In the usa they have a primer called kilz. Wondering if it would work for the brick. They use it to seal in mold, nicotine, stains, when you've had a fire. So it might work.
i'm in the US and that stuff has been awful for any Lime Mortar...fine for portland cement mortars, so i'm not sure if it will just make the mortar continue to dissolve behind it, just like my chimney has :( (so much for the advice of my local "experts"
I think zinsser bullseye 123 is made by the same company, it’s a waterbased stain blocker (and primer and undercoat), that would probably work too, that thing sticks on anything, even laminate and tiles.
My foundation was made from local river banks. it is almost 90 years old and is just sandy and brushes away like you have here. i use a breathable fixative with a spray paint sprayer to go over it. it soaks in and solidifies the "sandy mix". this fixative looks like a white glue. not sure what you can get there. but this is what i use here in the US (i LEARNED about this from watching videos of cottage renovations in Southern France, btw) QUIKRETE Adhesive White Bonding Agent
So much better. I was laughing so hard when Dessy was saying, "it's worse, it's worse". Looks great now and bet you're happy that little project is complete. Another great job by the Dynamic Duo!
That yellow coming through usually is a sign that the bricks have smoke in them, that or they held water for a long period. You must first "deal" the surface to prevent it from continuing to ooze forward. In the US a leading brand is Kilz. You need to do a primer coat then you can paint it. Between coats you must allow the full recommended "cure" time. If you don't seal it first, that yellow will see through sooner rather than later.
Hey guys a little tip from a professional painter in America use masonry sealer instead of that lack it will not dissolve your concrete and it will get a better seal and a better paint job on the end
Just roll it, don't spread it. Leave it thick whenver you use a roller or brush. Do not spread it...that is the rule. I painted professionally for may years. Maybe do a study on painting and staining. Over-Spreading it is the number one thing you must not do.
Since you will need to remove the blocks on that chimney wall , would it have been better to paint the wall without those blocks and leave the blocks not sealed just pull the blocks out when needs cleaned
@@peter-fuppe-fuchs I agree. But the usual response here is, "it is to expensive." So I thought I'd head that off with the obvious inexpensive answer. But I don't understand why these people choose to do a job 4 times to get close to finished than do it right the first time. That seems like a huge waste to me.
Looks nice and fresh for Christmas but I wouldn’t stress too much, that wall is basically a chimney so the paint will yellow faster than the rest anyway😊 It keeps you warm and that’s the most important thing❤
I wonder if a couple of coats from the spray can or rattle can I don’t know if you guys call it over there spray paint in a can would give you the kind of protection you need to cover it with the paint or use them just an idea you guys are doing great though
11:50 "It's not even having a structure" 11:57 "It's like sand with water" Why are you surprised Davide? 😃 The mortar you made was a little bit of clay and a lot of sand - no cement. What did you expect sand and clay would become when mixed with a liquid other than mud? Dessy, IF Davide had patiently brushed on several light coats of sealer over his hastily made sand/clay 'mortar', it would have worked just fine. But Davide's impatient technique of scrubbing away with a paint brush like he is cleaning the floor turned the clay and sand into mud. You try again, Dessy with the paint brush. Gently brush on three light coats. DO NOT "worry" the brush - just use a gentle touch with as few strokes as possible. Don't expect the first coat to be full coverage. You will have full coverage after the second coat Because the wall is hot, the sealer will dry very quickly. ✅

the way they paint has always bothered me. i know they have to "scrub" it into the unevenness of the bricks, but a dabbing is better, then smooth light touch...one way is best. i now your comment seems a bit harsh, but they are young, and admit they are learning. hopefully they will learn some from your comment here

David what are you putting on the wall? It's like making the patch stuff come alive and smearing it all over it looks like a glaze that you put on statue to seal it from the outside.
Good for you for going back to it despite the vomit-like appearance! I'd run away, and never look at it again! Maybe cement in the summer? Until then, the landlord special will suffice 😂 Happy Christmas! 🎄

You could try to find a can of spray clear coat to spray over before you try painting it
Sorry that the sand thing happened. The paint looks good. Painting is always a good winter project. 😊
It’s looking so much better now ! Your decorations are so pretty ❤.

You could try to spray it on with an old spray bottle.
You two are so cute! The music and sound effects are perfect!
The house must be warm and toasty for Deivid to be comfortable in a short sleeved T-shirt. Your hard work is paying off.

Masonry, Concrete, and Brick paint. Behr, for example.
I can’t believe how much yall have done to that 200 year old house 🏠. It’s really looking 👀 good now. Love 💕 your videos.
It’l like painting the beach… very descriptive.
I love watching you!! I've been watching you since the beginning. You've done so well!! So proud of you!!
David, you realize you are constantly making more work for yourself the whole time...👍😂🛠🍌💚🍻
Oh so true. His impatience turns every project into a hack. This time is was using a paint brush like he is scrubbing the floor - again. ✅
Try putting roller in paint more often.
Trying to spread paint too far..
What kind of clear paint are you using? I hope it's not something that doesn't breathe.

I've heard it's important to use a breathable wall paint like a lime wash so the walls can "breath."
Glad you were able to cover that elephant dung, you have a good sense of humor😆.
What are mixing hardener in with that have helped at all. So I want to been so Sandy
david, you are an amazing teacher. you describe things in a way that is understandable at once with permanent learning. may God bless you both
I have watched you since the very beginning and enjoyed all of your videos. Merry Christmas 🎄🎁 and Happy New Year from my house to yours!!!
U could buy like 5-10 small paint cans with different colors, and make that left wall like a mosaic 😊
What was the reason for that?
Humidity and an old chimney. The problem can only be solved by changing the bricks
Congrats you are up to 52.5 subscribers
Why don’t u all paint the whole rooms white including the whole bedrooms
The elephant poop is mostly covered up, as Deivids said "I can live with it." I truly wish you a very Merry Christmas!! See you next time.
Didn’t water prove wall
Definitely better, but again not finished...
ALWAYS GOOD JOB 🎉PERFECTE
