- Only a quick rough video.. (sorry)
Big thanks for all the guys at AB Factors ( abfactors.co.uk ) for sorting the parts out as always. And to Luke and the boys at SAS Fasteners (standard and specialised fasteners ltd) ( www.sasfast.com )for always sorting me out no matter what. (Even M7 nuts today for another job, thanks Big Nigel.)
It was a bit of a busy day so filming came a bit 2nd to getting her done. I needed the van mot'd so we did the first side learning then filmed the 2nd side when the torches had run out....
Thanks for watching!
Good video, we have started using petzl head torches with rechargeable batteries, 300 lumens.
Brilliant video I followed it to a "t" went without drama thanks for posting 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Why did you remove the caliper. On my van, older than yours, there seems to be plenty of space, plenty of slack brake hose, I cannot see how anything would get strained. I prefer to leave as much alone as I can. My van does not have the two front to back bolts and nuts holding the clamp onto the shock absorber but four bolts which screw from the rear of the shock absorber bracket into the threaded hub unit. The plate holding the end of the cart spring only has three bolts. The van does not have ABS. What looks most awkward is getting to the nut and bolt securing the front silentbloc unit.
Get a gas torch on that bumper, best way to back to black it.
Did you need to remove the calliper? Was it just purely for better access?
Would have been a good time to replace those old struts.
Thanks for this. I'm grateful. My Sprinter needs a new lower ball joint. I've been told it's a big job, expensive, sharp intake of breath. It's not that big.
Depends on the garage - Only takes 2 hour labour, for both sides - but they say big job to charge you 3 hours labour per side plus parts. Shop around Hardest thing is finding honest mechanics.
@michaelchristofi3213 I did indeed shop around, as I was in the process of changing mechanics. I've been around the block a few to times to realise thankfully. The garage said
Ball joint
Front Shocks ( my diagnosis from driving it)
Inner rack ends
Tracking
Power steering wear (causing a noise on full right lock)
The garage I went with said
Inner rack ends
Tracking
Shocks
The noise on the "power steering rack" was in fact coming from vibration of the cat on the cat lock.
The shocks actually had a ton of pressure in them. They just had a lot of side play. The wheels wobbled, prior to fitting new shocks. Part of the piss poor suspension/steering experience on those Sprinters is the reliance on wheel stability of side movement on the shocks. Shocks ain't meant to do this, they're meant to take up and down load. As for the transverse composite (plastic) single leaf spring, we'll, er, yeah...... some things are just best left unsaid, lol. Apart from that I love my Sprinter. It's more tiring to drive than the Transit I drive for work, but it'll probably last longer, I hope, its my first one, if it costs stupid money at each service, it'll get swapped out for a ford.
Interesting video. How long does the whole job normally take...both sides arms ?
Whats the name of plate that attaches to the widhbne and holds the bottom part of the drop link?
Can't help on that one sorry. I'm guessing you mean the spring retention plate?
Thank you so much for explaining the the name of the bolt
i guess I'm kinda randomly asking but do anybody know of a good website to watch newly released tv shows online ?
@Guillermo Brett Flixportal
@Rene Kohen thank you, I went there and it seems to work =) I really appreciate it!
@Guillermo Brett no problem xD
Just cut it with grinder put a new one in..
Would have been nice to see how the lower balljoint actually splitting from knuckle instead of just a sledge hammer being put back on the floor 🤣
What if you dont tighten the two bush bolts at ride height?
thanks
Transverse👍
Transverse leaf spring Butti
