- www.autobytel.c... The 2012 Kia Forte SX 5-door hatchback is the top of the line model in the Forte line-up. The base model Forte has a starting price of $15,200 with the SX model costing $19,600. The 2012 Kia Forte SX hatchback combines good looks and a more powerful engine. Practically none of the competitors to the Kia Forte offer a 5-door hatchback body style. This gives the Forte a leg up on the competition right from the start. The 2012 Kia Forte SX is the kind of car Europeans would drive. It looks good, is practical, and has plenty of cargo room and utility thanks to the hatchback design.
The Forte SX model is more powerful than the standard base model. The base Forte LX is powered by a 2.0 liter engine that makes 156 horsepower and 156 lb-ft. of torque. The Forte SX sports a bigger 2.4 liter engine that puts out 173 horsepower and 168 lb-ft. of torque. The bump in power only results in a tiny loss of fuel economy with the Forte SX getting 23 MPG in the city and 32 MPG on the highway. The 2012 Kia Forte SX gives you the opportunity to drive an economy car but yet has the versatility and look of a European 5-door. All in all Kia did a good job with the final product that is the Forte SX.

Just bought the SX - automatic. One of the best purchases!
I used to drive a red forte koup sx and got TONS of compliments on it. You would think I drove a porsche with the way people looked at it and asked questions almost weekly. I had it nine months.
I too get 26 MPG. Where I work/ live are not far apart (8 miles.) On average, I am fill this car up maybe once every two weeks. My wife and I are having a baby and needed something that was going to help with getting groceries, carrying a stroller, etc, but that was not going to eat gas like a big SUV. I've owned Pathfinders & GMC Acadia's and was not enjoying money paid out for gas. For the options we got on ours - it was a fantastic buy and definitely gave us the most bang for our buck.
Ever since Peter Schreyer became the head designer for Kia Motors he has managed to start a revival for Kia. Peter was the head designer for Audi and Lamborghini; which are German and Italian car companies, respectively. So when Peter became the head designer for Kia- a Korean car company- he knew that in order to help Kia sell more of their vehicles he would have to design vehicles with a splash of European flair to catch the eyes of potential buyers at Kia dealerships while incorporating the best technology and safety features on the automotive market today.
Yes I'm aware of the costs, I used to work at SeaLand when they were merged with Maersk shipping. Back then it was a few hundred to ship a car from Seattle to Germany.
Don't forget the 10 year/100,000 mile power train warranty, not that it'll need it. My 2002 Cinco has been solid and I'm a huge Kia fan based on what most considered junk 10 years ago. So, with the new crop of Kias, I can hardly wait to do some test drives. The biggest problem will be deciding among the Rio, the Forte, and the Soul. But what a choice!
@avlisk I have a Forte 5-door just like this but in silver. I love it. With Leather, Sunroof, and Navi, I got it for 19,750. Can't beat it for that price
The Forte is being redesigned for 2012, so wait til you buy one, you might prefer the new model. I thought they were going to drop the Forte but apparently not.
@techdude6693 i can confirm that... 2.4L gas mileage is only good on long drives with cruise control on, you start mixing city and highway driving... between 21-23 mpg...
26 MPG mixed driving on my SX Hatch. More city tho. Although I'm light on the throttle
The s15 wasn' banned in the U.S., nissan just didn't want to sell it there. The thing that's illegal is the importing of those cars without registration that's why alot of s15's are impounded. They were illegally imported to the U.S.
this is the korean version of the audi A3, but cheaper, wich is awesome
@avlisk Yea that's true. The Forte's mileage with the 2.4L isn't that good. Although the EX with the 2.0 at 26/36 isn't too bad considering its got an extra 20 HP under the hood and its much larger
@techdude6693 those two are like clones, forte is actually a little smaller but the over shape and size are pretty spot on except the Forte's width carries upward, the Impreza gets more slender as you go up
I just bought this car from a family member, i haven't driven it yet. I'm 6'2, will i be able to comfortably sit in it??
@techdude6693 i actually replaced mine with the RoadRuns grille... first though, I primered and painted the original one black.... liked it for about 5 minutes then just bought the RR Grille

Hello, is there a chronic problem with this model car?
My 2011 Forte SX 5-Door at 45,000 miles has now developed a constant rattling/popping noise coming from the Front Sway Bar Bushings. The dealer wants $540 (3-hours labor) to replace the 2 front bushings (need to drop subframe to replace bushings on this vehicle). I wonder if the 2012 model's have the same problem?
umm... did he forget the mazda3 is also available in a 5 door hatch?
No, he's just saying that in the compact car market; the two dominating vehicles are the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla.
Isn't Hawaii a lot closer to the Asian countries then the US Mainland? You would think you wouldn't get charged such an enormous price.
@silfocus84 I'm looking to get a RR grille later on. I want to get a TurboKits Intake right now and I figure the Koup Black Grille can hold me over for a bit till I get the new one. Also I want to change the front bumper for a Koup SX one. Its a sweet look

@silfocus84 I'm going to that to mine as well. My friend bought a RoadRuns grill for his Koup, so he's giving me his black surround grille. I want to debadge the back and replace the Kia badge with those K Logo badges
Nothing wrong with it really. I made the mistake of saying to a salesman "its a bit small" while waiting for the koup to be serviced. He asked if I had driven an optima. I hadn't and I did so that got the ball rolling. I was shown how much I would be given for the koup (paid 18000, trade in was 15000....it was slightly used with 3,000 or so miles on it when I bought it) which really suprised me. So in four days I was sitting in a 2012 camaro. Now I own a 2013 mustang. Camaro was too big.
I'll have to check if this comes with a panoramic moon roof.

@techdude6693 gonna be slight fitment issues cause the Koup has different fenders. but it's nothing drastic.... 0.5" difference I believe
These cars are not worth 25k, are you nuts? My Focus SfE was 21k, got the dealer to throw in the 249 USD all 4 windows tinted to legal specs in lower 48 states. For more then 21k you could get a Focus hatch, but I would never pay more for a car 20 inches smaller then my Focus sedan, Ford has the pricing range backwards if you ask me.
@techdude6693 It will just be hard to pass up the MPG of the GDI Rio. But I sat in the Forte 5 and it fit me like a glove, like my 2002 Cinco, which I still love.
What your fuel consumption?
@silfocus84 Well, tbh, my mileage hasn't been bad. I'm averaging 24-25 in mixed driving on mySX Hatch. Speaking of the Impreza, the other day I went to get some groceries and a person in the parking lot asked me if my car was a 2012 impreza... like wha? I mean, there's kia badging on it

@techdude6693 my buddy removed the Forte and SX off the back.. not on request, it was just surprisingly easy and didn't even need any clear to get the glue off lol. I changed the grille cause I didn't like the plastic chrome grille... not a fan of chrome on certain cars. I actually disagree with my buddy who thinks my Forte hatch looks better than his STi hatch... I want the STi hatch, but obviously he won't go for a trade lol
Hyundai has there new Elantra wagon out, its prety sexy and way better looking then the Kia Rondo.
