I switched to OEM Manual Handle on my 2019 F-150 Limited tailgate, I replaced the original wiring harness with a XLT Tailgate Wiring Harness JL3Z-14A412-C. I installed a Chrome Tailgate Handle JL3Z-9943400-GB. Installed short OEM Rod FL3Z-9922152-A to chrome manual handle. I also installed a Manual Latch/Actuator HC3Z9943170C Camera and LED light are the same, I swapped them over to new manual handle, the two long rods that connect to latch/actuator are the same. Everything works, Camera, the tailgate locks and unlocks as before.
Came across this video looking for information on the tailgate functionality after this recall was done on my 2019 F150. There seems to be conflicting information on whether the tailgate latch can be operated while the ignition is on or not. While running mine will not open with the remote or the button on the tailgate no matter how many times you push it. The paperwork with the owner's manual addendum that was left in my truck says nothing about the ignition having to be off for the tailgate to open. There are multiple forum posts from people who say theirs will not open and the dealer says it’s normal. My dealership claims to have done dozens of them and I’m the only one that has contacted them after about it not opening while running. You have commented it should still work when running. I do appreciate that you showed most of what is done to make the repair. Since posting this video and reading comments have you tested one while running to see if the tailgate would open? If you confirm it should still work while running then I can double-check the connections they made based on your video. The dealership is telling me to just drop off it and they will see what they can do but they can’t get to it till almost October.
We tested them after doing the recall. Worked with it running. You had to hit the button on the tailgate twice. Or the button on the remote twice. But you said it doesn't work after they did it. No matter how many times it's pushed. I would take it back to them. I never had one come back for this problem after the recall was performed. Email me your VIN. I can look to see if they put out a special service message for people having this problem.
Solution is to take everything apart and put everything back together using parts that function.. with a seal/thick dielectric grease and a tiny bit of conductive oil coating on the pins
@@DeVoNmotorsports just doing what the recall says to do. Can't just tske it apart and put it back together when it's under warranty. Certain protocols. And recall. Certain protocols
I have a major issue with my electrical tailgate and the electrical system is going crazy. It's part of the customer satisfaction program 21M05 supplement 1. 2. 3. 4. Tailgate started opening on its own all the time. Truck on or off driving idol didn't matter. After some major rain truck turned into a Christmas tree lights going off blinking honking tailgate opening and the middle of the night. The truck is at the dealership right now they are trying to get Ford too pay for the fixed after the diagnosis. My question is with this water issue entering the tailgate and in corroding and shorting out the connectors in wiring harness, would that affect all these other exterior electrical issues? Also, when you push the little button in the tail bed it opened the tailgate so everything is shorted out. This is for my 2017 f250 super duty. I also have the customer satisfaction program 20M04 regarding moisture in water entering power lock so in other words, the truck has water entering everywhere and messing with the electrical. If you have experienced dealing with this, can you let me know what steps need to be done because I feel like I'm getting the run around
Water intrusion into the power box under the hood is a major issue. Sets all sorts of lights and codes. The tailgate issue has to be done under the recall. And its not fun to do. Did they check the battery junction box? The one under the hood that gets water in it? I've come a cross a lot of them that get water in it and they go crazy.
@@BeardedFordTech yeah ford uses a gear spring on the right side under the right tail light . Mine is a gas piston on the left side. Slow once it gets around 25° and forcing gate down will break the plastic pin clip- just screw on new one.
Can you guys post the rest of the recall please. My co worker had one and now he got a shit load of DTCs on. He's keeps bugging me for help and i never did one so IDK where he F'd up at.
That's basically it. If he has a bunch of DTC's I'd be checking in the body control module. Or at the camera where you splice in. Do you know what the codes are? Shoot me an email with as much info as possible please.
@@BeardedFordTech He figured it out. It was for a blind spot module. He forgot he changed the light bulb the day before and forgot to plug it back in. Thanks for the offer, I will keep you in mind when im completely stuck on something. Been at Dodge for 5 years, pretty much smooth transition to Ford so far.
Did you ever get a resolution to this. Mine is just like yours. The dealership says that is just the way it is but I’ve on forums that this isn’t true. I wonder if you were able to get it fixed or not. The dealership told me it wasn’t possible.
For the love of God , I'm glad I have a manual operated on my 21. When I'm too old to pull a handle to open my tailgate I'm not driving anymore. 👍

@FloridaCoastalGuy and there's no codes in the BCM? That's cool that you did that. Now it won't open unintentionally.

I do. Even though it says not to and it's a weather connection. Just a light dab.

I had the 21m06 mod done on my 2020 f150. I can’t open the tailgate with the truck on. I have to turn the truck off first. It’s a real pain.

Added a piston months later on my’19 to slow down that gate slam
This one already has easy open tailgate. It doesn't slam down

This fixes the problem. No ypu can't concert to manual. There's a lock actuator and a camera in there

Just had this recall done on my 2020, now the tailgate wont open if the truck is running. Do you know what setting this is and how to correct it ?
Is it unlocked when running? If so then they didn't do something right. It's not a setting.
@@BeardedFordTech yes unlocked but won’t open either at the tailgate or using the fob unless you shut it off.
@@skinnnerrr yeah they got something wrong. The recall just keeps it from opening unintendedly.
Mine is the same, unlocked with engine running it will not open since the recall.
