  • Hello everyone. In this video I am discussing how a response spectrum is generated using an acceleration time history. I also briefly discuss about displacement vs acceleration time history and how tall buildings are designed and detailed from a different perspective as they are drift driven designs because of the nature of the long period.
Download the spreadsheet from this link here:
    drive.google.com/file/d/1hxFO...
For any engineer it is always important to understand how the loads are developed and how these loads impact the building behavior and design. I feel this spreadsheet can be very useful in fundamentally understanding the different excitation and ground motions and their impact on the structural performance.
You can download more seismic records from this link:
    ngawest2.berkeley.edu/
Selection of relevant time histories for the building site comes from fundamentally understanding the response spectrum it generates. As it is extremely important to understand if the selected time histories actually produce the desired level of seismic hazard for the building that is being designed. Using these kind of tools can easily assist you in analyzing this data.

    Great Video!
    Key Take aways
    1. Soil_Structure interaction effects
    2. Short buildings experience higher acclerations i.e, vigorous shaking while Tall buildings( Flexible buildings with higher natural frequencies) experiences higher displacement demands subjected to the soil on which it is resting. I mean short buildings resting on loose soil experiences lesser shaking compared to Tall buildings on loose soil ( Resonance effect).
Thanks a lot for this video it is really great that you have used excel to create these plots which I feel a tedious job👏👏.

Hello sir, can you make another video explaining the reason behind other buildings? As a engineering student, I feel these kind of videos are insightful and motivational.
