Guys if you are like me and you have bricked your new Mac M1 or other MacBook's then you can try to do a restore or revive process to get it working again. You might be getting the black screen with exclamation mark and the restore URL on it. This video will show you how to fix it.

If the working mac has Monterey or newer, you can revive / restore with finder. I just fixed my 2020 iMac using that method.
I tried in DFU mode to revive and restore 5x. It goes as far as midway in downloading step 4 of 4 and then gives me the padlock. Any ideas why neither revive nor restore works?

Thank you. It happened to me and I spent 10 hours trying to reinstall MacOS on my MBP and I finally found this...I thought I managed to "kill" my SSD or something but it should be fine. I'm taking it to the Apple Store so they can do this for me since I don't have another Mac and my flatmates who got one are not coming back anytime soon. But I am GLAD I wasn't that only one who experinced this problem

This has happened only 2 times to me. Both were from trying to get into startup options, rebooting (even back into boot picker) worked for me. This probably isn't the same for most people, but if anyone's getting it from a similar way, just try force shutting down and restarting.

Were you able to boot into recovery mode, because I was not able to boot into recovery mode too. Will restoring through the DFU mode work if I can't boot into recover mode?

you are a life/money/relationship saver. seriously. thank you thank you thank you. this worked for me. i was experiencing an infinite loop on the macbook, whether i was holding the power button or not!! the normal recovery didn't work, and internet recovery kept stalling and restarting. usb reinstallation was even playing me ... i used my other macbook and followed your steps. so far, so good. the machine became responsive, and I'm waiting for Big Sur to reinstall. seriously, thank you for this. i can even cancel my genius bar appointment!! the macbook is out of warranty any goddam way!! you've earned this fucking donation. happy saturday!

Have Mac Pro M1 2020, didn't use the laptop for over 3 months, once opened was not reponcing, have decided to change the battery, made all to the book, still not responding. Found your video, no responce, the "source" mac is not seeing the patient, no sound or smth like that, combination didn't work. If i am plugging it to the enerygy/to "souce" mac than I "feel" the electrcity is coming to patient mac but nothing is changing. Do you think it's completly dead?
How long will these 2 options approximately take? Is 10 Minutes a good expectation?
depends on speed of device etc 10 Macs seem to take a long time with this stuff. could be longer than 10

After following all the steps with both reviving and restoring device I got an error…the system cannot be restored in this device no space left on device…how do I fix this?
Ahh, the classic DFU mode. I used to put my iPhone in this mode to jailbreak it. As you said, it's the same method, that's why you need another Mac device, all you need is MacOS to run the tool, hence the second device.
The restore option you mentioned worked like a charm, revive didn't work for me
I've been trying to see if this dfu mode is helpful for other things.

Alright this doesn’t seem to be my problem but i have a similar one. I bricked my M1 pro after i upgraded to Sonoma. Now every time i open the Lid of my Macbook nothing appears, not even the apple logo, it takes a while and then there’s a really dim logo of Apple that appears then disappears but it doesn’t turns on. Any help’d be appreciated.

both the restore and revive options get stuck at step 2 for me. the loading part never loads and i’ve waited for 5-10 mins, still no progress. have any ideas about this issue?

@@123myIT luckily all my files were still there! If anyone is wondering why this happened, it happened when I was trying to update the OS. Now I am hesitant to try updating again 😅

No luck. My 2012 Mac Mini never restarted during a Catalina security update. Now it won't power up at all. I tried this reset and the SMC reset from the other video. Nothing happens. No chimes, no light, no signal to the monitor. Nothing. The drives are okay... I've been able to remove then and mount them to another machine externally and the data is intact. It seems like a firmware issue. Is there a way to reset the firmware while connecting it to another machine, like the recent instructions that are out for the T2 chip or silicon macs?

Did you have an iCloud backup? First try reviving the computer. If that fails or if you can’t start the Mac from the startup volume or the recoveryOS, you must restore the firmware and erase the internal flash storage.
Hello, this method worked! I restored my laptop and did everything but as soon as i disconnected the usb c to usb c that connected my working laptop to the broken one, the problem came back and the start up keeps restarting. please help!

How do you find Apple Configurator 2? I only see Apple Configurator in the app store and it says it doesn't support imacs/macbooks

I have same problem and I don't have a second Mac ... It's incredible this version of Mac M1 have more problem , I come from windows and I never see that.
Because the hardware is new. The software hasn't caught up yet. Its a big change from Intel to Apple chips. My advice is to make sure you update the Mac OS updates first before you do anything else.
I had a friend whose printing was not working and I did nothing but update the MacOS and it fixed the issue.

Lifesaver, tried every possible sequence but your demonstration on holding down the keys past the power down is what did the trick. Extremely poor instructions from Apple.

NEVER store data on your Mac. Always have your important stuff on an external harddrive or cloud.

Apple Store, like I'm going to do unfortunately, 2.5 hour drive each way. PC"s are way more advanced if something like this happens.

You need firmware password mate. if you don't have that then you need to take it to apple.

hi. thank you for the great video. i am having a problem with a late 2012 27" imac. the firmware bootrom is stuck on 422.0.0 and will not update, i have spent countless hours trying to make it work. the only OS i have been able to install on it so far is 10.95 mavericks. every other Os after that goes so far along in the install routine and just before it finishes i get the 'this OS cannot be installed on your computer. I have another imac - exactly the same as the other one, which has a bootrom of 429.?.? (dont quite remember the exact number) this one allows me to install an os right up to catalina. - sorry for the long winded explanation of the problem in order to get to my question - can i do something similar to what you are doing in this video on a late 2012 27" Imac?
Yes so Catalina is the last mac OS that is support by 2012 Macs. Unless you want to hack the Mac. You have a few options. BootCamp Windows or run the hacks that will allow the upgrade to later Mac OS. or Buy a new Mac "what apple wants" :)

Its a really old iOS error mate. Something to do with the iOS file not being selected. I'm not sure how you would fix that on a Mac. Apple support maybe?

@@stopmotionshortsraces9410 Was it brand new mate? IF brand new I would send it back. If not brand new then they screen might be broken. Take it to a local screen repair place for a quote and then get a quote from Apple and see which is better.
