Had to come back and watch it again when I heard the news. It’s gonna be a long time before there’s another traditional 3 finger picker that can match Jim’s style/technique. RIP, you absolute legend. Them angels probably ain’t ever tapped their feet as much as they have been the last couple days
RIP you fucking legend. Will miss you forever. My life is coming to an end, but this is a man who needs to be remembered. Love you always Jim, thanks for teaching me "Flint Hill special" xxx
I live in France, I play the banjo since 10 years, I'm 16, and here, few people know what it's a banjo, it's too bad... I love the United State, I like every State of your country, and I'm crazy about bluegrass music ! God bless America and bluegrass music ! From my sweet country, France !
Aston67 unfortunately as I’m sure it is in France, most people over here really don’t care for bluegrass but still probably a lot more than France. Best of luck to you in your exploits on banjo.
If you make it to the USA, you can stay here and visit ... There is a jam almost every night of the week somewhere near my home. And we go to Mountain View, AR for Jamming on the Square! www.mountainviewmusic.com/
I got to see Jimmy three times with Kentucky Thunder. He always stood end of the line right side. Such awesome talent. Sleep now Jimmy in Jesus. On resurrection day you'll get to play for the angels and God before His heavenly court
Me too. I had the privilege of going to a banjo seminar at his home a few years ago, and he is one of the nicest persons you'd ever want to meet. Very humble and gracious; he even let us pick on some of his unbelievable assortment of pre-war Gibson banjos. Unforgettable experience.
This was the "Recessional" at my wedding played by Applegate and Company with Dick Applegate on the 5 String at Wildlife Prairie Park near Peoria, Illinois on June 13, 1997.
I really liked this kind of music, these songs not part of the culture of my parents, but I found very beautiful, it's called this type of music in his parents?
You can see Jim's face change when he realizes he missed the other little little d-tuner lick in the second break. I don't think it was intentional that he put it in the 3rd break. Obviously doesn't matter, phenomenal player and I just think it's cool to see him work through a mistake
Gary Johnson Finally someone else but me realizes the older style of wearing the strap on the right shoulder! Like Earl, JD, and Sonny used to do before it got hard to keep it on so they all eventually switched to the left shoulder! NOT JIM ! What a banjo player!
Everybody is raving about this performance, and you really had to throw shade at Jim Mills with your petty comment? You can’t just enjoy the music? It’s a performance, not a comparison.
@@richlabombard6780 . Rich, you were too kind with your comment, and 1000% spot on. I would have taken an hour to give him a historically based piece of my mind!
Yeah that's not Randy Lynn Rag. That sound really close but they aren't the same. Good call, but it's definitely Flint Hill Special. th-cam.com/video/MvnpnFk3gzI/w-d-xo.html

Rip Jim. Sad loss in music

I am so bummed about his passing. So much talent in those hands and the creativity in the mind.
R.I.P Jim.... Such an inspiration Love you miss you
Jim Mills is one of the best banjo pickers in the world
RIP Sir Jim Mills, you'll be remembered by the banjo communities forever...

Gone too soon and never forgotten. RIP ole boy.
RIP JIM. a lifetime of inspiration ❤❤❤
Mills is one of the cleanest pickers around.
Some of the cleanest pull-offs. Jim and J.D. are among the very best in that department!
@Aeugh he's a bed-shitter if ive even seen one
Absolutely
"this is killer!" Well said and thanks for sharing!
I got to see Jimmy three times with Kentucky Thunder. He always stood end of the line right side. Such awesome talent. Sleep now Jimmy in Jesus. On resurrection day you'll get to play for the angels and God before His heavenly court
Can't believe how clean his notes are on such a fast song. That's a pro!
Rest easy legend 😢
rest in peace brother..
Super pro. Man, these old guys get together you better watch out.
I got to meet him and he is a gem of a guy

Jim, I love to hear you pick and I love to watch you grin !!

