I don’t get why Pokémon doesn’t create a masterpiece of a game. They have every resource to do it and they are the largest media franchise in the world.
Because exactly that. They are so big and massive that doesn't matter what they do. Kids and people who already love POkemon got literally 0 standard and don't care because "haHAAAA !! NEW POKEMON LOOK LIKE A CUTE SHEEP ! HAAAHAAAAAA KAWAI DESU !!!! WE WEEB GO BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR CUTE POKEMONS !!!!" And that's why Nintendo and GameFreak would NEVER put any effort into their games. They gonna keep reusing assets and reselling the same game year after year. It's a shame and broke my hearts because i love the franchise is a nostalgia trip for me and they just keep ignoring their flaws that had been there for over a decade now
Pokemon doesn't make its money on the games, they make most of the money off merchandise. They have 0 incentive to improve and every incentive to shove the same crap out every year
Frame drops and tearing are where I draw the line these days. Especially if you're developing for only one platform. This game should run just fine on that hardware given what it looks like.
there is other switch game "Open world" style which run better look better and as well as area doesn't look empty like this game hahaha I feel sad when I saw the game play
I typically defend Pokémon games and be as open-minded as possible. But this game’s frame rate and the bugs are downright unacceptable. The game has waaaay too many bugs to have been released.
@@Laughy-Flaaffy I’m pretty sure it’s because they set release dates arbitrarily, they didn’t wait until the game was finished but instead urged the devs to have it finished by the time ash beat Leon in the anime, and urged the animators to finish the anime before Black Friday and holiday spending season because it’s the moment they make the most sales. An executive must have had data suggesting the amount of people buying the game regardless of issues and the revenue made by the merchandise, pogo, etc pushed by the anime as well as the licensing was way better than record breaking sales in a switch game and postponing the rest of the franchise projects, think just how much they make in ctg and licencing for clothing and anime, the coin Pokemon in pogo etc, they don’t care if one product takes an l as long as the entire timeline goes on and they fix the issues around Christmas
It's just insane that the team behind breath of the wild released their game years ago. And this is the best that the pokemon team can do in modern time...
So I have heard this argument a lot. i think the what most people dont consider is just what is being loaded into the game. in this pokemon game there is a maximum of 15 pokemon loaded in at one time that you the player can see and interact with. Every single one of those pokemon are spawned in with a set nature, set IVs and the posiblity of being shiny. So as you are just walking around the world, pokemon are constently being despawned and new ones being spawned in. That is a lot of information that the game has to constently be loading. In comparison to the last pokemon game ledgends arceus, those pokemon spawns are set as soon as you arive in the area you go to, running through the area wont despawn any pokemon to allow new spawns to appear and the only way to get fresh spawns is to go to camp and move the day forward by sleeping or returning back to the vilage. I myself compleatly understand the frustration of playing a vidogame at 10 frams in 2022.
@@djslavin3140 I disagree honestly. The pokemon company does not operate the same way as EA or Take 2 or other heartless gaming companies. For instance, the CEO of the pokemon company is Tsunekazu Ishihara, who is one of the people who directly helped produce and develop the original pokemon games. I made a comment about this a bit in this video pointing out that the largest media franchise has to stick to its release date for the game in order for the other pillars of the franchise to continue. There is nothing else planned in the card game or anime for gen 8 and if they pushed back the release of this game then the card release and anime would get pushed back as well. you could definitely make the argument that postponing the game would still be beneficial for the pokemon company in the long run. This is just how I understand / rationalize such a poorly released game.
@@macnasty8300 i’m just saying that the expectation of a release on this schedule is unreasonable for the actual developers themselves and it’s not their fault they aren’t being given the amount of time they deserve.
I agree. Even Monster Hunter World looks Absolutely mesmerizing, and its 5 years old. However I did buy the game on Steam so my computer GPU can maximize the graphic quality in a higher state but even a switch it looks way better than pokemon. Just wish Pokemon Delayed for a year.
The lack of interiors is so annoying. That was always my favorite part of Pokémon. Going inside random ass people’s homes and buildings and reading and talking to people and objects made the games always feel like a real world.
@@quintessences they do it in all Pokémon titles and games and seasons and shows . It’s a world with fighting monsters that possess unimaginable powers and abilities used as house Pets. Walking into homes is the last thing I’d think is strange lol
Okay, but if TPC continues to give either team less than a year to develop, the Arceus sequel isn't gonna be an improvement over the first. You can't improve something using the same amount of resources.
@@Graphomite what are you even defending lmao? I’m more pointing out that S/V had nearly two years of development and even more over Arceus and still came out worse!
True, but they both had 3 years of development and I still think Arceus looks and plays marginally better than S/V. Also it's a shame they wen't back on the wild encounter formula in S/V. Arceus had finally got it right, you could choose to engange in battle or not, catch it right away or lure them with food, furthermore every Pokemon had some kind of personality as some of them would either run away or turn agressive as they detected you, this time around that was thrown out the window and they all feel the same.
They needed to wait. They needed to let the dust settle on Arceus and take all the notes on what worked so wonderfully about that game and apply them to this. It's such a step backward from Arceus despite still being fun. But Arceus really breathed life into the now-dessicated lungs of the franchise.
@@preemptivefaceplant5277 there's untextured areas, 2 FPS animation and awful lag whenever anything is on screen, but that's rare since there's rarely anything else on screen until it sees you and inconveniences your Hour by having to wait for the constant freezing to stop. Plus the menu bugs and freezes and crashes constantly, the sound design is horrible, there's still no voice acting. They released it far too early, all of the game breaking bugs and glitches and untextured areas just ruin it. Of course it perfectly fine if you want to enjoy the game it's just completely unplayable as of now, and the fact that it will get better and isn't fully completed right now is just so stupid. Yeah it will get better over time but why couldn't they have waited a few Months so it could be finished and playable with no bugs or crashes or framerate issues?? etc... Because they're lazy and just want money.
Agreed. Arceus was far from perfect but it worked. I kept saying that all I wanted from the next Pokemon was the Arceus formula + the traditional gyms and trainer battles. I would have been completely happy.
@@preemptivefaceplant5277 Constant glitches like falling through the environments and multiple hard crashes is NOT the sign of a game that's "amazing" and I'll bet you wouldn't be saying that if EA had made this.
@@CerealExperimentsMizuki its a nintendo problem not a game freak problem. Nintendo needs a stronger console. The game has constant pokemon spawning, what you think would happen? Saying the game is unplayable is a bit much. The framerate doesnt break the turn base system. Unlike having frame rates glitch in a fighting game or a game that has combat combos.
it still feels like gamefreak are putting love into these in my opinion- it just sucks that the pokemon company won't give more time and resources towards the actual games. I could be wrong but it feels like thats what holding it back more than anything as the ideas are all there, the execution just isn't quite working
It looks more like technical ineptitude than lack of passion. I think they stuck with the 2D/isometric view much longer than they should have. They should have been growing the 3D talent on their teams. These technical issues would've been sorted out 10 years ago.
The Love is in this game, its a Great game easily the BEST pokemon game ever made. If you're not a graphics crazed nut like apparently half the world is now then it really isnt an issue.
@Jack Procter they aren't putting any love into the game its a bug filled fps is horrible its a mess the old gamefreak games were fantastic they are just lazy now
@Raider_ Reaper_ no it's one of the worst games they have made the best would be heartgold and soul silver which are remakes of pokemon yellow came out in 2009 the most fantastic pokemon game of all time
I've seen other reviews on this game, but you guys showcased it better. I knew there were framerate issues and glitches, but this is far more worse than I originally anticipated. One would think that a developer and publisher would make sure their game is running at its best, especially when it's a flagship title of theirs.
Gamefreak Pokemon games have had tons of optimization issues, and in order to run a stable 30fps they need to make the graphics literal GameCube level. These devs are clearly not very well managed internally, and also not given much time to work these games from the Pokemon Company. Feels like the game is made for as cheap as possible despite making millions of dollars, its so toxic I dont even think a GameFreak game given 5 years of dev time would even be that amazing honestly, their non Pokemon games are also not great. But it would certainly be better than this, especially since these devs are certainly crunching to make these deadlines
Did anyone even notice that when there are status afflictions (like sleep), the pokemon doesnt even close their eyes? They just stand there, with eyes wide open, just with a sleep condition. Those sort of things are really doing it for me, however loving the game. I can see over the performance issues, but there are a lot of details that ONLY these games overlooked
another big issue I have is the multiplayer. like suddenly your friend turns invisible while you're walking, riding the legendary disconnect everyone from the group (even though their whole big thing in this game was the legendaries) for this very reason we had to ban riding our legendaries and now we have to walk everywhere, which surprisingly isn't the worst but it's still pretty annoying as you could imagine.
when you said the eating animations were bad, i was thinking to myself, "How bad can it be?" When i saw it, i literally laughed out loud! did not expect it to be that bad lol! thanks for the video! confirmed a lot of things for me ^^ thanks for the honest impressions and opinions
honestly, with legends arceus, i thought the games could only get better, but scarlet and violet leads me to think that its gonna take even more time for this to happen, i hope we're able to get more stuff like Legends arceus in the future and that this was only a test to see how everyone liked this style of game, but eh who knows
Seeing what they have done, i think the success of Legends Arceus was a fluke, they honestly don't seem to give a f about producing a decent game, also i bet that Terrestrial (don't know/care spelling) will be removed and replaced in the next game
People also called Sword and Shield a test when it was released. The only pokemon game on the Switch that is fun and interesting to play is Legends Arceus tbh and that game also felt like a test for future generations
Gamefreak have never been masters of optimization. I believe Sword and Shield were originally going to be on the 3DS and were built on an engine for the 3DS. However with Violet and Scarlet there is no excuses. I don't know why Arceus was so much better... It too was developed by Gamefreak. I winder if there's numerous development teams in Gamefreak ?
Imagine a Pokemon game where all of the gym leaders were actual threats with high level Pokemon, but with varied tactics and strategies. Would make it a much more interesting challenge to overcome them 🤔
Ive always asked for a hard difficulty settings like gen 5 did but without needing to finish the game first. Just have the setting open from the get-go.
Honestly, this concept right here is what got me into playing the Shin Megami Tensei games, which is basically Pokemon for adults (or at least adultier kids?).
Honestly no it wouldn't. Not unless it was made in the PS2/OG Xbox Era (even then it would be questionable). The problem is the complete lack of quality. Everything about the game just screams "IDGAF". It's not the graphics it's the textures, art, and complete lack of any depth. Indie games are passion projects and dev teams of any size pouring their souls into games and ensuring they achieve the best for what they CAN with their limited budget and size. They also don't rush games out to meet deadlines. Stardew valley was made by one person and it IS impressive because of the thought and passion put into it. It exceeds many AAA titles in terms of depth to character and world building and player experience. The game knew it couldn't offer any insane graphics so it specifically chose an art design that it could make look good. And again that was one person that just cared about the product they made.
I think they mean the game wouldn’t look anything like this. Here’s my interpretation: The game would have been okay tested and the people that made it would have taken years! They would have actually cared about it basically
@@mrtn1566 Though they often take either 10x longer to finish them and also they use already existing frameworks, with already finished Pokemon, finished assets and don't need to worry about ratings and reviews since they aren't being paid to make them.
I could give a pass to the graphical issues but an unstable frame rate is the most irritating thing to try and deal with. There's almost nothing worse than experiencing a nice open world just for things to grind to a halt and move in slo-mo. Hopefully they fix it

