CB7 RL Big Brake install - 5 Lug Conversion install - Track CB7 Build EP. 7 - 92 Honda Accord

  • After replacing the entire stock hub assembly with the 1st gen Odyssey knuckle I am then able to fit the bracket fro the RL calipers and the 350z rotors. After that the wait is finally over and I get to fit the new 5 lug wheels on the car.
    I didn't go over this in the video but you will most likely need to get custom brake lines made for the the RL calipers like I did. The stock RL is equipped with bubble flare fittings as opposed to most Hondas with inverted flare fittings. What I did was got a custom hose made with one male bubble flare end and a female inverted flare end.
    If you are interested in converting your CB7 or CD5 over to the RL big brakes you will need.
    -05+ Acura RL Calipers and pads
    -Fat Four Customs or Fast brakes caliper mounting brackets.
    -06 350Z (w/ Brembos) rotors [note: you will need to expand the center bore to 70.3mm to fit Odyssey knuckles]
    -I highly recommend planning to run a 17" wheel to clear the calipers
    -The RL calipers use bubble flare fittings as opposed to the typical double flare brake lines, so I would recommend getting custom brake hoses made.

    This video just got you a new subscriber. I've been a mechanic for 24 year's. Your knowledge is awesome! Are you a mechanic or just a great tuner? No hate here, however you sould only use blue loctite on on brakes. Plus, never hammer on the cv axle end at the hub. Sometimes it mushrooms it and will be hard to get the nut back on. If you put anti seize on the cv axle splines, you'll never have to use a hammer. Anyways you were perfect on your installation. I don't know how old you are, but you have a great future as a mechanic/tuner. Keep up the great work. 👍

      Christopher Elrod Stay away from those Skunk2 arms. Get an SPC camber kit. They make a kit specifically for the CB7 that is available in +/- 1.5° or +/- 3°

    • @JaayPeeBuilt
      @JaayPeeBuilt  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ehh I would still recommend the skunk2 upper control arms because the spc camper kit is just a ballpoint that is adjustable. If you buy the skunk2 kit you’ll have a stronger control arm with new upgraded upper control arm bushings along with the camber adjustment you need.

    • @JaayPeeBuilt
      @JaayPeeBuilt  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And I’ve been running mine for about 3 years now and not a single complaint.

    • @t.j2881
      @t.j2881 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JaayPeeBuilt im sure you know the point of a camber kit is so you can increase positive camber after lowering in an attempt to "correct" it. The skunk2 arms cant do that, they are to short. They're not meant for a CB7, they're meant for an EF or DA if I remember corectly. Using them defeats the whole purpose of a camber kit. Skunk2 arms give more negative camber than an OEM arm even after they've been maxed out. The SPC has more positive adjustment available as it's being installed in the correct length arm. You're able to get closer to the OE camber specs with the SPC kits. And for the price of the skunk2 arms you could buy the SPC kit and energy suspension front UCA and LCA poly bushings and still have money left over. Not sure if skunk2 has upped their quality control lately but the life of their ball joints were known to be short lived. Personally I'd rather have the peace of mind of having an UCA thats as close to OEM as possible while still being adjustable.

    What brand of control arms you have on there

    • @JaayPeeBuilt
      @JaayPeeBuilt  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are Skunk2 upper A arms for an ef civic or crx. Just be aware fully extended there will still be negative camber which I was going for, if you're looking for a control arm to correct negative camber you'll want to go with something else.

      @@MrRobear I'm pretty sure they're for an EF civic, from what I've read online that's the kit you buy for the CB7. But when maxed out they can only correct so much negative camber as the arm itself is shorter than an OEM CB7 arm. SPC makes a great camber kit specifically for the CB7 thou, both front and rear. I've been running their front kit for years, I've had them on 2 different CB7's and they're still nice and tight. Great products. On the other hand Skunk2 has a pretty bad reputation as far as reliability and longevity of their camber kits, control arms, ect. You couldnt pay me to run their products on my car.

      Prettyboy Prepper unfortunately not.... because with the cb7 it originally comes with an encased rotor or sandwiched rotor. When converting to a 5 lug hub you are actually converting to a rotor over hub design which would not be compatible with the knuckle that comes on cb’s and cd’s. So the 1st gen odyssey offers the same knuckle mounting points so it fits like stock but was designed for a rotor over hub design.

    Hey I'm doing the same swap. Where can I get the custom brake line? Thanks

      I got mine from a local brake hose shop.. if you don’t have anything like that near you there’s a couple sites out there that you can order custom DOT approved hoses. Just measure the length of your factory brake hose for length but I would recommend getting it with a 90 degree male bubble flare end and a frame mount female inverted flare on the other end. And you’ll be perfect with no chance of leaks

    why bore out the rotor when I can just get acura rl rotors? Is there a reason I shouldn't us rl rotors?

    • @JaayPeeBuilt
      @JaayPeeBuilt  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dwayne Lewis when using the bracket to mount the caliper it spaces it away from the center of the wheel. Which then leaves you with needing a bigger rotor to overcome that extra space. So the best solution that people have found is using the 350z track edition rotors and bore the center.

      oh. yeah that makes sense. Im going to be doing this to my honda element. I was going to use tl type s brakes but I didn't wanna drill out the holes on my knuckle, so I might be going this route