Some talented musicians on that stage dang
How could anyone dislike this huh? it doesn't make any sense.

Awesome playing. Tx you for sharing.
What a pleasure to hear and see such slick and smooth professionalism!
Marvelous perfomance of the bluegrass stars!
RIP Jim 😥
Jim you just keep getting better and better.
He nailed it
There's a reason Skaggs used Mills as long as he did.
Jim, Bascom Lamar Lunsford loves this, and he ought to know!!!!
Demais, bom demais. maneco - Porto Alegre-RS - Brasil.
Credooo um diamante musical no seu estilo e toda pureza de sua plenitude. Os mestres mostrando o que sabem.
Very Clean
Awesome!!!!!
Solo una parola wow 🥰
Очень круто !!!)))
Perfecto! Jack B.
RIP
Heck ya this guy knows how to pick a banjo
Bravo !
I really liked this kind of music, these songs not part of the culture of my parents, but I found very beautiful, it's called this type of music in his parents?
Fabulous thanks guy's
Very nice 😊
Rip Jim mill
Super.
Mills is a chronically HAPPY guy.
Man and his Machines strings and things
Just why are there negative posts?! Great post and respect 👌😁
Yes indeedy....nice Jim.....Jack
Man his fingers were flying especially on that 2nd solo.
You can see Jim's face change when he realizes he missed the other little little d-tuner lick in the second break. I don't think it was intentional that he put it in the 3rd break. Obviously doesn't matter, phenomenal player and I just think it's cool to see him work through a mistake
Wowwwwww
That mandolin player is no slouch either
That's Ronnie McCoury
OK, Let me see if I know my Bluegrass. He's got the Travelin McCourys backing him up. Del's kids.--- Right ??
Yep
Smokin
👍👍👍👍👍
The good ole Mack crowe
I don't think Jims ever gonna let the Mack Crowe 75 go!
That banjo is probably worth $300,000. He would be dumb to let it go.
I think Jim is one of a few that still strap on right shoulder
Gary Johnson Finally someone else but me realizes the older style of wearing the strap on the right shoulder! Like Earl, JD, and Sonny used to do before it got hard to keep it on so they all eventually switched to the left shoulder! NOT JIM ! What a banjo player!
Even Earl would say that's how it's done.
Tom Hanks on the bass LOL
does anyone have any idea where to get tuner keys like that one of mine broke and i cant find them for less than 70$
Dude $70 is cheap - they cost closer to $250 range
Ebay
Hey guys
Nice picking but no Earl Scruggs just my humble opinion but I also had the pleasure too see Earl in Person before he passed , a Legend for sure

I would love to know what was going through the mind of these 18 people who clicked thumbs down.
Same here. I would speculate an answer, but it wouldn't be nice....
Sleepy Man Banjo Boys, anyone?
yes
Ol' Earl himself couldn't have picked it any better! Great job...
Sure does, HA!
Banjo dobrý?
Ok

Для них это такой же инструмент как наша балалайка.

Did God write this song?
yep....Earl.
Some guy from Flinthill wrote it.
m'
Excuse Me that's the Randy Lynn Rag.
So....you're saying that Jim Mills and the announcer got the song that Jim Mills performed....wrong?
Yeah that's not Randy Lynn Rag. That sound really close but they aren't the same. Good call, but it's definitely Flint Hill Special. th-cam.com/video/MvnpnFk3gzI/w-d-xo.html
Agreed; RLR has the 2nd string move up to C to make D7, whereas with Flint Hill Special the 2nd moves down to A...both good tunes.
I always wanted to learn the banjo, but I'm not inbred.
Your statement represents you well: You don’t sound respectful, bright, or nice enough to learn it…And that’s probably a good thing.
@@shawnmann9491 you've got a purdy mouth, boy - your choice of instruments and music represents you well
Ten thumbs down for this. Lord lord son.
Almost as good as Wynn Osborene..but Wynn is THE BEST...Sonny said so
RIP Jim😔