Actually, in the Pokemon legends Arceus, our main character have a voice when evading or jumping. I don't really understand why after many years, the Pokemon series still doesn't have any voice or sound in the conversation for just a little bit, but the Pokemon have their own voice in many situation. I hope one day they will have it.
For what it's worth personally I like the game more without voice acting lol, it's part of the charm. Pokemon is just one of those games that would sound weird with voice acting. Take that from someone who plays all kinds and genres of games all the time.
I love your honest opinion. You always try to search for good and positive aspects of the game. Even if this game has some flaws you also acknowledge the good things. Thank you!
Imagine BOTW, a 5+ year old game for the Wii U looking objectively better and running objectively better than this game, even with 10+ rapidly moving characters on screen at once....
It isn't possible when you have to meet a dead line inside of 3 years. You also have most game developers were trained on game engines so retraining them to code in C and nothing but C for the chips used on the hardware will take a lot of time. It also restricts what chips you can use to chips made to work with C unless you want to teach your developers more than 1 programming language to make a game in. Then you have when a bug happens where in the lines of code is it? C isn't that easy to debug but if you are using another chip that using an entirely different programming language then you will either 1 need an employee that can read then debug in both or have 2 that will work together and not blame 1 another for writing faulty code. The reason why APIs came into existence is how repetitive the code was was. Using a API puts more into RAM but it also reduces how big the code the programmer has to write will be. IDEs are good for programming as they can pick up on coding errors and help you find which line they were in. Thankfully they also don't impact the compile size of the code. Then you have game engines. They make the process of making a game even easier and possible to make 1 inside of 2 years. The main issue with game engines is the bigger size and the put that their run time has to be there. APIs are made to be small enough that they don't interfere with how much time the program will take to run nor take up to many resources to load into RAM. Game engines well it depends as each one seems to handle it in their own way.
The lack is interiors is the biggest draw back for me personally. In any RPG or even open world games I don't like being outside the entire time; I want to go inside and sit down in a chair sometimes.
I love the Let's Go feature, but the fact that your trainer out runs most Pokémon, and how when your Pokémon does return to you, it goes into the Pokéball and not just behind you, making you have to slow down and stop again just to send it back out really takes the fun out of it
Pure laziness. They know they could make a lackluster game and still sell record numbers. It's unfortunate because they are fully capable of making a great game.
@@tnuggyz this is the dumbest take. Lazy doesn’t apply to people who have no control over their deadlines. Management makes these decisions not developers.

