      Paul Williams ,
      If you are building your own chicken tractors and they are too heavy maybe you can do as I have done. I make mine by using 2" X 3" in stead of using 2" X 4" . The 2" X 3" are quite strong enough for this purpose and are lighter in weight. I have even used 2" X 2" successfully . After all , it's just a box of sorts depending upon the style. If age matters , I am 77 1/2 years old.

    I just slide mine on skids. I cut some of that flexible pvc drain pipe (non corrugated) and fastened it where it goes over the back two corners of the frame (lengthwise) and it slides easily, even on dirt and rock.

    Jason I think it is worth the price as it means Lorraine can now move the chickens easily, this takes the stress off when you are away.
    I am 68yrs old & would definitely use that. Cheers Denise - Australia

    Just installed a Chick Lift on BOTH ends of my coop. My turning effort is minimal. Chick Lift has a caster wheel version but my double was a cheaper way to go. If I get another larger coop, the casters are definitely in my future. BTW… You will NEVER wear these lifts out! Love this product!

    Thanks so much for showing where to get this thing that I asked about the other day. I know I'm not the only one who asked. I actually took a screen shot of it so I could look for it if you didn't answer back haha. My coop has wheels in back but one is flat and I'd rather it sits flat than off the ground leaving a gap. My problem is that it's too heavy to pick up in the front, and wish I had swivel wheels in front.

    My wife loves our chickens and wants to be involved with them on a daily basis. Including moving the chicken tractors which have no wheels. She can move them by pulling on a rope. But to make it easier for her , I attached two eye bolts to each front corner. One or maybe two dollars. A nylon tow strap with hooks on the ends. I think that was $9.95 . Hook onto the eye bolts , attach the tow strap to our lawn tractor ( my wife loops the tow strap around the back of the tractor seat ) and my wife moves the chicken tractors , easy peasy. No muscle strength required at all .

    The cost of easily moving a chicken tractor is worth the price. I have seen a lot of jury-rigged wheels that make it nearly impossible for women or older folks to move the tractor! Even being a SS monthly checks it would be worth a one time charge to make life easier with everything that needs doing! Thanks, Jason for putting this out there! Awesome! Something I will look into for next year's meat birds.

    I like that idea. I put 4 wheels on mine (each corner). If you have a bad back like I do then I definitely recommend more than just two wheels and a rope. So much easier to move. I love John's tractor. It's really easy to modify for your individual needs

    I view this product as a niche product something that people like Loraine that just cannot move the tractor without it. It seems very well made and easy to use. It's value likely will be based on need.

  • @HomesteadingCityStyle
    @HomesteadingCityStyle 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Awesome, I think if you cut the 2x4’s off where the old wheels were , it will even be easier bc those pieces are sticking out past the new wheels. Just a thought!!!

  • @annmerrill797

    I feel ya! We live on rough terrain so moving a chicken tractor is a challenge especially in the rainy season. Mud runs don't have anything on homesteading. Lol.
    This is similar to what I am having my husband help me fabricate for our chicken tractor. He taught me how to weld but there's still a lot to learn. We are going to use old boat trailer jacks. So if you run across those freebies and know how to weld...it would be an option especially on a tight farm budget.
    Thanks for sharing!

    just an idea dude you could add on a piece of wood where you have bolted on the new wheel so that the wheel lifts the tractor a little higher ?? so it is a little easier to pull and use the outer wheels aswell..just an idea ...cool vids bro ..love the vlogs peace

  • @droptozro
    @droptozro 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Definitely getting one of these. I have one tractor with a coop portion up top and I built it way too heavy! I can move it little by little myself side to side but for longer moves I have to hook up my riding mower. Thanks for showing and reviewing this.

    • @donaldmiller8629
      @donaldmiller8629 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      droptozro ,
      I also have two story chicken tractors. What's wrong with hooking up to your lawn tractor ? That is my method. Two eye bolts and a tow strap with hooks. My wife easily moves our chicken tractors with no wheels at all because she loves driving the riding lawn mower. I have been experimenting with lighter materials. 2" X 3" work just as well and 2" X 2" also work. It's just a box after all . A bear might be able to break a 2 X 2 but bears generally stay far away from humans. They would be more likely to pull the 1/4" hardware cloth loose.

    Excellent product. So sad people are complaining about the price. Homesteading is for years, not the moment. Figure it out. $150.00 for 10 years is $15/yr.....WELL worth it. Great video Jason and it will encourage Lorraine to help anytime. Love her enthusiasm....Nice...

    • @JerryB507
      @JerryB507 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This unit should save about 1 minute per move, 30 seconds each to put the wheels on and take them off. Say Jason moves the tractor 1 time a day average. Over 10 years that's 60 hours more he can spend with Lorraine and Penelope doing fun things like picking garlic.
      Now, think about it from a labor cost. If I value my time at a mere $15hr, that's $900.00, or a savings of $710.00.

    Love this guys! I bought one through your link. I got to look at this to see how to mount it. It's great! It was getting too hard to pull my Joel Salatin chicken tractor and now it's much easier. They really don't show how to put the lift on anywhere but here. The washers I got were big enough that the bolt head was almost through the washer hole. It didn't make much sense. Maybe they couldn't find the bigger washers like you had? They are still just painted. Mine is already starting to rust. Thanks for showing us this product.

      It's $190 with shipping for one. Think not only of your back, but the cost of moving that tractor. If it saves you one minute per move and it lasts 10 years, that's 60 hours saved. On my "farm" I value my labor at a mere $15hr, so this will save me $170 over the 10 year life.

    I like it. I see quite a few people in the comments saying it's too expensive, they could make one cheaper - well, what's stopping you? Everyone likes some healthy competition, but I'm willing to spend a few extra bucks on something already made, tested by someone I trust like Jason, that isn't wildly out of a decent price range versus making the same thing myself, even if I have all the equipment to make it because my time is far more valuable doing other things than reinventing the wheel (so to speak). People talk big, but when it comes down to it, I imagine very few people trash talking in the comments here will end up making one. Jason, when I rebuild my chicken tractor in the fall, I'll probably get one of these, and me and my back will be thanking you for the demo.
