I always find it crazy how this show is based on true events like I can’t believe people like this exists in real life. Bullying is very extreme in Asian culture so it’s sad to see how common these things are but i’m glad there’s shows like this bringing it to light. Putting that aside the young bully actor is an amazing actor like her eyes really express how crazy her character is
Yeah she's actually the protagonist in revenge of others. And the girl who plays young eun dong is also amazing she's the young girl in parasite movie.
@@AliaAlisah My kdrama right before The Glory was Revenge of Others, so I was really surprised to see Shin Ye-eun doing a 180 with her role as young Park Yeon-jin. Whole time I was watching Revenge of Others, I just wanted to give Shin Ye-eun's character, Ok Chan-mi a hug, and then I was so repulsed by her character here. Solid acting. Same with the actress for young Dong-eun.

Don't worry, in real life after burning even the teaching staff was severely punished for their lack of action and somehow the victim menaged to stay bright alonside friends till today, she even made an appearence on Korean TV show were he was telling her story. Kinda sad it was.
Lee Do Hyun, the male lead here, is one of the finest korean actors I've seen. Sweet Home, Youth of May, 18 again, Hotel Del Luna... you'll love his acting skills in each of his dramas. 💝💝💝💝
Facts that he's one of the finest have been itching for him to be in a show like this and end up the way he did near the end ( I'll say that not to spoil) I hope we see so much more of him like that in season 2😂
I almost couldn't watch the first episode ngl but it is a great show can't wait to the next season, after hearing that the bullying part is actually a true story of a person who was bullied and she had her skin all burned it made me so sad.

The curling iron incident is actually a real bullying case in the early 2000s in South Korea. And the worst part is that the perpetrators didn't get any type of sentence or even a criminal record for that matter 😡
I went to Korea for a bit (study abroad program) and the amount of bullying that I witnessed was insane. The first time I remember seeing one, was when my international friends and I were about to start walking to our respective host family's home and as we were heading out of the school, we heard a bunch of noise and cries while passing the men's bathroom, so of course we checked, and there was this poor underclassmen getting his head dunked under the sink full of water by three upperclassmen. We stepped in of course. We only had one guy friend so he did most of the physical altercation, the rest of us girls tried to step in, got hit in the process too 😭 and once we started making more of a ruckus that's when the teachers finally came. And guess who got in trouble?? Us three girls for entering the men's bathroom 😭😭 The bullies got a "warning", whatever that meant, and the poor guy just moved to a different school by the next week. We then got told (more like "threatened") that our visa would be in "trouble" if we intervened and caused a ruckus like that on school grounds again
i recently saw the interview of the real victim of the glory. it was traumatizing..how can somebody do this to others😭😭😭she even showed her burns..she must be in so much agony
Small detail, but the little girl who plays the bully's daughter is also the child actress who plays young Woo Young Woo. I remember when I started The Glory sitting there wondering "where the hell do I know this child from?!" LOL all this time she's baby WYW, and I'm sure other things I haven't seen yet.
Honestly the first episode is the hardest. I had to pause it like 4 times cause I kept crying but you do get the story as to why she is going to start her revenge. After the first episode, it gets so good
Just watched it, goodness it was amazing 😭 The plot was never boring, the pace was on point it was not too slow nor too fast. It was a simple concept of manipulating all of them, then pulling them like strings then attaching them, a single finishing move that was effecting the whole antagonists. When I say an empowered female lead, I mean her 😩 Shes the exact powerful female character I love. Her cliche cold personality actually made it way better. Props to the actors and actresses!!
In 6th grade, I was slapped by a male student bigger than me. My parents came to school and when they left, the teacher asked me "did the slap hurt so much for you to whine to your parents?", I had never felt more hurt.

Guess what they want are tamed students who are easy to deal with rather than genuinely nice and intelligent students who may pose a threat to their authorities.