Y’all nailed it. This, before doing empty open worlds they should make bigger routes with roaming pokemon to "tap" into that water. It would also not look lifeless, fixey the distance object popping and probably tons of performance issues.
It's really telling that SV is probably the first time where even the 'defenders' in these forum wars are acknowledging that the problems are real. Like there's really just no getting around that SV runs terribly. And you can hear the pain in some of these messages from people who're ready to (even blindly) love these games like they always do with Pokemon, but even they're pausing and hesitating here. I am one of those guys, i really really love pokemon games, all of them.I even enjoyed Pokémon sword and shield which everyone hated. But this, this is just sad. @@naqibfarhan4356 agreed. If they knew it would have a terrible framerate and look like something out of the 90s (which I am sure game testers would have told them about) then they should have downscaled the map and added a more in-depth story and/or at least added some detailed interiors
@@Trex10100 No, it's a software problem. These games aren't releasing on any platform other than Switch. There are games that've been *ported* to the Switch that run better than this. If those games can run better, is the excuse for Pokemon really that the Switch isn't 'powerful enough' to run it? I don't think so. They simply didn't prioritize getting the game to run well on the platform it was designed for, and/or didn't have enough development time to achieve it. Plenty of other games have managed to do it, including games that are open-world like these are.
@@qactustick You people no nothing about tech. Glitches are a software problem, framerate drops is a hardware problem. The software can only run if the hardware is up-to-date. You're talking about ported open-world games that doesn't spawn multiple enemies in and out with varied differences. There's at least 10-16 pokemon spawning on screen at a time(different sizes, natures, stat spreads, ect) per biodome(lakes and grasslands while in the same area have sperate spawns) compared to a game like neir automa. Where you fight like 6 robots with no shields with the same health bars that don't respawn until you comeback to the area. Then when you progress in the story they'll be replaced with 3 of the tall robots and 4 flying ones.
Confused at the fact that they didn’t adopt more from arceus, even if they just mimicked the art style, also I find when you start a battle with a wild mon it seems to be a bit slow before the battle starts
I think (much like Disney did with Beauty and the Beast back in the day) Game Freak didn't think Legends would do well, so outsourced it to their B team. That's why much of the good stuff is missing here. They were also partly developed in tandem. I'm still enjoying casually playing Legends, but refuse to buy either of these games. Much as I want my wee buddies running around beside me in 3D, Violet and Scarlet are horrible unfinished
Its not really that confusing when you understand the timeline of game development and how dysfunctional GameFreak likely is internally (partially, but not entirely due to, the release schedule)
Agreed. Feels like they took a big step forward with Arceus just to take a gigantic step backward with this...thing. It's hard to even call this a game.
I really do like the concept of the world. I would've given it a chance if not for these glaring performance issues. And the graphics despite being the most basic of any Switch game, still causes performance issues? How did they manage that? Gamefreak REALLY needs to hire someone who has experience making and optimizing an open world. Maybe then will the graphics improve as the performance improves.
This is exactly it. If an ambitious game comes out using Unreal 5 and RTX but has bugs, its understandable, but GF have been making these basic, cartoony, super unambitious games for like 5yrs now since the Switch came out and they have this many bugs and performance issues?! Especially when Arceus ran better which is nearly a year old
@@HDGaminTutorials the tech isn't the problem here. if a game as simplistic looking as Violet and Scarlet still causes frame problems, no amount of tech will solve it if the game is just so poorly optimized.
So, personally I still enjoy the game despite its technical issues, my big two complaints from Sw/Sh were that it was too short and too easy, after 4 hours into S/V At my own enjoyable pace I haven’t even battled a gym or titan, so it doesn’t seem like length is gonna be an issue this time, and depending on how often you want to go to Pokémon centers, traversing the open world can provide enough of a challenge to make it not super easy, though the technical issues are annoying, I can push past them and still enjoy the game, however those issues make it hard to recommend this game to anyone not a die hard Pokémon fan

