You can tell she's really thinking about this tire situation, she's stepping back and eyeballing it and each time pulls it differently, and then thinking again about how to attack it in another way! A very good challenging toy for our dear Flora.
I have followed Flora since seeing her in AZ at "her" circus, her retirement, her unhappiness and now it looks like she is redirecting her angst and she could hardly be in a better place for the remainder of her time here. Thank you for your wonderful work.
The sad part is, if she played like that while in captivity anywhere else, she'd probably be severely punished. It's good to see her be allowed to use her full strength for something.
restless4400 Flora has lots of tires. She doesn't seem to be interested in them. We built this device knowing that the difficulty and challenge would hold Flora's attention and challenge her. You can see in the video that she starts by pushing at the obstacle. Then pulling it, then using her tusks and head to leverage the tire against the fence, then using her trunk to investigate the chains securing the tires, possibly looking for a structural weakness. Flora is using her mind and body to investigate in ways that she would be able too if we just gave her a tire.
Elephants LOVE playing with tires. Why can't you give these to her? If you used it to give her food in as an enrichment, perhaps consider another container instead of tires. This, to an elephant, would seem like a tease....

I love how she goes after it....then steps back...investigates it with the tip of her trunk and then goes back after it!
Such an inquisitive and clever girl. 😊 I could watch her all day.

WOW! I had no idea they used their tusks so much - cool, very cool animals
I love that she's smart enough to eat the hay first.
Good grief she's strong , thought there for a moment she had those tires ... she was serious too you can tell by her ears ... ♡
So. Funny. That Flora is GOOD. Looks to be great for stress or brain exercise!
Please God. Don't let me come back as a tire in an elephant sanctuary......
Smart girl! Love Flora!
You win today tyre... tomorrow is a brand new day
How playful Flora is! Worried that her tusks would break there for a moment. She is quite the long legged beauty that Flora.
Holy cow she's strong!
She wanted that off of there! How clever she was to try and use her tusks to pry the tires off. That was amazing. No doubt she's intelligent.

I know they would never meet, but I guarantee Sissy would be there help Flora just as long as she's able to take one tire afterwards. ;)
you go get it girlfriend
Wow, that was incredible. I wish she could have those tires.

These videos should have more hits. HMMMMMMM. Non animal lovers.:(
Lol, she got frustrated after a bit. I hope those medal things didn't hurt her
That was great! Hate to see what she could do to a VW bug with tires attached lol! Did she ever get it apart?

Why was there that fence? One your website you say they free range 24/7.
LpsBumble Bunny
The fencing that you see here ensures that the elephants stay within the 2700 acre habitat.
What size are those tires?
Do the caregivers have free contact with the girls or is it always protected contact?
+Bowhead31 The Sanctuary is a protected contact facility. There is always a protective barrier of some sort between elephants and humans.
