Rose in 5 minutes in order to get a new shot at chasing the emerald down if I miss than playing the stage in 15 minutes as Team Sonic for the same end result