As good of a game it is, you just can't help but be impressed at how huge yet empty this game looks. You'd think they'd improved upon Arceus but this still feel like an experimental "new-gen" Pokemon game at best. Still, we can only hope that succeeding updates make this play smoothly as intended.
ANY open world game world would feel empty if it got Pokémon in it. I wish people would just be honest and tell people not to buy the game so fast, and just wait for it to get a patch, if they don't care about the glitches then go right ahead but stop making it seem like the glitches are easily ignored when do care the same way some don't, the game isn't going anywhere it would get better as time goes on
These games are very fun to play, being able to play through the whole game co-op is the best added feature since sliced bread. Just don't turn auto-save off. The performance issues lend to infrequent crashes. My gf learned the hard way by losing 8 hrs of play and essentially has to start the game over now
I lost only like 2 hrs thankfully cause I played a day before the physical release but turned auto save off right before talking to Mom and when I got the the 1st town I talked to all npcs and the Tauros owner froze my game so I lost my female kitty
U cant fully blame the switch. Cause games such as witcher 3 and skyrim and Xenoblade chronicles 3 look amazing and perform very well. despite the obvious downgrade. This is literally gamefreaks lazy development and unwillingness to put more money into their games. They could have hired monolith who made the Xenoblade games. But they are incredibly greedy and wanted to spend as little money as possible making these games. Its sad.
I think one of the worst issues is when your game stays on for too long and becomes progressively worse in frame rate (I saw someone refer to the issue has memory leak somewhere). Like game goes from already low frames to less than normal making it even more unplayable. And to fix that problem you have to reset the game. I think the game in concept is very fun but having my character go 2 frames a second to then having lighting glitches is so hard to enjoy. They definitely need to fix that issue with a new update. I think overall this is a good step for Pokémon if they can execute it better and I think half the battle is having a better performance console which we’ll hopefully get soon. Like I REALLY want to like the game because it’s fun to play but the performance and visual glitches are so off putting imo.
Makes you really think what the developers can do if they are not limited to nintendo consoles. Like, imagine an open world pokemon using pc or playstation/xbox.
The picnic is great because you can use it to not only bond fast with your pokemon but can refill all their health bars instead of heading to a center or using items. He may have missed that part. With the game being this big and the pokedex grind it's perfect for prolonged exploration.

