    ABOUT ME
I’m 32 years old and I’m a sheep farmer from Ayrshire in South West Scotland, which is why I have such a strong accent! I was born and raised on a sheep farm watching my dad who was the shepherd.
At 18 I went away from farming to work in the city (something I still do) and at 23 (2013) I decided I wanted to do something for some extra money so I went on a sheep shearing course. The hardest thing I’ll ever do was learning to shear sheep. [shudders thinking about it]
I shore whilst on my holidays from work for 2 years and then in 2015 my dad died so I decided to get my own sheep so I could continue working with sheep as it was something I loved doing. From there it escalated quickly from my first 4 sheep in my mum’s garden to now running around 850 breeding ewes.
I shore over 19,000 sheep this season in the UK and have my own shearing run which lets you see many different farms in the summer months.
A few years ago I bought myself a sheep pregnancy scanner and have been building up my run since then.
I watched a few farm vlogs on TH-cam and decided I could have a go and now here we are!
Thanks for watching my videos and please subscribe if you want to see more in future.

The people complaining need to realize that "content" isn't manufactured here for their pleasure first but rather that they follow a sheep farm as the farmers go about their business at times they are able to work extra with filming. Real life!!! Don't listen to the complaints, Cammy.

    • @marleneclough3173
      @marleneclough3173 ปีที่แล้ว +11

I agree! I followed a few channels until I realized they were just content creators and their 'barn' was actually a film set. Now only follow Tom Pemberton also a genuine farm and Zwartbles Ireland Suzanna Crampton a very small sheep farm in Ireland but farmed on regenerative principle lovely videos O have learned a lot and of course Goldshaw Farm because he is just such a decent honest guy.
Love Cammie and Lizzy they work so hard

@marleneclough3173 Just be careful about believing everything Goldshaw says about others. He's vilified farmers for standard practices which have nothing wrong with them, only issue was that he was ignorant on the subject.

That's how farming is: it's seasonal. When it's time to put up hay, the world stops so you get it put up right. When it's time to shear, you do it day in and day out till you're done! I love what you do and how you are willing to take us with you!!

Congratulations to Lizzie on the land & sheep! Nothing to apologise for with the shearing - it's part & parcel of what you do. As you vlog what you do, naturally shearing is a large part of it in summer (and there is always so much to learn, which you are so patient in explaining to all of your non sheep savvy viewers, like myself). Health and happiness to you all. take care ♥

Go with the Cheviot, cross them to whatever you like, we use Suffolk and Charolais as well as the Cheviot, hardy ewes that will work well lambing out, one word of caution we threw out a Cheviot hoggett with six Suffolk rams a few years ago because we had him spare and there were a few more ewes in the bunch than we normally like for the number of rams we had, 255 ewes and almost half of them had a Cheviot lamb, lots had one of each but we were a bit surprised to say the least as the Cheviot didn’t go out on till four or five days after the other boyos, my father always said that a strong Cheviot ram would tip half the country of ewes well he did his best even with plenty of competition.

Cammy, I so enjoy anything you put up for us to see….shearing, lambing, Lizzie, your boys….such lovely adventures. Haven’t any opinion about the breeds you should get tho, since I’ve only ever seen sheep from a distance. Whenever you post a video I learn something I never knew and am fascinated by it all. Must be since I cked my phone at 4am and was overjoyed to see a new posting. Well done Lizzie taking on your own land and flock! Angus reminds me of one of my own grandsons with his sweet round face and energy! Whatever you’re able to video and post is interesting to me, and I love learning something entirely new. Thank you, from Nashville Tennessee. I’m a retired ICU nurse, and love learning the ways of sheep farming from someone that loves what they do. Best to all and I’m forever in awe of Lizzie! 💪🏻🫶🏻

I love to watch you shear, it’s how I found you and Sandi, Joanna from Dale Farm, Joanna (Karol’s sister), Karol, and Right Choice Shearing. Somehow Tom Pemberton, Hoof GP, and Scotland Unplugged snuck in there too. All from watching sheep shearing. Until last fall had never seen a shearing in person, but the man who delivers hay for my horse has a small flock, and shears in Washington and Idaho States here in the US. He had a demo day at a local museum and brought 4 sheep to shear. It was fun to watch in person.

