    What tempo have you had most success using in FM23? Have you noticed a difference between FM23 and FM22?

      I usually use slightly higher or slightly lower with shorter passing. Since the match engine update i have just been steam rolling teams, definitely think lower tempo is more viable this year. Playing as OGC Nice in their 2nd season without playing there in season 1 and beat Marseille like 8-0. Got an achievement for having an xG over 5 or something. Seem to be passing through teams way more and we are way less susceptible to counters than before the patch

    As a general rule I don't play with a high tempo just because I personally get so frustrated by my players needlessly giving the ball away with high risk passes. Yeah it can create some opportunities but I find myself just shouting at the screen every 2 minutes if playing high.
    Having said that you do have to look at what the opposition are doing and tweak accordingly. If I have a game where my defensive midfield are being pressed off the ball I've had some success switching the passing more direct and the tempo quicker to just act like those defensive midfielders don't exist and take the opposition pressers out of the game as well.

    I thought if you tick "counter" that overrides the tempo completely in a situations that trigger a counter?
    Thank you for the clear explanation of the general of the concept.

    Your videos are great. I'm pretty good with the tactics. ALthough I could improve at changing them based on the team I'm playing against. I had a 15 game winning streak then got smashed 7-0 as MAN UTD vs Liverpool. Just like in real life that game. lol

    My understanding is that tempo is the speed with which the players will move the ball around, not necessarily directness. Maybe this is different in football manager. In fact, it should not really impact on the directness of play i,e, doesn't mean players should be launching long balls up to the front man or over the top for the striker to chase. Maybe you are playing a direct style of football here with the tempo high thus the urgency for the players to just bang it long or head straight towards the opponents goal most or all of the time.

    • @TheManagersSeat

      This is the misconception I had about tempo too. My understanding of what it means irl didn't really align with what it is in FM - and I don't think the in game descriptions particularly help with this. In FM, tempo is about urgency - the urgency to progress the ball towards your opponents goal. I guess the opposite would be patience? So, I suppose the more direct style is a by product of that urgency. In their haste to move the ball forwards, occasionally they will go more direct?

      That's the FM's big problem, imho. As great as the product is, the developer has never give us clear, concrete description about many things in the game. So it's very usual thing that we have one popular guide saying one thing, while the other popular guide saying the complete opposite.
      I always thought that Tempo is about "how fast we wanna play a series of passes" for decades (and with it, doing runs, movements, etc).
      But after decades of playing, a member of the developer stated that their Tempo refers to "the speed of the ball when you pass it", not the speed of the play itself.

    I've been experimenting this recently and I found changing it throughout the game actually works quite well. As the ai reacts to how you play changing something like the tempo can help your team change how they play much more than other things? Idk if that makes sense.

    • @TheManagersSeat
      @TheManagersSeat  ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I slow it down if my team is having low possession but that also depends on how the match is going. If im winning a close game i might slow it down, shorter passing & try and retain the ball. Also might need to slow it down with the goalkeeper in possession. If i need a goal i might raise the tempo and pass a bit more direct. However if you want to be going forward creating a lot of chances you want your attacking players with the instructions: take more risks & shoot less often. I usually have takle harder as well cos i like to try and win the ball in attacking areas.

      Also mentality plays a factor, when i'm not having posession even with lower tempo i change my mentality to cautious and posession generally goes up

    This was a great video, very useful! I'm just curious if a lower tempo leads to higher turnover of the ball since the opposition will have more time to close your players down?

    • @TheManagersSeat
      @TheManagersSeat  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a good question. I guess it would depend on the attributes of your players? Maybe composure, decision making and vision?

    • @AaronPushesWood
      @AaronPushesWood ปีที่แล้ว

      The opposite side though is if you have a high tempo, your players may rush passes and make mistakes, leading to a turnover.

    • @CaraVerde
      @CaraVerde 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's risk vs reward. Remember, for opponents to close down could also mean that they open some holes for you to exploit. Their shape could also crumble because of they try to close you down.

    Does Will Hughes have average decisions attribute?

    • @TheManagersSeat
      @TheManagersSeat  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      His decision making is 13 (which I guess is pretty average for the Premier League) and he also has 'dictates tempo' as a player trait. Maybe that encourages him to stray from the team default?