Video games especially today have been a great way for me to take time away from balling my eyes out to sort of concentrate on something else, whether I'm beating up bad guys as batman or racing cars in hot wheels. I just want to put this here because although everyone has tough days if we take some time off to play video games that isn't something we should feel guilty about. I felt like if I stopped crying and played something then that would mean I stopped caring but it's ok and people may insult me for writing this I'm just doing it because at the moment typing this is relieving some of that stress and pain

TBH it wouldve looked cool if the the crystals attached to their head are floating around the pokemon with elemental particle effects from their typings and made it look like an aura. Instead we got the worst gimmick in pokemon games. The best powerup would probably be the Mega forms, they should've expanded that instead.
the pokemon company is not the same as other gaming companies. A delay in the release means that everything has to be delayed. that includes both the anime and the card game. Gen 8 anime is over, and there are no more card sets releasing for gen 8. The release schedule for the mainline pokemon games coinsides with the rest of the media produced by the company, therefore games cant be set back.
This is a laughable excuse for such a profitable company. If they wanted to change the way things work they could, but I wouldn't because why fix what still makes fuck tons of money
@@TT-ey3hi Not at all from what i've seen so far. The performance issues are REALLY bad. There's no excuse for a game to run sub 15 FPS in2022. It's like a slide show at times, they should not have released this game yet, it isn't finished
I know this doesn't excuse the performance issues, but if you turn the game off every 4 or 6 hours and restart it, the frame rate gets a lot better. I suspect there is a very minor memory leak. I know this because the game will crash eventually as the frame rate chugs more and more. Thankfully the autosaves are brilliant - never lost any progress from a crash - But restarting the game every now and then prevents this.
I'm going through a nasty divorce and to be honest this game is. Even with it's problems giving me enough of an escape that i don't loose my mind from stress. I hope they patch it. There is potential.
I know I already replied once but the (super cool) person above me recommended a game so I figured I would too. A really good game for escapism IMO is Deltarune, it can be a little scary/creepy at points but it's mainly a lot of fun, the battle system is fantastic and the music, art, and characters are just so enjoyable. Plus you can look forward to new chapters probably releasing next year!
Graphical and performance issues aside, I’m so baffled by Game Freak boasting about the “Three different storylines!!” It’s the same things you do in a Pokémon game anyway. They just let you go out of order now. I remember when I first played Skyrim in 2011, I felt that each faction’s storyline could be a main quest in itself. I remember thinking, “This is what the stories of open world games are going to become from now on!” …I was wrong.
This game is looking rough for a modern day game this popular. I still enjoy playing the Red version on my clear purple Gameboy color every now and then.

They probably thought they could patch all the glitches before the release of the game but ended up not being able to do it before the release but yeah I do think they are gonna work on that soon and patch it up I don’t think that they’d let this crap graphics stay for too long especially with all the glitches I agree with you tho
A common issue with lots of companies atm, they do not have or invest enough in QC. People are still going to buy the game regardless of bugs because the franchise is big and popular enough, so they invest less money in quality assurance to make bigger profits.
I've been waiting for an open world pokemon game for 10 years. I've always loved openworld games starting with assassin's creed 3. And this is what they come up with? I would have rather a last minute delay into 2023 or even 2024 than this. Gamefreak had a chance to deliver probably among the most anticipated pokemon game since the beginning and blew it. Hard.
Been playing since Gen 1. After S/S I was done. Seeing this only confirms that yes Pokémon is an over the hill franchise without any inspiration or soul anymore. Honestly, having a blast with the game so far. The performance issues are legit holding it back though. And battle transitions can sometimes end with the camera sticking underground on very steep slopes and etc. Wild Pokémon battle transitions also… kinda like pause for a second or two. It doesn’t happen all the time but often and long enough to be noticeable. Gameplay wise, it does feel very different from most other Pokémon games. I’d say the best part is nailing the Pokémon variety and sense of exploration. Traveling around the land to see what sorts of different Pokémon one may find is probably my favorite part of the game. Legends Arceus had better mechanics but the big seamless open world and tons of new Pokémon made this a lot more fun to explore. The new Pokémon are kind of an acquired taste. Give them time and they might grow on you.
@@preemptivefaceplant5277 It's not the console's fault. Doom Eternal, Metroid Dread, BotW and MH Rise all performs very well on the switch. The issue here is the developers.
It also lets you breed your Pokemon and the sandwiches can do all sorts of things like increase the spawn rates of shinies or specific types of Pokemon, give your team stat buffs and even increase egg spawn rates.
It's one of the best Pokemon games I've ever played and I really like the various plots and general freedom - even the picnic feature, as it's sometimes nice just to bond with your team - but you make a lot of good points.
I'm just a little disappointed that they haven't added any sort of level scaling system for the gym leaders. The only incentive to actually do the gym challenge is because it makes Pokemon a little easier to catch, that's it. I spent so much time running around, doing Tera Battles, and just a bunch of other stuff that my Pokemon got super over leveled and the gym challenge was extremely easy. There's been lots of criticism over the years of "oh, Pokemon is so easy now" but in this game's case, it rings true. Don't get me wrong, I think it's a ton of fun, but the pacing is totally off, and it really is quite easy.