14:25 Because at that time, all the teachers in that place hit the students to some extent, so they probably thought that sometimes, there may be occasions where hitting students is necessary as part of their education. It is absolutely unacceptable now, but it used to happen frequently 15 ~ 20 years ago.
This drama is inspired by a true story, a high school girl was bullied in south Korea in 2006, and what's even sadder is that they toned it down in the drama for the viewers.
Fun fact: 1) RJ is right, the guy who u guys have seen before is indeed the leader-glasses guy in "Sweet Home"!! He's actually expected to return into the series SH 2 by many fans since the story suggested that he might survive; but his team (& SH's team) already confirmed that he won't join the cast bcz of a schedule conflict. And guess what? It's bcz he's busy with this (The Glory) series... Good call, since he gains so much here ❤ 2) The child actress who played the villain's daughter is the same kid who acted as the young Woo Youngwoo (yes, ur beloved Attorney Woo) 3) Bullying with the hair curling iron is real. I mean it really happens in SK, even a victim came in a talk show to share her story & asked for an advice whether she should seek for revenge like The Glory or not (this is not really a fun fact)
I can’t watch that burning scene without crying omg (the fact it’s based off a true story hurts even more) not to mention the acting from the young actor in that scene, her screams were so painful and realistic to listen to😭😔
This show is so disturbing but so good!! Can't wait for part 2 in a week or so!! Also not sure if yall noticed but the little girl is the same girl that played Attorney Woo in the flashbacks :)
I wanted to finish this show before you guys started it, but I started the first episode and it was so hard to watch I couldn't finish it. Now I'm going to give it a go again. Hope you guys enjoy!
The bully's daughter was little "Woo Young Woo". I recognized her voice before her face. Bullying is such a bad issue in Korea and physical punishment was normal until a few years ago.

When I first saw this, I had to fast forward through all of the flashback. They did not hold back on the details. But it also made us viewers want to see them destroyed all the more.
each time i watch Asians dramas with bullying scenes I’d remember how bad it actually happens. One time in our university, a video of a girl being kicked around by a group of boys spread amongst group chats, it happened on our university park. Unfortunately, big universities would try their hardest to bury such dark truth. Nothing came of it and every video evidence were deleted. These happened post pandemic and it still haunts me. They were kicking her head and making her stand up, I remember her as the taekwondo athlete, and she was trying her best to fight but she was outnumbered what seemed like taekwondo players also, seeing how strong their kicks were. I still wonder where she is and how she’s doing.
Good point, the main character is trying to change the cycle for the daughter and yes if it happens, it's gonna poetic. The drama itself is written in poetic way. That's good one!

The writer of this, Kim Eun-sook, is excellent. She has written quite a few dramas, but I'd particularly recommend Mr. Sunshine and my personal favourite, Dokkaebi (or, Guardian: The Lonely and Great God) starring Gong Yoo (from Train to Busan).
It was common in the past for school teachers to hit students. Both male and female teachers used violence. In the past, teachers were like parents in Asian culture. Didn't Jackie Chan often watch movies that fit his master? It is true in the past that teachers unfasten their watches and hit students with sticks,bats or punch. However, Korea banned such bad habits about 20 years ago. So now, there is a social problem that students mock and ignore teachers due to the side effects.

i absolutely loved this show and i’m so excited for part 2!! i love dark things like this however this show was a bit hard to watch at times. it’s sad to know that the curling iron story is based on a real experience. i think you will really like this show!

Honestly the first episode is the hardest. I had to pause it like 4 times cause I kept crying but you do get the story as to why she is going to start her revenge. After the first episode, it gets so good
This is why I was hesitating watching the drama cause I know this happens in real life to people.
Just watched it, goodness it was amazing 😭 The plot was never boring, the pace was on point it was not too slow nor too fast. It was a simple concept of manipulating all of them, then pulling them like strings then attaching them, a single finishing move that was effecting the whole antagonists.
When I say an empowered female lead, I mean her 😩 Shes the exact powerful female character I love. Her cliche cold personality actually made it way better.

It is absolutely unacceptable now, but it used to happen frequently 15 ~ 20 years ago.
This drama is inspired by a true story, a high school girl was bullied in south Korea in 2006, and what's even sadder is that they toned it down in the drama for the viewers.
Fun fact:
1) RJ is right, the guy who u guys have seen before is indeed the leader-glasses guy in "Sweet Home"!! He's actually expected to return into the series SH 2 by many fans since the story suggested that he might survive; but his team (& SH's team) already confirmed that he won't join the cast bcz of a schedule conflict. And guess what? It's bcz he's busy with this (The Glory) series... Good call, since he gains so much here ❤
2) The child actress who played the villain's daughter is the same kid who acted as the young Woo Youngwoo (yes, ur beloved Attorney Woo)
3) Bullying with the hair curling iron is real. I mean it really happens in SK, even a victim came in a talk show to share her story & asked for an advice whether she should seek for revenge like The Glory or not (this is not really a fun fact)
I can’t watch that burning scene without crying omg (the fact it’s based off a true story hurts even more) not to mention the acting from the young actor in that scene, her screams were so painful and realistic to listen to😭😔

