    This video is 9 years old and yet somehow still the best and most informative I've seen! I've spent hours looking up wheel systems. Thank you! What could make it even better would be a materials list in the description.

    Thanks so much for replying to my questions! My husband was having the hardest time trying to figure out how to do the wheels on our tractor so I was very happy to finally find your video. You even used the same type of wheels. Even after watching your video several times, he was still having a problem following your instruction. I was able to help him through it and the wheels work great. Thank you so much!

    It looks like you shaved off some of the wood from the pivot point hold to the wheel spokes. Was it because the wheel rubber was rubbing against the wood? And if so, what are the instructions to do this? Thanks

    • @MulcahyHomesteadingProject
      @MulcahyHomesteadingProject  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Denise Samson Good catch Denise. The actual piece of wood that was eventually used was not shaved off. I did not want to go back and re-shoot the video. The finished wood was solid. Thanks for your question.

    Thank you for fyi pivot wheel system, does the wheel assembly get wore out when pushing down, out and under the stationary pin? Like if such wearing out happened, did new updated improvement happened? Or did not wear happened because of the flat metal circle rings ("washers"?**) protect it from wearing out?

    I have a HEAVY 4' X 8' x 8' coop/run combo I want to add wheels to but I'm assuming I will have to use metal instead of wood because of the weight?

    • @MulcahyHomesteadingProject
      @MulcahyHomesteadingProject  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Diane Richardson Hi Diane - You certainly can use metal. The wood frame still works well for me. My tractor is 2'Hx5'Wx10'L. Putting the wheels on one end of the tractor does not put the entire weight of the tractor on the wheels or wheel base. If you use the lift/pull method of moving your tractor like I do on the video, you will be lifting much of that weight yourself. It really comes down to how much your coop weighs. I hope this helps. Thanks for your question!!

    Where is the project located and how many acres do you have? Just watched all your videos and i have to say you have a beautiful piece of land. Can't do much outside since we are still buried under couple feet of snow up here in Canada for at least a month and a half.

    • @MulcahyHomesteadingProject
      @MulcahyHomesteadingProject  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      mathieu1881 We are in Alabama. We currently have 4.75 acres with the hopes in the coming months to add 4 more to it. Thanks for the comment and I hope you soon get dug out of the snow. We have no idea what that's like down here.

    Thank you for the good video. where is pivot point height wise to the wheel center and stationary pin. It looks lower but do not recall you mentioning it as reviewing video. Would it be the height of the 2 2x4's lower than the wheel center and stationary pin?

    • @MulcahyHomesteadingProject
      @MulcahyHomesteadingProject  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The stationary pin is on the same plane as the center of wheel and pivot. It may be a touch lower on the tractor simply because I was probably very lazy that day and 'eyed' it but technically it is supposed to be on the same plane. Thanks for your comment and watching the video. Many blessings.

      Mulcahy Homesteading Project Thank you very much. I did exactly that and was fine. My parts were different as used what was on hand like the small wheels off my old broken air compressor. Used 1 by 3 for handle and it is a little flimsy but works well. The coop itself was used for holding cardboard in our recycling business. Thinking about using pneumatic tires and maybe 4 tires for all corners. Probably overkill but can get them at harbor freight for around $6. Your video is very professional and very clear which helped someone like me that has to do it to really understand. Got some soda trays for free from a small grocer for laying baskets. They are a hard plastic and has mostly holes in bottom so waste can drain and not accumulate as well as clean easily. If I can figure out how to send a picture will send it. Thank you for your time and fast response.

    i have heavy 4X4 wood poles off old swing set for my frame. you think the lawn mower wheels may get stuck in ground due to weight?? i was thinking about fat tires off of an old trycyle my kids outgrew

    • @MulcahyHomesteadingProject
      @MulcahyHomesteadingProject  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +infadel13 I used a 4x4 frame/structure too. The high-wheels work fine for me. I could see a scenario where the ground could be too soft and the weight of the tractor get bogged down. However, I have not had any issues as of yet with this and I do live in a pretty soft area. I actually moved my tractor 2 days ago from one part of my property to another (about 1000 feet) and it rolled just fine. I think your fat tires would work for you as it's the concept that works and not necessarily the type of wheels. Good luck and thanks for the comment. I hope this helps.

  • @niecieyukiye6654
    @niecieyukiye6654 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    How much does your tractor weigh approximately. Any idea what the max weight is that this would lift?

    • @MulcahyHomesteadingProject
      @MulcahyHomesteadingProject  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Denise Samson Hi Denise. I actually made my tractor a bit sturdier than needed. It's a 10Lx5Wx2H. I used 4x4s at the corners but I could have gotten by with just using 2x4s. The 4x4s made it heavier than I wanted. However, the high wheels I used with the lift system on this video works well. The overall weight is probably around 75-100lbs.

    Protection from night varments from under neath the coop?

    • @MulcahyHomesteadingProject
      @MulcahyHomesteadingProject  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I actually shot nails around the bottom perimeter of the tractor. This keeps animals from digging under. Also, around the area where the hardware cloth is I shot nails on the bottom middle and top to keep animals from jumping on top to try to get in that way. It works very well. The only negative to that is it lessens the strength of the board and I have had to replace a section on the bottom. However, that is worth losing chickens to coyotes and foxes. Thanks for your comment.

    • @jrob8764
      @jrob8764 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great idea how far do the nails need to protrude , I think this should work with a stationary coop if I had them a couple of inches under ground to keep someone from stumping their toe on them. Or lay board over them then the critters digging would move the board and expose the nails.