Picnic adds a lot to the game. So yeah I'll happily type out my essay defending the game because every aspect of it that isn't performance or graphics depending on who you ask is good.
I can forgive the frame rates etc. It's not ideal, but for me, the new style of no random encounters, and huge freedom is so much fun. I'd be amazed if they don't patch the frame rate stuff out in a few patches. But whats is here is a lot of fun imo
I love the real time battles and not having to wait for the weird circular dimension to load up. I love that Pokémon are in the world itself, but how can this game be worse than LoA that launched earlier ? This is a main Pokémon game for Nintendo of all companies , not a side project yet it feels emptier than past games. We all want Pokémon games to be better open world games, that’s what we’ve always wanted. I was very excited for this game and I want to love it and ignore its problems, I really hope Nintendo/GameFreak will patch this game for the better. Heck, games like Pokémon XD looked amazing for it’s time, Sword/Shield looked amazing, Pokémon games now should be almost perfection.
Picnic is actually useful, cause if u open your map, you'll see a pokemon u want to catch and u can't see it in the area just make a sandwhich with an "encounter" of the type of the pokemon u want to see and catch.
As someone who loved playing PLA and put in hours in that game. I was hooked with the new catching mechanic’s & explorations of the Pokémon world. It was really fun. There was this feeling of the unknown and I loved that. With all the new mechanics they added I was forgiving for the pop in and the lack of detail in the world. But for this new main line pokemon game I really thought they had enough time to fix all these problems and learn from there mistake while adding what we loved from PLA but I was wrong. This game feels, rushed it feels like the devs really don’t care. Even the Pokémon look ehhh. It’s sad honestly because they can really make a beautiful, fun & exciting Pokémon game with DLC that will make you want to rush and download it. I won’t be buying this one unfortunately because the only way for them to learn is by not giving them my money.
I think you are wrong in some of these. Yes its a bit buggy But i like the battle mechanic. It doesnt feel rushed. the story and the areas are beautiful. saying its rushed or the devs dont care is because it doesnt have the exact things you want from a previous. Thats you making a personal excuse on why you dont want to play it. Not because of the devs lack of caring. Alot of the pokemon look nice to me. NO one is every happy with pokemon designs, literally never an any generation so thats a personal thing. (nostalgia for older pokemon games dont mean the design of the pokemon were any better) The game isnt bad, the issue is Its like trying to play the the newest world of warcraft on an old original xbox or ps1. what they are trying to do just isnt meant for the switch. they need a better updated console. Nintendo consoles are just not built for what they are trying to do. So all in all, you are using personal reasons for why you dont want to play the game and blaming it on the the devs not caring. If you like PLA better because you dont have to battle pokemon to catch them, cool. But dont blame the devs for "not caring about the game" thats an excuse.
@@preemptivefaceplant5277 i actually disagree. Look at breath of the wild. We need to start voting with our wallets. PLA wasn’t great either did it do some things right? Sure did I like them sure. Did they need to release another Pokémon game that same year? Absolutely not. @@1mphulse you’re 100% right but what we can do is most importantly voice our opinion & concerns. Because as a big fan I’m just so disappointed. It will take time but eventually people will realize if they want change they will need to re evaluate their standards for what’s truly fair / acceptable for their money.
It may be "open world" but you get punished if you want to just explore. You can easily have your pokemon get too high of a level where they won't listen to you unless you force yourself to do the gyms in a timely manner. If you want to freely explore this world, you must finish the story quests first, THEN then game becomes more of an open world. You're actually locked out of a few areas and TMs until you can climb and glide.
I’d love a real time battling system. The four buttons are tied to your Pokémon’s moves. You can mount and fight with your Pokémon during wild battles. Wild Pokémon can attack you directly. Can set a nature for your Pokémon, aggressive/cautious/etc. Real sizes for Pokémon. There are a ton of examples I mean damn.
I really hope they get a grip on the pokemon series. Honestly if they could stick to mega evolution and regional forms that would be better than a new gimmick with each new game. Focusing on a competent style would be better than what they're doing. Perhaps something closer to Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX? There's just so much that they have had that works in the past that were used only once or twice and then forgotten, and many of these new mechanics (not all) aren't working out. I'm not saying I want the same old games, I just want them to take what has worked the best and stop doing a new one time gimmick each game.
I’m really disappointed with the fact they got rid of the “set” style of battling. I liked it because it made the game play much faster and hopefully it gets put back in the future but yeah, there were some issues with it and it’s kind of a mess. If I wasn’t a big Pokémon fan, I would’ve passed on it. Sadly, though… I feel like I got robbed.

