Very informative video. One note- another increasingly common cause is iron infusion for the treatment of anemia. It can increase renal wasting, leading to hypophosphatemia that is usually mild and transient, but can be more severe and concerning. That's why I have it.

I just had my second iron infusion and this was not explained to me. They used injectafer. Was there a particular infusion you used or a certain number of sessions?

I came here to say the same thing. The narrator failed to mention that iron infusions (especially from Injectafer) are known to cause hypophosphatemia. If you feel worse after your Injectafer infusion go and have your phosphorus levels checked asap. Injectafer causes “renal wasting,” and you’ll have to start taking oral Rx phosphorus supplements asap.

I’ve been struggling with my breathing and my phosphate levels were 0.34! Prescribed phosphate supplements, raised to 0.78 and one of my Dr’s was happy with this but said breathing isn’t a sign of this and was happy to leave me as it is. I’m still struggling with my breathing so I hope this works this time! I don’t drink alcohol and have a well balanced diet!

I received a kidney transplant in September and two months later I am now having low phosphorus and magnesium levels. My phosphorus is at 1.5 and magnesium is at 1.4. So watching this was very helpful.

What your doctor won't tell you is Tacrolimus, Proton Pump Inhibitors, and Diuretics will limit the absorption of Magnesium. Youd' be lucky if they even mention you have a low serum magnesium levels.
I lost my kidenys to IgA nephropathy and have had a transplant.
I know know it was preventable with dietary changes although most doctors only care about useless drug therapies and 99% won't even entertain the notion that chronic progressive disease can be cured with diet alone.

I would guess the new kidney is receiving signalling to excrete phosphate, as high phosphate is what you don't want with ckd.

Just checked foods that contain aluminium, that is a lot of food. From elsewhere I read. Tea leaves, cocoa, spices and some herbs, cereals and cereal based foods (e.g. bread, rice, cakes, biscuits and pastries), some vegetables (e.g. mushrooms, spinach, radish and lettuce), and dairy and soya products. It is even in water to a small extent.

Thank you so much for this! I was just reviewing old labs and always had low serum phosphate. Have a very interesting arrhythmia with lots of numbness and tingling. I have a been being diagnosed with cardiac neuropathy because no one can figure out what’s wrong. I think I might’ve stumbled upon the cold for it so this is an easy fix I hope.

Most would likely end up with the opposite problem. Followed by a cascade that ends up with some level of ckd induced calcified heart valves.

Recently had a low level. But I eat lots of things that include phosphates (milk, cheese, meat). Doctor asked me to take a phosphate supliment. Based on watching this and family history of chrones I have chosen to add a vitamine d tablet to help absorbtion. A high ESR means I will test again in a few months. Will be interested to see how this changes.

Thank you for your work. I'd really like to show this to my past doctors who constantly challenged my diagnosis until I proved that I had been diagnosed by Doctors Bilezikian and Van Buren, from NY Columbia and UCLA, respectively. I still struggle with muscle weakness and I have difficulty convincing by present docs to do regular bone scan. I've had to buy my own PHOS-Nak powders in the past, but now have a script for the capsules. At 64, I was diagnosed at 35 after radiation for Graves Disease, I'm still struggling with keeping fit. I wasn't aware of the brain involvement. Can depression that hasn't responded to treatment be part of my health drama?

I appreciate your video. I'm dealing with refeeding syndrome and this video educated me a lot which will help me treat my condition more successfully~ One question though. Of the little nutrition I am able to put in my body without throwing up, I usually drink about 2-4 cups of chocolate milk a day. Not pre mixed. Does it have to be skim? I mean if it has to be I'll drink it but skim milk is just so nasty. Like I don't wanna die but skim milk tastes pretty bad y'all~

Where do the physicians who diagnose these things live? On TH-cam only?
Also, the elephant in the room is the fact that blood tests do not show everything. I have low phosphorus on my hair test and low iron as well and feel like crap. Did I say that my iron on my blood test was fine? It was worst before I used some homeopathic remedies.

Iron issues is almost never low iron itself but another deficiency that works with iron, copper being a main one, and I believe there are some b deficiencies that can cause anemia symptoms. Iron is one of the most abundant minerals on earth and in our food
