It actually looks pretty cool. I was never really a Kia fan but they've really stepped it up the past few years with the new Sportage, Optima, and this new Rio.
Great review and video as usual Kyle. Man Kia has come a long ways. Seems like about five years ago some people would turn their nose up at the idea of driving a Kia. Not anymore.
Happy with my 2013. I'm 6'3" and with the seat back to my comfort driving position the person behind has little room but i can move up a few inches and still have a relatively comfortable drive. Also on the passenger side i can adjust the front seat forward so that my knees are close but do not touch the dash and in that seat position i can then sit comfortably behind the passenger seat as well without my head touching the roof. The back seat is meant for only 2 adults but 3 children would fit fine, two regular size adults and a small child in the middle would fit but i wouldn't do this for long drives. ECO mode is great for city driving and does help with fuel economy although it will be sluggish in ECO mode, turn it off if you need to get to higher speeds quickly. I must say once you are inside it does not feel like a sub compact but a compact. Fold in mirrors and manual shift paddles are nice options but will not be used by most people. The seats themselves are very comfortable for me, i like the seat to feel a little stiff and not too soft, the headrest is also perfect for me and it is adjustable in 4 different positions from back to forward as well as in height. After a 6 hr drive in the car i had little discomfort. My one complaint would have to be the braking, it does not respond as quickly as i'm used to but it's not bad either.
dedman1970 would you recommend the 2013 to anybody I seen one that's reasonable price 8,000 50k miles...has this car been reliable and good to you and is the maintenance is expensive?
Tyler Sauls this car is reliable with proper preventative maintenance. Currently have one since new with 90k miles and only had to changed the spark plugs (preventative), battery and all 4 tires.
My family has a 2012 Kia Rio Hatchback (as seen in the video), but in white. It has black and red perforated leather seats, LED interior lights and a sunroof. In addition, it has a single-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry and push button start, an aftermarket bodykit and aftermarket wheels. The only downside to my family's Kia Rio Hatchback is that it does not come with a reverse camera.
My sister have this car already... Got to say. Im quite surprise and impress with Kia. The car is not really quick, but adequate enough for city driving. The engine is quiet too... even when cruising.
It looks like a subcompact hatchback. That's what you get if put a toilet upside down on wheels! :D That's what came to my mind, when I first saw the Golf V GTI and that's what all subcompact hatchbacks look like. Actually in Germany the Ceed has benn compared with the Golf and won, as it can be found in the AutoBild. The Rio runs in the class of the Polo, Fiesta, Corsa etc. over here.
I have lived in a place where Renaults are sold and I dont understand why they dont sell here in the U.S. because they are great cars, kind of like European Hondas, they last a long time. On the other hand, I appreciate the variety of cars and engines we have. I admit that many times a V8 is unnecessary, but I wouldn't want to live in a country full of 1.4L engines or so. But we do need more diesels.
My sister elaine has this car here in panama. She has a 2012 kia rio hatchback but is the lx and also in this color but is very nicely equipped witha 6 speed automatic transmition, power door locks and power windows, 6 disc changer, am/fm radio, aux/usb outlets, airbags, and fog lights but no factory alarm
I wish this car came in more color options, it would look AMAZING in a smoky cobalt color or a bright green, like the fiesta comes in, either way I am sooo buying this car
Sean Young I'm 6'1 and I bought a black 2013 EX with the convenience package. I fit fine head, lead and shoulder wise but anyone behind you you'll have to move up a bit. I'm still comfortable even moved up to make room for one of my taller friends. I love my car, just wish it had a bit more power since I was so used to my old 4Runner V8 and my moms TL Type S
Very Nice review man, im on the wait for it and i wonder why 1.6 sounds so loud???, i test the 1.4L and the engine is so quiet. by the way do you know which kind of suspension is coming in the SX on factory settings?
Finally, they are letting you drive the cars...we're all cheering for you onto the way to the 458 or Adventador or GTR whichever really :) ---Kyle for the next big car journalist on youtube!---
True but it seems all cars with direct injection will sound like that. Even the premium compact BMW 328i sounds all clacky when running. The one thing I noticed is the 3.6 in the Cadillac CTS doesn't sound clacky and it's a DI motor too.
Speedo of a Mini, wheels of a GTI, rear quarter if a GTI, door chime of a Toyota, quarter windows of a Honda fit...this looks like a combinations of OTHER cars. I don't mind this though I'd prefer something with a Hyundai badge rather than a Kia. Great video
I could have gotten on of these (not as high of trim) or a used 2008 kia spectra with 17000 miles. I went with the spectra and after seeing the key on this i kinda wish i would have picked this on. Hahaha
im currently driving one of these (base model rental car) while my car is getting fixed from a collision. im pretty impressed on how much better these new KIAs are. their improvement is notable. the ride is smoother than my car, and the interior is um.. cute? lol. in general, i like driving it and it feels good for what u pay for a car like this. only thing i dont like is that the steering is too smooth, feels like its for women. maybe its cuz im used to my car which has tighter feel.
I really enjoy the road test version and looks like the Rio has the same issue with the Accent with the excess interior noise and shaking when going over suspension joints on the highway.
thanks it was realy usefull, because I'm about to change my mind after looking at that review, because I wanted to buy a kia picanto, but now I'm thinking about rio, but especially the sx gdi :) thanks again.
Hi Kyle, I've wachted a lot of your vids, and I think they are fantastics, the best on the internet. I'd like you do vids about european cars like Peugeot, Citroen... Thanks for your atention and your vids.
Come on, people. The designer behind Audi and VW from a couple of years ago (and responsible of many design schemes from them) has been now Kia's designer for all its lineup. Its not copying. Its actually the same designer.
hey kyle, i love your videos man, i can literally spend days watching them. i don't know if the skoda exists in your country, but could you try and get your hands on a skoda superb? I WOULD LOVE TO WATCH A REVIEW OF IT
I was wondering doing videos like this, here in Brazil, there's a lot of differences of the cars selling in USA and here. What do you think about that? And Thank You for this wonderful video.
In Europe there is a version of the rio with a diesel engine. it has 104 hp and it can go 100km (or 60 miles) on 3.2 liters (or roughly about 3/4 of a galon). If the US is in such a big crisis concerning gas prices why don't they sell this 66MPG variant in the states. i get that people are all running arround and saying "Oh no! gas is $4 a gallon. Well, in Serbia a liter is 155 dinars and 70 dinars is a dollar making it about $2 a liter making it about $8 a gallon. And you thought it's bad!
I noticed that it has the 'hangar' wipers rather than than the 'flat' wipers is that on all models in the U.S? Here in the U.K all Rio models have the 'flat' wipers on them.
Planning to get a used car and found this. 9 years ago but the video quality is awesome. Thanks!
I like how your car reviews are a lot more in detail than other car channels.
Especially 10 yrs later
Hell ya! A new Saabkyle04 video :) I love just spending the night drinking some beer and watching in depth tours done by Kyle. He's the BEST! :D
I love the way you move your cam. Awesome review as well
Impressive list of standard equipment & options for the money.
Not anymore.
what i admire about you is that you review a Kia in the same manner as a Rolls or Maybach.
I am Brazilian and I follow the time his comments on cars you analyzes, and see clearly where a lot of stuff just sausage, ie goal, hugs!
Yo mate, i have the same model but 3 doors,6 manual gear and limited edition electric blue...thats an awesome car... cheers from italy !!!!
For some reason Kia doesn't sell the Rio 3Door and the Picanto 3Door in South Korea.

