Mahmut Bey Mosque

Mahmut Bey Mosque was built in 1366 by Emir Mahmut Bey after the collapse of the Anatolian Seljuk State. We should mention that it holds an important place among the mosques in Anatolia with wooden ceiling and wooden-supported structures. Mahmut Bey Mosque, also known as the Nailless Mosque among the public, used an incredible architectural technique in its wooden roof and was constructed without using any metal nails, which is where it gets its name from. We know that the only thing that has changed in this mosque in Kastamonu province is its minaret, which collapsed during the 1943 earthquake. Fortunately, the mosque has never undergone any restoration work apart from that. The wooden carvings that we see have been preserving its history since then. Additionally, this valuable structure was listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List in 2014.
Bugün ahşaba ve süslemeye doyacağız, anlaşılan! Mahmut Bey Camii, Anadolu Selçuklu Devleti’nin yıkılmasının ardından 1366 yılında Emir Mahmut Bey tarafından inşa edilmiştir. Anadolu’daki ahşap tavanlı ve ahşap destekli camiler arasında önemli bir yere sahip olduğunu söylemeliyiz. Halk arasında Çivisiz Cami olarak da bilinen Mahmut Bey Cami ‘nin ahşap çatısında müthiş bir mimari bindirme tekniği kullanılmış ve ayrıca hiç metal çivi kullanılmadan inşa edilmiş. Adını da buradan alıyor. Kastamonu ilimizeki bu camiide değişen tek şeyin 1943 depreminde yıkılan minaresi olduğunu biliyoruz. Şanslıyız ki bunun dışında cami hiç restorasyon görmemiş. Gördüğümüz ahşap oymalar da o günden beri tarihini koruyor. Ayrıca bu kıymetli yapı 2014 yılında da UNESCO Dünya Miras Geçici Listesine girmiş.
