    Lovely birds, interesting to learn about different coloured pigeons. I particularly like the ash reds.

    Another great video! Thank you so much for all the useful and interesting information and I love seeing your beautiful birds! I do have a question to ask, I have some van reets that I bought this year that appear to be ash red but have either black or grey wing bars, what colour are they? Are they ash reds or something else? I am hoping to breed them next year and am hoping to find out what colour young I may get! I have a pair of ordinary ash red birds too, but these others are a bit of a mystery. My other birds are all blue or pied so I am excited to have some red birds in the loft too!

      Hi John, I won't be letting any more of these ones go, shocks father is getting quite old and his grandmother (who I think was one of the best stock birds I've had) is already dead. I'll be keeping all this year's young.

    Is ash red the same as silver? Also, is the ash red with red bars on the wings called an ash red bar? Thanks for your great videos.

    • @AdamArcherPigeons
      @AdamArcherPigeons  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Silver really is a terrible term when it comes to naming pigeon colours. I can think of at least four different (genetic) colours that people call "silver". Ash red is the name of the base colour, bar is the base pattern. For a better explanation, see my video "Colours, Parents, and Modifiers" 👍

    • @pipschmitz514
      @pipschmitz514 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Blue dilute is a silver surely? I've heard Mike Tyson refer to a red bar (mealy) as a silver and also heard ash red spread being called silver, then you have the homer and tippler men where I'm from usually referring to a dilute blue checker as an ash lol

    • @AdamArcherPigeons
      @AdamArcherPigeons  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@pipschmitz514 blue dilute is the "truest" silver, yes. Anything ash red based shouldn't be called silver. Lets not get our pigeon genetics from people with concussions 😅

    Is the tail bar on the recessive red black, or is it red? The reason I'm wondering is I would like to get solid red colored pigeons, and I was thinking of crossing a black spread bird with a recessive red. Is this a good way to get a completely red spread bird?

    • @AdamArcherPigeons
      @AdamArcherPigeons  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, adding spread to a recessive red program will help improve the colour.

    How about the color of their beaks? Can that tell? Do recessive reds have red/lighter color beaks? What if the red pigeon has a black beak?

    • @AdamArcherPigeons
      @AdamArcherPigeons  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can't remember what I said in this video, but yes I think I did forget to mention the beaks. Recessive reds have white beaks.

    • @kslofttoronto3055
      @kslofttoronto3055 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AdamArcherPigeons yes beak color is not mentioned in this video but I picked this up from your other video where you had said a way to tell recessive red is the beak color is lighter. Just wanted to confirm. I have a pigeon which is entirely mostly red that I haven’t yet bred which I thought was a recessive red but I think it is a red checker. It has a black beak and ash color tail. Thanks Adam!

    hi. I would like to know how to breed frill necks in my racers. one was breed from brother by sister mating and they have no frill. The other was breed by parent which do not have the frill. The problem is that both are females. Any suggestions would be welcome. The next question is from a pair i breed a grizzel. The thing is that in this family for i have know this fancier for at least 20 years, there are no grizzels and the parents were locked up in a breeding cage so there was no out side interferance. I have put this hen in breeding and this year fifty % of her young were grizzel. Could it have been a genetic mutation?

    I have a Red saddle homer hen (allegedly of Mueleman strain) that was bred to a black saddle cock. For obvious reasons I know that the cock is a spread. This has been verified by crossing him with blues and getting black self offspring. I’m trying to determine if the red hen is a RR or an ash red. Muelemans are supposed to be RR but I suspect that she is ash. She has a few very light (almost white) tail feathers but a deep rich red wing shield with no pattern showing through. When mated to the black saddle most babies are black saddle with the exception of a red saddle cock and an ash red cock, both saddle. The red saddle baby was given away as an egg so I crossed her back to her ash red saddle son. The results so far are a black saddle and two red saddles. The red saddles have some blue checking showing through and one has several darker grey tail feathers. I think the red hen is an ash red and not RR. What do you think? Is it even possible to have gotten a spread ash from crossing the black with a RR or does this prove that she is an as red?