kyle, you reviewed one of my most favorite cars!!!
THANK YOU :)

my problem with the new rio was there was no manual... but the 2013 rio sx now has stick and im so tempted
very well done review!
just bought the car (well the similar EU-version of it) and this adds to my anticipation till delivery :)
I have lived in a place where Renaults are sold and I dont understand why they dont sell here in the U.S. because they are great cars, kind of like European Hondas, they last a long time. Very impressed with this hatchback! Kia! I pretty much like all of their vehicles now!
just bought one sunday its tuesday and im averaging 35 mpg love it
Hyundai and Kia has really improved their design. It looks fantastic
My sister elaine has this car here in panama. i love ur videos especially the classic cars
Congratulations on 100,000 subscribers, Kyle!
I'm 16 and I wouldn't mind this car as my first.
I wish this car came in more color options, it would look AMAZING in a smoky cobalt color or a bright green, like the fiesta comes in, either way I am sooo buying this car
UPDATE! I DID BUY THIS CAR! I BOUGHT IT IN BLACK! 2013 I LOOOOOOOVEEE THIS CAR!!!!!!!!!!!
Hmm do you find that people that are 6 foot tall have award time with head room , because I'm looking for a first car
Sean Young I'm 6'1 and I bought a black 2013 EX with the convenience package. I fit fine head, lead and shoulder wise but anyone behind you you'll have to move up a bit. Amazing video. Thank you so much for going into detail like you did. I think you have made my mind up for me...the Rio it is.
best in depth presentation i've seen for a long time...great car too. i wouldn't mind seeing an in depth look at the rio diesel, claimed 88 mpg.
Kia and Hyundai are just the best! I really like this Rio!
saabkyle04 i need your advice, what should i buy ?
1- mustang boss 302
2- dodge Challenger SRT8
Please ASAP
Finally, they are letting you drive the cars...we're all cheering for you onto the way to the 458 or Adventador or GTR whichever really :)

great review. soon ill get this type of car. merry Christmas everyone!