Got this game for christmas yesterday, played it all day and ive played it all this morning too... Really fun! If anyone's wondering, yes, they've fixed the performance and most glitches are ironed out now. However, graphics are a bit disappointing... The fact that Tears of the Kingdom, a game over twice as large, manages to look so much better than this game that its hard to state how much better it looks... Idk, I feel like something went terribly wrong in the environment art department at Game Freak for this one... Not to mention how jaring they fix the framrate, by selectively tanking the framerate of the minimap and certain parts of the distant environment/decorative pokemon/npcs. Really weird to be walking around in a silky smooth world and then look up and see a single windmill turning at 5 FPS, or walk through a town and see my buddy pokemon at a smooth 30 fps standing next to a 5 fps npc's buddy pokemon. Gives off fnaf security breach vibes with the low fps cleaning bots... oh well :/ Also not a big fan of some of the texture work lol... but gameplay is great, no doubt about that Would recommend if the game comes on sale... dunno if its worth full price anymore tho lol
This review sounds like it's from someone who didn't get to the end of the story. Sure there are technical issues, but the story is the best we've ever seen in a Pokemon game, coming from someone who grew up during Gen 1.
I actually bought the game and decided to throw it into an emulator on pc because of the fps and it runs extremely well. Some screen tearing during cinematics but thats to be expected emulating however i could see why its pushing the switch to its limits, visuals are pretty stellar for a mainline pokemon game and the extent to which the world loads in around you is pretty massive in which i can assume is why the switch is running such low frames.
@@ahassani uhm well if you read the comment you’d realize I’m experiencing exclusively pc, so yes if it is very different from horrible switch specs that makes sense. However that would mean the games graphics themselves are not the inherent problem but what can run on the switch in which case we would need heavy optimizations or to dumb down something.
The one thing I really like about this massive open world, where you can go anywhere you want at any time is that it makes it easier to catch the Pokémon you want on your team, based on who you think is cool from viewing the Pokédex. So you'll be able to gather all six before you fight the first gym, regardless of the Pokémon's location.
Except that Pokemon levels do not scale. You could immediately make a Combeeline right for the northern areas and be encountering Pokemon that are lvl 40-50 well before your Pokemon are anywhere ready to take them on. Same with the trainers, gyms, and star-bases. While the game DOES let you go wherever you want once the open world starts, it is painfully clear that they want you to go/do things in a certain order. It doesn't matter how many bases or gyms you defeat, the levels do not scale. So you could very easily go up to the higher level areas and painfully work your way to the higher gyms earning enough badges so that your higher level Pokemon will listen to you...then just return to the lower level gyms, trainers, and bases and completely steamroll them. I watched a streamer play through the game and he figured he'd just work in a counter-clockwise way around the map. And the gym lvls jumped so high for him very quickly because the 4th gym he got to is technically suppose to be the 8th gym you face. He didn't even stand a chance and was stomped. Afterwords, he did a little digging and learned that the levels do not scale and the reason why the levels of the Pokemon he was facing jumped so high rather quickly and were too strong for him was because there is technically a set path the game wants you to follow in order to make progression much smoother and less of a hassle.
I miss when gamefreak would make their games challenging with pitch black caves needing you to have a Pokémon with flash to gym leaders being super fun and challenging. Mainstream pokemon games after X/Y have really gone down hill :(:(
It kinda feels like a fan made game sometimes. Lack of insides/dungeons and the towns/gyms being lack luster is a real knock on the game imo. I got through three gyms and then took to just exploring because the weird gym task are just so pointless, especially for the electric gym. The visuals go from fine to a blocky mess often. The new art direction isn't for me either. Like the way characters and mons look is off. Its a shame because the new gen of mon I think is very strong and the concepts are all there.
Game Freak just can't keep getting away with this every times. They put minimum efforts and earned maximum profit because so many people keeps buying their games even though its bad
I don’t get why Pokémon doesn’t create a masterpiece of a game. They have every resource to do it and they are the largest media franchise in the world.

The Arceus team and the S/V teams were indeed different. Also, Scarlet/Violet was in production before and after Arceus released!
Ah no wonder they look so different
Arceus looks terrible too, but at least it looks better than S/V.
It most definently isnt a step back. Yes the framerate and some minor glitching sucks. but outside that its amazing
@@preemptivefaceplant5277 there's untextured areas, 2 FPS animation and awful lag whenever anything is on screen, but that's rare since there's rarely anything else on screen until it sees you and inconveniences your Hour by having to wait for the constant freezing to stop.

