I remember hearing a great analogy. Mechanics are like tools. You can do more of a variety of stuff with more tools. However, game sense is like the knowledge to know how and when certain tools make sense to use. You wouldn’t want to use the wrong tool for the wrong job. Game sense allows you to balance both using mechanics and when to rotate into positions that allow you to use them more effectively/efficiently.
I'm sick of this honnestly. Simple counter argument : let's say you have little to no mechanics, you are able to : dribble the ball, side flick, front flick and powershot the ball with pro level consistency (which is already very impressives mechanics but let's admit that), but you don't know how to play on the walls. How are you supposed to counter a ball that's send on your back wall as a pass ? How are you supposed to counter a double tap ? You can't. That's why champ is the rank where people start to consistently know how to play on the walls, because if you don't you'll get clapped since you can't defend your backboard. Plus you don't acknowledge that reading a bounce is a mechanic, even though that is a skill that is earned solely through long time practice and pattern recognition, almost like mechanics, the only difference being that you can't really train it. Gamesense is only two things : your ability to read a play and your ability to make good decisions. Yeah sure you can get diamond with very simple mechanics, for sure, that's how I got to diamond. Back in the days you just had to wait for your opponent to fail what they're doing to get the ball back. But getting to GC by expecting your opponents to fail what they're doing is just wrong. I'm not even talking about SSL but that's already ridiculous. To be honnest, I'd be glad to see one of these youtuber try to reach SSL, hell even GC1 with true no mechanics: starting with completely new controls : using KBM if they're a controller player, or playing with a piano like Wayton did, but this time without partying up with an underanked mechanical player. And it's not even taking into account the definition of a mechanic, big part of mechanical skill is also know how to do things, or would I prefer to say how things are done. See, sometimes I load a training pack a tries some shots, can't do them, looks up a tutorial, it shows me the way and I just need a few tries to get it right. You could argue that it's gamesense, since it's a matter of "how" rather than "controller skill" but I'd argue otherwise.
Chief beef has a video of him playing kbm for the first time reaching gc with no mechanics lol in 1v1 and 2v2, not to mention reading where a ball is going to go isn't a mechanic it's literally knowledge of the directory of the ball.. aka game sense. and driving back wall and waiting for the ball to come to you isn't a mechanic either.
lol keep telling people this I’ll just keep getting better with my mechanics I’ll see you in ssl watch me score some crazy shit you can’t save with your game sense
Hard stuck Diamond for 3 Years here. So all I have to do is play the game for hours and hours by reading what the opponents will do without learning aerial mechanics and then I will up rank. Alright thanks.

Lately I've been focusing more on attacking my opponents mechanics and funnel them into my own corner.
sick vid man

im not mechanical nor smart

I don't think you will ever reach ssl if you think mechanics alone will get you there