I liked the review, too.
One suggestion: If you must swoop the camera around, MTV style, please do it slower. Thanks.
Great video! Kia is adding paddle shifters to the SX model for 2013!
very nice review and camera view
great, honest, thorough review.
Excellent job. Keep up the good work.
Big Hi from Latvia!!! Like your videos very much!!! Great job!!!

haha I know right, beats most of the songs that come out today! One of my favorite songs!
congrats on 100,000 subscriber's Kyle!
I've owned both a Polo and Rio, all I can say is if you like an uncomfortable ride, go for the polo, the Rio is superior in every way.
Best in its class, Peter Schreyer inspired audi-'ish look
Very good economy car!
I'm curious. In some of the videos of the cars your loaned for a week, its filmed in this driveway. Do you have a new filming location?
Not a bad car. Great vid as always Kyle!
i love those 5 star wheels it has
I really enjoy the road test version and looks like the Rio has the same issue with the Accent with the excess interior noise and shaking when going over suspension joints on the highway.
thanks it was realy usefull, because I'm about to change my mind after looking at that review, because I wanted to buy a kia picanto, but now I'm thinking about rio, but especially the sx gdi :) thanks again.
You have maybe....the best job ever!
Kyle videos makes me happy :D.
Hi Kyle, I've wachted a lot of your vids, and I think they are fantastics, the best on the internet. I'd like you do vids about european cars like Peugeot, Citroen... Thanks for your atention and your vids.
That car amazed me!
Great intuitive video

Best review. (Have seen more than 12)
I like this little RIO Good Video
hey kyle, i love your videos man, i can literally spend days watching them.
i don't know if the skoda exists in your country, but could you try and get your hands on a skoda superb? I WOULD LOVE TO WATCH A REVIEW OF IT
Nope, I know skoda is in VW Group. But unfortunately this brand is not sold in the US
the LCD is small , but very sharp and quick response
Great video. Do you think sometime in the future you can review the Ferrari F12berlinetta?
I was on the Car connections website & saw what i think is Kyle's '95 Roadmaster!
Is this a personal car? Also is that a sticker or a magnet on the hatch?
this is another cool video
I like the new rims Kia has got going on :D
I really like your videos, you seem like a nice guy!
Loving the Ghostbusters !
Nice review!
Great little car, does what its suppose to do
very nice review!
I actually really like the exhaust sound :)
13 dislikes..wtf its a great car and that was a great review.
Kia is seriously making Honda and Toyota nervous with the stratospheric rise in quality over the past decade. Get ya game up, playas!
Hello Kyle, this 2012 Kia Rio SX Hatchback is a manufacturer demo car or not?
Is that this car sent to you?
Greetings!
Loving the ghotbusters!!
It's not the best car but if you think what Kia's were like 10 years ago you will see it's a huge improvement so in that way it's really not bad.
I was wondering doing videos like this, here in Brazil, there's a lot of differences of the cars selling in USA and here. What do you think about that?
And Thank You for this wonderful video.
Kyle, you dont have many acura videos. It would be great if you could review them, especially the MDX! Thanks!
YES!!! Thanks I love this my 1St car right here but I want it in Blue
nice review there. thumbs up
Kyle, why have you got the Saabkyle04 logo onto the back of the Rio?
In Europe there is a version of the rio with a diesel engine. it has 104 hp and it can go 100km (or 60 miles) on 3.2 liters (or roughly about 3/4 of a galon). great video! great car
Good!!! And excellent video!
Yes, test drive!
sweet bumper sticker!
Hi Kyle! Will you review Volvo V60 in the future? I really like your videos, thanks a lot! :D
I noticed that it has the 'hangar' wipers rather than than the 'flat' wipers is that on all models in the U.S? Here in the U.K all Rio models have the 'flat' wipers on them.
kyle why are you doing so many new cars lately? ): (long time subscriber)
I have a problem with Kia's in particular... They never offer a manual in the SX trim, and funny enough, the SX looks the best
Kyle is selling his roadmaster :OOOOOOOOOOO
The engine/exhaust note sounds EXACTLY like my 2007 Mazda MX-5!
soupnazi81 that’s a great car too I have a rio and a protege and I am happy owner of both
im buying in 2 month :)) my first carr yay~!!!
great looking car, but how durable?
nice review
