Rest In Peace, Sonny. The Osborne Brothers version of “Blue Ridge Cabin Home” was one of the 1st bluegrass songs I fell in love with and inspired me to pick up the banjo.
"Keep telling yourself throughout, if you’re feeling fatigue in your right hand, keep telling yourself it will go away. When I got through my hand was almost cramped, but I won this time. I wished it away and it left…I got to finish the tune. Incidentally, that TH-cam Medley was done in Stockholm, Sweden and I’m playing a Stelling Sonflower banjo." ~Sonny Osborne 12/4/20
Sonny, is the man. He does not know how many hours of enjoyment he has brought to me. RIP. I can envision you now in a string band in Heaven glorifying God.
Man I miss Those festivals when all the great were there, Osborne Brothers , Bill Monroe,Jim and Jesse , Ralph Stanley . They would all be there and we would pick all night long , Still picking all night long , but miss them old days .Sonny is one of the greatest !
Maybe the finest banjo playing I have ever heard. This never ceases to uplift me. That banjo should be in the Hall of Fame for taking part in that. We are so lucky to have that recorded.
I have listened and watched this video a hundred times at least. Just when I think I am getting pretty darn good on my banjo I watch this video and get HUMBLEIZED!!
I grew up in hyden ky. These gentlemen came to our school and played for us...I'll never forget it it. It was like Michael Jackson as far as I was concerned..cuz bluegrass had my heart at the 1st grade. Actually all my life.
Sonny Osborne, what can I say about my hero? To put it simply, the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be. "Case closed. ' nuff said!!" ❤️❤️
He is playing a 1979 Stelling No. 1228 - a prototype of the Stelling Sunflower Geoff especially made for Sonny. Features gold plating, engraved tail piece and armrest, and custom Bellflower inlay. Now owned by Wayne Rice.
PERFECT and BEAUTIFUL BLUEGRASS! Bobby is STILL performing as of August 2020. The Osbornes are from Southern Kentucky where they both grew up as children. From Hyden, Kentucky near Hazard where my family is from. This is in the Appalachia mountain area. Thanks for this great upload . Also Bobby is a Korean war Veteran. He was wounded in action and received the purple heart. Thanks for serving our country Bobby!
@ KY Stars . Some of my buddies in the Vietnam war picked and sang and got killed a couple hours later at Cu chi. They loved bluegrass music but Charlie never stopped trying to kill us 🙏🇺🇸
This brings back a lot of memories. I used to see and hear them every Thursday at the Birchmere in Va. I can still hear that soulful dobro on Wait a Minute.
That's the kind of music that played when I was a mere little girl of 3 and every sunday my parents used to listen to that on the radio.I love that kind of music and I'm 74 now!
Yes, the opening song was Midnight Flyer and when they kicked it off it just blew my mind...but wait there was more...when the got to the chorus with Sonny, Bobby and a very young Paul Brewster - that was hard to handle it was sooo awesome
I saw Bobby and Sonny at an outdoor concert at Manassas, VA in 1974. It rained, my Lord, how it rained. Sonny had on his biker's vest and as he played, he looked like he wanted to reach out into the crowd and rip somebody's face off. But truth be known, a sweeter, nicer man there never was.
What can I add to these posts/ Nothing except my personal appreciation to him his brother and the band for all the best music they have done over the years! Thanks!
Why would anybody give this a thumbs down? Those 19 bandsaw operators have now turned into 81 jealous idiots. I guess if you can't scratch your own nose let alone play a banjo you get a little bit bitter at the world.
Tony Wood , If they are former bandsaw operators, they either are missing fingers and can’t play, or don’t know how to back up and turn around. Did they work at Wabash or Gibson?
No no you take time on that lawn you make it come out right I don't like these NASCAR landscapers I find it to be b******* and this is beautiful bow bluegrass
We just lost Sonny yesterday. Very sad day he will be missed.
Rest In Peace, Sonny. The Osborne Brothers version of “Blue Ridge Cabin Home” was one of the 1st bluegrass songs I fell in love with and inspired me to pick up the banjo.
In Ireland, this man is revered for his banjo playing skills. A master of the banjo and a pleasure to listen to.
The reason why he is so good is because of Earl Scruggs
He was good a true inspiration to all
Anyone else just love the concentration on Sonny’s face?
Yes this is very great!!! I love this

@@CentralVirginian1 that's beautiful. I love that he is still active with his audience online
@@gabemoore3189 He was writing a column (where I saw that quote) for Bluegrass Today up until just before he died.

Sonny's best beard for sure. Stomps that little "beatnik" beard he used to have.
Wonderful! It sounds like his heart is singing through his instrument

As a fellow Kentuckian….I love this comment. Cheers
Sonny made that Stelling banjo talk!! Awesome tone!!
It goes from Cripple Creek to Lonesome Road Blues to Cumberland Gap (in G then C, then G again) and ending with Sally Ann.
Awesome!
90 people disliked this? WTH! This was an awesome performance. The amount of concentration displayed is inhuman.
pathetic haters
That's one extremely lucky audience to get a 4 minute banjo solo by one of the very best.
Sonny Osborne, what can I say about my hero? To put it simply, the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be. "Case closed. ' nuff said!!"

God bless the man who invented the dag gum banjo! It makes ya feel like a fox on the run while sitting on the front porch swing!

He was a great banjo picker I love the way he looked at the guy next to him and smiled
this guy deserves to live forever
It is one hell of a song that I keep playing over and over and over again
My Grampa got me into The Osborne Brothers when I was just a kid, but I didn't realize it then.
Yet, here I am.
And proud of it.

That Stelling banjo Sonny is playing sounds fantastic!
+TheVintage1935 It does sound great but a lot of the credit goes to the hands.
Stelling Sunflower
The banjo Master himself!!!!!
I have to say in my opinion that Sonny Osborne is the finest banjo picker to ever live, he could have done that whole piece with his eyes closed.
I love bluegrass and the Osborne Brothers.
This brings back a lot of memories. I used to see and hear them every Thursday at the Birchmere in Va. I can still hear that soulful dobro on Wait a Minute.
Notice the prototype Stelling Sonflower? I personally met Sonny several times over the last 30 years, always a gracious, friendly fellow!

RIP from France, Sonny. Amazing banjo player.
2019 still priceless
Greatful that I got to see this man perform during my childhood. Look at those Beefy Pickin fingers!
THe 19 folks who dislike this are former bandsaw operators.
Who are too busy listening to their Michael Jackson cds.
Jimmy Moss And, they are dead now
Tony Wood your right .
Why would anybody give this a thumbs down? Those 19 bandsaw operators have now turned into 81 jealous idiots. I guess if you can't scratch your own nose let alone play a banjo you get a little bit bitter at the world.