Farming of any kind is rarely predictable, and anyone who thinks it is has never spent time on one ! I've lost count of schedules blown because a goat was having troubles kidding, or hung in a fence; or torn apart my barn ! Predators get in the coops, and have to be repaired quickly, and it's rarely something we can schedule in, right ? We start the days with a rough idea of what needs to be done, and just wing it from there ! I enjoy watching the shearing, along with everything else that goes along with sheep farming.

Ohhh I do have a weakness for Cheviots and Suffolks so this was a treat. I suppose the odder and sprting odd features the more curious I get and a Cheviot... Bold looks and Suffolk with their dark "points" is even more eyecatching. (Black Texel...wow!) Finding the proper flock that will be easy to manage and easy to watch over will be a challenge. Something that takes good care of you if you take good care of them!

Is there any consideration made for the taste/quality of the meat at the end of the food chain production? Do you ever get feedback from the abattoir/stockist on which breeds they prefer for end product or even more specifically can you work out which of your paddocks/feed plans are producing the best quality lamb cuts?

Have you thought about selling the wool you shear? You don't have to go as far into it as Sandi Brock and make it into yarn, but it would provide a little extra money for something you probably discard anyway. The price of cheviot mule ewe lambs and gimmers would make it tempting for you to go down that route. As for white faced home breds, check out Easydams if you’ve not seen them before. 100% NZ genetics. We’ve been crossing them with an Aberfield for the last 3 years with some fantastic results. Breeding a nice compact white headed ewe that lambs with little intervention. Planning to continue to cross between them and Aberfields. Hopefully even sell some breeding females in the future. Having total control of breeding characteristics and health status is an absolute winner for me.

A boy Cammy another good video 👍.
Love watching the Sunday morning videos during breakfast.
Many benefits to shearing lambs, I think it's a good thing. Only down side is you end up with more wool that is absolutely worthless.

There is a shepherd in here in British Columbia, Canada, who is starting a business of selling pelleted sheep wool as a high-quality fertilizer. She bought one of the machines used to make feed pellets and after some work figured out how to use the wool. The thing I love is she has found the dirtier the wool, the better the pellets. Right now she is targeting the city dweller who has houseplants. The pellets not only break down and enrich the soil, they also hold water in the soil so the plants don't near watering as often.
Her next step is buying a larger machine that could handle bulk orders of the pellets. Apparently she has a large crowd of shepherds very excited about having a market for their wool.

I'm not a shepherd, so I wouldn't presume to tell you and Lizzie how to run your business. Imho, shearing lambs is an opportunity for more shearing practice (not that either of you need that) and it teaches the lambs how to be shorn so that when they're grown it's not a surprise to them. Congratulations to Lizzie on her acquisition. May it serve her well!

If you are looking for a contrast to sheep, with plain daily farm activity, give Farmer Tyler Ranch a look. Very different conditions on a Northern California small cattle operation.

Go the premium gimers guys, you’ll get a kick out of it and good money, especially with your platform. And you have options with them. I do love the buying and selling videos too 🤣🤣

Congratulations on taking on more land just be careful you don't burn yourselves out working too hard as for breeding I like Cheviots or mules as my late grandad used to say everyone's breed is the best so breeding your own replacements might be the best idea

I suppose it depends what you want from your speciality. Fleeces apparently don’t make much money but has to be done for health as you say. If the aim is to raise for meat then good conversion with limited supplements must be prime. If sale of progeny is important then presumably close supervision will be required. So looking to bad weather your ability to house stock to some extent must be material.

@TheSheepGame yeh were on aberfields, used to be swales to the Leicester, find the Wethers do better. Not buying in swales has helped, cracking down on feet issues aswell being able to select better on replacements, and breeding replacements from the better ewes