The bully's daughter was little "Woo Young Woo". I recognized her voice before her face. Bullying is such a bad issue in Korea and physical punishment was normal until a few years ago.

each time i watch Asians dramas with bullying scenes I’d remember how bad it actually happens. One time in our university, a video of a girl being kicked around by a group of boys spread amongst group chats, it happened on our university park. Unfortunately, big universities would try their hardest to bury such dark truth. Nothing came of it and every video evidence were deleted. These happened post pandemic and it still haunts me.
They were kicking her head and making her stand up, I remember her as the taekwondo athlete, and she was trying her best to fight but she was outnumbered what seemed like taekwondo players also, seeing how strong their kicks were. I still wonder where she is and how she’s doing.

The writer of this, Kim Eun-sook, is excellent. She has written quite a few dramas, but I'd particularly recommend Mr. Sunshine and my personal favourite, Dokkaebi (or, Guardian: The Lonely and Great God) starring Gong Yoo (from Train to Busan).

Didn't Jackie Chan often watch movies that fit his master? It is true in the past that teachers unfasten their watches and hit students with sticks,bats or punch.

가해자의 아버지는 검찰청의 검사로 근무하고 있었고, 어머니 집안은 국회의원을 지낸 외할아버지가 8천억원이 넘는 자산을 보유하였다고 전해진다.
가해자는 언어폭력과 따돌림등으로 피해자를 괴롭히다가 강제전학조치를 받았으나, 아버지의 사법적 지위와 지식, 어머니의 재력을 활용해 대법원까지 가는 동안 재판과정 동안(소송에 필요한 금전적인 피해도 예상됨) 가해자를 괴롭히면서도, 자신의 아들인 가해자의 학생기록부에 대학입시에 불리한 내용이 기록되는 것을 최대한 늦추려는 전략으로 진행하였고, 결국 피해자는 학교를 그만두게 되었다고 전해졌다.
나중에서야 가해자는 비록 다른 학교로 전학하게 되었으나, 결국 가해자는 한국에서 가장 좋은 대학으로 알려진 서울대학교에 진학하게 되었다고 알려졌다. 어떠한 전공으로 대학에 진학하게 되었는데, 아버지가 가해자인 아들을 로스쿨에 진학시켜 법조인으로 만들려고 한게 아니냐는 추측도 있다.
이 사실이 왜 지금 한국에서 크게 주목받는가하면, 가해자의 아버지(검찰출신)인 인물이 경찰청 국가수사본부장으로 임명(검찰이 경찰의 수사를 지휘할 수 있었는데, 검찰의 권력을 경찰에게 당연하게 돌려주는걸 법안으로 통과되었는데, 정권이 바뀌면서 수사지휘권을 검찰이 되찾기 위해 경찰청 국가수사본부장에 검찰출신을 임명한게 아니냐는 논란도 있음.)되면서 주목받기 시작했는데...! 현재 법무장관(검찰출신)이 이 인물에 대해 인사검증의 책무가 있고, 대통령실의 공직기강 비서관(검찰출신, 간첩 사건의 증거를 조작한 혐의가 있는걸로 알려짐)도 이 인물에 대해 인사검증의 책무가 있으나, 제대로 검증을 거치지도 않은채 임명된게 아니냐는 것이 논란의 시작이었고, 이미 몇 년 전에 이 학교폭력이 뉴스에서 보도되었던 일이 있었으나, 인사검증의 책무를 가진 자들은 핑계만 늘어놓고 있는 상황이다.

그리고 한국은 오래전부터 2000년대 초중반까지는 학교선생들이 '교육'이라는 이름으로 학생에게 폭력을 가하는 일이 제법 많았고, 시간이 지날수록 사라져가긴 했지만 선생들이 학생의 부모에게 돈이나 사치품등을 요구하는 일도 제법 있는 편이었다. 학생인권을 강조하기 시작하면서 그러한 일이 거의 사라져갔지만 , 요즘은 반대로 학생들이 선생들에게 폭력을 가하거나 성희롱을 하는 사건이 가끔 뉴스에 보도되는 일이 있다.
