Why I bought a Bad Boy mower over the Kubota, Spartan xMark, John Deere, or Country Clipper.

I am in the process of shopping for a new mower. Like you, I have an old one that has served me for a long time but instead of 7 years, mine has been mowing for me for 57 years! It is a Bolens 1050 garden tractor with a 42" deck. Everything runs fine but the engine is so worn that it takes forever and now the oil is leaking bad. After getting a new mower I plan to rebuild the old engine as a "thank you" for all the years of service. I have owned the Bolens since new.

I bought the same mower ( Maverick HD 60" and engine) last Wednesday 25 Jul. 23 and haven't had any problems yet (probably jinxed myself). I have only mowed 5 acres with it and like it a lot, this is a upgrade from a 2 yr old MZ Magnum which I still use and also like. The only problems I've had with it is the right front wheel bearing went out after the 1st yr of use and the gas guage didn't last 6 months, however, it is a great mower otherwise and the reason I stuck with Bad Boy Mowers. The seat on the Maverick HD is like going from a VW bug to a Rolls Royce, I love it. I hope we both have great service from our new mowers. Thanks for the great farm video, brings back memories of my youth growing up on the farm (75 now). Have a great day and an even greater tomorrow.

I think you made a good decision . I have a bad boy elite for 9 years now and no problems. I also have a spartan HD 61 inch for two years. The spartan key pad is junk, I hate it and will never buy another spartan mower. The parking brake is junk and the spindle bolts get loose so often that I ended up tack welding them so they would not back off. Thanks for your video

I believe I’ve had a Bad Boy for bout 13 years. I don’t even look at the fuel gauge. But that’s the only issue I’ve had. After 10 years I had to replace some bearings & bushings. My kids run it & they are really tuff on equipment. Very simple mower but that’s what I like about it.

I have a toro groundsmaster 54 that was built about 1979. Bought it in 1989 for $100, with a snow blower. Had to fix the steering and replace a belt. Still have the mower and it still performs like day one. GREESE ZIRTS! EVERYWHERE. It has a cast iron 16hp briggs. Spent $250 15 years ago to have that engine rebuilt. Wonderfull mower.

I’ve operated a few ZT Mowers and my priorities start with a quality seat, then an easy lift deck with pedal to lift over the gravel road or the hose or the clump that has bunched at the front or to avoid scouring whilst turning. Having a dealer close is invaluable! Didn’t think the a fuel gauge would matter until I one that didn’t have one. Ensure the your mower will pass your gates. ZTs are fantastic machines but some are better than others. Perhaps pedal lift is number one!

More Bad Boys because they’ve been in business much longer. Spartan is an Intimidator product - Intimidator makes the UTVs, not Bad Boy. Bad Boy tractors are made overseas and “assembled” in the US.

I just bought a Rogue. The tank showed about half full. I ran it for an hour or so and it was down close to empty. I only had about 4 gallons so I put that in it and it was back up to half. The tank on the Rogue is 13 gallons so it is clearly not a linear tank. Looking at the way they stuff the tanks into the sides, it make sense. It is just something to get used to. I'll try running it out one day with a known amount of fuel and see where that leaves me.

    Toro bought out Spartan
    Toro owns ExMark
Toro is trying to split off their Toro and Exmark mowers lines so they’re unique and not just rebranded.
Not sure if this only applies to ExMark or also Toro, but they were built in Mexico and moved to the US. In the US the workers sucked, quality nosedived and they have or are moving manufacturing back to Mexico.
I’ve been looking for my next mower. I was originally looking at the Maverick HD. But I really want the rear suspension of the Rogue so that’s where I’m strongly leaning. Looked at Spartan for a short time recently. They look absolutely awesome however like you said that keypad is a well known issue. I love the idea of the keypad with its diagnostic features but it’s probably not worth the headache.

No way. I didn't realize Toro bought Spartan (Intimidator). Well, there goes Spartan off my list now. Toro/eXmark/Scag can go rest on their reputations and go out of business for all I care. Now add Spartan to the do-not-buy list.
Now, it's Bad Boy Rogue or Hustler Hyperdrive... though, I wish Country Clipper would get out of their hole and actually innovate some more. At least add features every year.