Feels like the game is made for as cheap as possible despite making millions of dollars, its so toxic

The best thing to happen to Pokémon in years
Games for kids sadly its where they make the most money
Honestly, this concept right here is what got me into playing the Shin Megami Tensei games, which is basically Pokemon for adults (or at least adultier kids?).
This game would be super impressive if it was made by a 3 man indie team.
... Would it be?
The crazy thing is that there have been individual developers who have made Pokemon games that are better than this. It’s honestly pathetic.

I remember when going deep into a generation meant developers knew the hardware, and we were able to squeeze more out of it. Not the other way around.

I have only played sword and shield when it comes to the 3D pokemon games, but I can already say that I still prefer Pokemon in its 2D format when it comes to exploration. I think what they did with X and Y and the more recent Diamon/Pearl remakes are the top examples of blending 3D with the original 2D base game the right way.
It just shows how hollow the games actually are.
Tile based movement and totally invisible items had you mashing the action button on every corner of the map of those classic games.
Seriously. They've did this open world thing with Arceus, wasn't a fan cause it looks like dog poo, I'd much rather them go back to X/Y or Sh/Sw grpahics

As much as I do want a pokemon game that includes every region, how would it be balanced? Would they raise the level cap? Would they drastically reduce the content from the additional regions?
Like I REALLY want to like the game because it’s fun to play but the performance and visual glitches are so off putting imo.
the console is not holding it back, BoTW looks 500x times better and performs better as well

I want an official open world Gen 1-Gen3 with a new Gen release, 4 regions with each of the rivals becoming the Elite 4 in the 4th region
I'm glad that I was able to ask the pokemon nurse on suggestions where to go next. Because I was so used to Pokemon being so streamlined.
I absolutely love these games. I HOPE they can get it together and make a great one that's really AAA. These are Indy games being developed by AAA studio to me. I wish someone else like Square Enix could make a Pokemon game.
Square is a shell of its former self.
Ehh, indy devs put in more effort than this
Indie games are way more polished than this dogshit. You are insulting all the indie devs by comparing them to this joke of a game.
@@alexfarrell3250 Square Management is a shell of its former self, and their remasters are very iffy, but you're crazy. Square still makes plenty of bangers and at least solid games that would blow GameFreak out of the water
FF7R, Nier, FF14, Octopath, DQ11, Bravely Default, Triangle Strategy, Star Ocean, Voice of Cards, World Ends with You, Harvestella
Upcoming Promising games that look at least solid: Forspoken, FF16, Octopath 2, DQ12, KH4 (didnt like 3, but we'll see), among other smaller releases

This is my first Pokémon game since the first Black & white editions. Im having fun but damn does the beginning drag and the rival is so annoying. Frame rate is yarring, but im having fun roaming around freely and catching Pokémon and thats what its all about!
I know it's my first pokemon since I had my old ds from heart gold, it's got its issues, but I haven't seen it once as anything unenjoyable or unplayable. Lots of people just like to complain so they can be heard.
You didn’t play Arceus ?
What saddens me is, If it wernt for all the issues this would easily be one of the best pokemon games story wise and gameplay wise.
●Poor framerates
●Bad textures
●Non-enterable buildings
●only ~400/over 1000 total Pokemon are in the game
●No turning off Exp. Share
●No changing outfits
●No turning off the "switch pokemon?" prompt
●No turning off battle animations
●Slow battles in general
●No battle tower/frontier
●NO LEVEL SCALING
●No voice acting
What am I missing? I know there's plenty
Games on Switch don’t need to be this bad. The new update for Ark on Switch that digital foundry just covered looks so good. I think many developers could learn a lot from that.
With games like The Witcher 3 and No Mans Sky on switch, there are literally 0 excuses why Pokémon SV should run so terribly on switch!
Wouldn’t be surprised if the bigger dungeons would be more of a dlc feature.
Ah yes. Paying for features that should already be in the game is nice
Gives off fnaf security breach vibes with the low fps cleaning bots... oh well :/
Also not a big fan of some of the texture work lol... but gameplay is great, no doubt about that
Would recommend if the game comes on sale... dunno if its worth full price anymore tho lol
So you're saying shots like 2:18 look stellar? Gamefreak still has a lot of lessons to learn from Xenoblade chronicles 3 and BOTW.
Which emulator did you use?
The one thing I really like about this massive open world, where you can go anywhere you want at any time is that it makes it easier to catch the Pokémon you want on your team, based on who you think is cool from viewing the Pokédex. So you'll be able to gather all six before you fight the first gym, regardless of the Pokémon's location.
Tragically the open world is probably why its so glitchy.
Afterwords, he did a little digging and learned that the levels do not scale and the reason why the levels of the Pokemon he was facing jumped so high rather quickly and were too strong for him was because there is technically a set path the game wants you to follow in order to make progression much smoother and less of a hassle.
here, we have an example of the low standards pokefanbois have. Impressive. Good job.
No fan made pokemon games are sadly much better than this even without the ammount of openworldness which is sad.
Game Freak just can't keep getting away with this every times. They put minimum efforts and earned maximum profit because so many people keeps buying their games even though its bad
