Oh my goodness! That is unreal. How can no one from administration not check on this teacher? Why didn't the school send that teacher to grief therapy? What about counselors being sent to the school for the kids? 💔

Simply put, when looking at a school's problems, a massive majority of them are directly related to the admin staff. Either through things like mismanagement of funds(my schools admin office wasn't even a real building, it was one of those "buildings" that look like a giant shipping container. It had no less than 6 flat screen TVs of considerable size. We also had major funding problems for every single program/class in the arts, despite being a large school. So clearly, rather than focus on the things that mattered to the students and parents, the admin was spending money on stupid shit that nobody asked for, or needed), making bad policies that negatively impact teachers and students, or just generally running things into the ground because caring less than they do would be something worthy of a new entry in the DSM, they ruin the school

Awesome teacher for trying to save Mr. Blank life. My heart goes out to her. I also stay calm.during a crisis and fall apart after.

Deeply heart wrenching for everyone involved. Sadly not uncommon for admin to checkout and not care for their employees.

I’m not a teacher, but a government employee. I assisted a coworker who had a massive heart attack. My treatment was very similar. Traumatized is an understatement.

So sad. In 5th grade our teacher went home, had a stroke, at hospital had more strokes, passed away only 2 months into school year, we all missed her, loved her and we all got to attend her funeral.

I can't imagine being in a situation like that. It's unfathomable that the administration couldn't be bothered to check on her. That's heartless.

How awful for that teacher, the students and the son of the teacher who died. It does go to show you though, how calloused our society has become. For the school administrators to not bother to check on the teacher who tried to save this man's life and to show such disrespect to her plus not shutting the school down until forced to, shows how little they care about human life. If it's not making money, it's not worth dealing with. I am so sorry for all involved in trying to save this man and for the students who had to witness this tragedy. May he rest in peace.

As someone who has tried to save a loved one through CPR, all I have to say is I have no words, besides knowing how horrifying the situation can be. The fact that NO ONE checked on her is just appalling. She just engaged in a major trauma, and was not "okay," and NEEDED people with her and taking care of her too!

When my fiancé died, I was expected to conduct a PD, received ONE sympathy card from the school secretary, and was written up 3 days later for attending his funeral. I “violated board policy” bc he was “just” a fiancé. This is why I hate all admin.

Thanks for sharing a depressing experience. Life is precious and fragile. Whether we consider it or not our lives are intertwined and dependent on others and it’s up to us to struggle through and help each other. In The Bible, Genesis, Cain says, “Am I my brother’s keeper?”. Simplistically the answer is Yes. I am puzzled as to why so many people have become unconcerned and cold regarding the people they live and work with everyday. The school administrators should have shown their respect for a dedicated colleague. Their inaction conveyed to the students that some people don’t care.

My first school was a middle school. If kids were sleeping or on their phones in class, the teachers would get in trouble for it. The building aides would go around every hour to make sure this wasn't happening. Can you skit this?

I worked for a school admin that would have written me up for.. not performing CPR effectively? Leaving my class? Not performing professionally the rest of the day. Perhaps all of the above?

My husband’s 1st grade teacher died at her desk and they all thought she was taking a nap. When his class didn’t show up for lunch, they sent someone to check on the class. Realizing what happened, the principal took all the children to the cafeteria. My husband never knew until years later what had really happened. The school got a sub for the afternoon and life went on.

How scary! At least she got him on the floor to do CPR. When I was still practicing, retired RN here, I took care of an unfortunate lady. She had a heart attack at work, which was an office setting. When the paramedics arrived she was still in her chair. One of her co-workers was doing rescue breathing. No one was doing chest compressions. Between the paramedics and later the ER doctors, they got her heart going again. The problem was without chest compressions her brain was deprived of oxygen for too long. She was in a coma with a poor prognosis. Moral of the story...learn CPR! Take a class. It could save someone's life!

Not a teacher, but many moons ago, as a student, my teacher had a medical emergency during hours. I ended up taking over her classes until the office finally realized that “hey, maybe we should have an adult in this class”. I didn’t even get a thank you.

Damn, and the kids too who have to live with the fact that they basically watched that man die! It's obviously not their fault, but I bet those poor kids are blaming themselves! Not one mention of admin giving any of them help, not even giving them a day off - administration is terrible!

At the school where I teach, we had a teacher take her own life….one of our board members allowed her son to tweet it to his friends. That is how my husband and I found out our colleague was gone and the manner in which it happened. A parent who saw the tweet and had our personal phone ( my children also attended the school where we work) called and asked if it was true. The board member never apologized. She just said “that is how kids interact these days.” When my husband was dying of cancer, my admin called me into to tell me that another member of his department complained that my husband was depressing to be around because he was so ill. Oh, and when he died, not one admin, board member or district admin checked in on me or my kids. My son was a senior and my daughter was a sophomore. She still made valedictorian. Oh, and my fellow teachers put the whole funeral and reception together and paid for it. God bless my fellow teachers and may our admin and board be damned.

This is real, and this is sad. When I was in middle school my math teacher died at school. I can relate to this. But honestly, the school did NOT shut down. Nor did we get off to attend the funeral. This is reality for ALL OF US. When we, a friend or a relative dies the world does not stop. Schools don’t shut down, businesses don’t close, that’s just how it is. Life goes on!