I've owned a ZT Elite with the kawasaki motor since August of 2016. I have had zero issues with this mower other than the roll over fuel Interruptor because it started leaking. I've replaced the battery once. I use badboy blades, I sharpen my blades regularly. I also own a American blade sharpening jig and I balance the blades. I only use non ethanol fuel. I only use kawasaki oil.
This is my first zero turn mower and I'm extremely pleased with machine.

Have owned my Bad Boy Maverick HD for two years now.. 54” deck with Honda engine. No issues. Would buy it again. Previous mowers have always been John Deere. Last one was a X345R. Quality was going down with Deere over the years. Way too much money for what they give you. You will be very happy with your choice.

  • @Downshiftfarms
    @Downshiftfarms  ปีที่แล้ว +12

The jury is still out, I've obviously had an issue with the belt. The fuel ran out showing a half tank and the dealer says it has the wrong petcock on it and they think that I only ran out on one of the tanks, BUT I filled both sides and when I ran out, I filled BOTH back up, so I know that the petcock pulls from both sides. I couldn't get the mower to restart after running out and the dealer says it was bad gas but I filled a Honda pressure washer with the same gas and it's running fine. I plan on doing a follow up video in the near future when I get this sorted out.

I've ran just about every mower brand available. Bad Boy did Robert Foster wrong, so he broke away and created the Intimidator group, which produces Spartan. There he made the changes he wanted to see and pushed on as Spartan. They are definitely the NKOTB but there mowers are incredible, especially given the cost. I have owned an RZ61, RTHD, and now own a KGXD 3754, this thing is a mowing machine. Just like in cars, there are brand loyalists and those dedicated to a permanent smear campaign against any brand they don't like. Bad Boy is a great mower and they should always be at the top of the estate owners list. Just a bit of hyperbole for insight, SCAG went through a stretch of cracked welds in the frames, My Grasshopper blew an engine at 840 hours, also had a drive failure. My Exmark ate 2 pto's and lost a stator at 152 hours. My Bush Hog MK25 was fantastic but ate spindle bearings. My Ever Ride Scorpion blew a head gasket at 1100 hours and was hard on belts and my first Spartan caused my hands to go numb. All of them can and will have issues. Buy what you want.

“Made in USA” doesn’t mean jack shit. Because the employees don’t give a crap.
KZ camper. Pick any Thor industry product. The workmanship is crap.
Ford, GM and ram pickups are the same. Some aren’t bad, some are mediocre. Every make of vehicle we’ve owned has had safety recalls on them that can’t be ignored.
You see it in welded attachment for skid steers.
My 2020 and 2021 XL specialized trailers are another example. The wiring on the 2020 main trailer is pretty decent. The 2021 flip axle, whole different ball game. Two winters later I’m looking at having to replace the flip axle wiring harness because of the shoddy workmanship using the exact same parts for Grote. Lack of zip ties, dielectric grease ets.

Next time, please put the camera or mic closer to you, nix the chicks, and do it somewhere that the wind isn't blowing. Didn't get much out of this video unfortunately. Good effort, but I have to give you a D- for a grade.

Advise avoid badboy. They have the worst customer service (out of Arkansas) that you can imagine. Absolutely no checks and balances from corporate as to how they handle customer complaints. Calls are not recorded and there are only five people who answer the phone. Galvin is main guy and very rude. Imagine how that trickles down.

Not saying you are wrong but service issues on mowers tractors cars boats etc are handled by the dealers not the manufacturer. Anyone that knows anything about tractors mowers etc will tell you to buy from the best dealer because equipment needs serviced and the equipment is only as good as the dealer.

Between you talking so low and the wind and the chickens and roosters and you talking so low and the WIND you are impossible to hear most everything you are saying!!!!! So there is not really any point in watching your video!!! Maybe you should review your content before you edit and post it, just saying!! Not much information when you can't hear it!!! Go inside away from the wind, chickens, rosters and learn to talk before you make any more videos, PLEASE, it sounds like you may have some useful info. but we can't hear it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
