- when you go fishing and you see fish splash with not even a pull. You get ready to go home and one last cast can sometimes produce a fish. Then you then have to drive home with a big smile
Great way to finish the afternoon. Hooked well played well and nicely returned. Cheers for the video Ian.
It put up a cracking fight Paddy and I was grateful to see it shoot off into the depths so quickly Cheers Iain 🥃
Well done Iain. Just fantastic.
another great day at the river Colin who could ask for more
Cheers Iain. 🥃
Watching you cast is hypnotic. What a good fight that salmon gave well done
I will need to put add some other videos of my bad casting Stew I end up with wind nots and birds nest just like every angler and enjoy every minute of it........sometimes it doesn't seem that way at the time 😉. Cheers Iain. 🥃
Nothing like a good soaking. Well done!
at this time of year it take a bit to dry off the fishing gear Richard but its worth it Cheers Iain. 🥃
It's always worth them last couple of casts, glad you got your reward , it's a lovely bit of water I'd love to fish sometime, really like your videos of your days on Cardrona, keep up the good work 🎣😀👍👍
Hi Dunkan. Thanks for the comment . I am fortunate to have fished at Cardrona for a lot of years and look forward to the autumn fishing but each year I think that I feel the cold a bit more . I am sure that the magnetic pull will have me back there for a few years to come even although my toes seem to go numb Cheers Iain. 🥃
Feisty fish at dusk, well done Sir. That was worth a wee dram when you got home 🏡 👍
it put up a good battle Stephen and it never took any time to make its exit who said work up a thirst 😉.
Cheers Iain 🥃
Well done Iain, well worth those last couple of casts..lovely fish to finish your day on 👏
It doesn't always work Frosty. I have had so many failed last casts but its a great feeling when it comes together
Cheers Iain 🥃
Lovely video Ian i havent fished for 20 years but your videos take me0 right back to the bank the sounds of running water fly lines reels fish splashing its all very memorable thats probably your last till next season now thanks for letting us see them
Hi James I am glad that my efforts help bring back good memories of being on the river . the season goes on to the end of November so I will try and keep the splashing going a few more times this year 😉. Cheers Iain. 🥃
Well done Iain... that's your reward for all the perseverance... looked to be a good few fish in the river, but halfway down that Nutwood Pool seems to be the hotspot. Tight lines for your next outing! Cheers James 🥃
the Nutwood has always been good to me especially half to three quarters down the pool James . always time for last cast Cheers Iain. 🥃
Well done Ian, you cast so well and played your fish so gently and returned it so promptly.
Your videos are a joy to see!
Nick from York
Thanks for your comment Nick it's great to see a fish take off without having to hold it to recover Cheers Iain. 🥃
Bye God I enjoyed the video Ian , It’s always them last casts ! Lovely
Thanks Tony I have seen myself in the past clime back into the water just to have that last cast . On occasions it works and then have to drive home with a big smile 😊
Cheers Iain. 🥃
Nice one Iain, How many of us do the last cast, funny old lot aren't we. Spirited fish and unphased by the battle.
It was one of these fish that made it very difficult to get onto the bank to unhook but I was glad that I never had to hold it for a while as my back was getting sore ... ill need to catch up with the rest of your videos Cheers Iain. 🥃
Well done Iain 🥃
Thanks Christopher. another enjoyable day on the Tweed
Cheers Iain. 🥃
Great to catch on the last knockings of the day! Well done Iain! Cheers! 🥃
I never know if I feel great getting a fish at the start of the day as the rest of the day is spent looking for another
Cheers Iain. 🥃
Well done Iain, at last and a good fish, thought i was not going to see it as the darkness was closing in on you. More of the same, tight lines 🥃 cheers
Thanks Dave. There were lots of good fish and only one daft one ....... keeping a daft angler company . I hope you are keeping better Cheers Iain 🥃
I bet you were a happy man walking out after that, Iain! Great sport, nicely captured as always.
Thanks again Jon it was a damp and soggy day and my nose kept running .
But I did have a smile all the way home 😊
Cheers Iain. 🥃
That was a great bit of fishing and catching!! Well Done!!
Nice catch.
What rod and line are you using?
The rod is a 12ft Hardy Demon for 7weight and the line is a Rio scandi short multi tip 8 weight and that seems to suit and load the rod well Cheers Iain. 🥃
Thanks Bob another enjoyable day at the river it's not always worth it to have an extra last cast but when it produces a fish my smile is enormous Cheers Iain. 🥃
Well done Iain.just reward.A salmon at last.
It was worth the last cast Steve . Thought at the time it was going to be to dark for the camera . Just lucky again.
Cheers Iain. 🥃
Great stuff, Iain. Gave you a terrific scrap. Just reward for your patience this season.
I had a bit bother getting a hold of it to release it Laurie and it still had a lot of power to scream away when released . I think that we all go through the patches of not catching but its good when it all comes together
Cheers Iain 🥃
A well deserved salmon for you Iain, so glad to hear that reel and yourself hook up to one
Love it or hate it the noise from the old J W Young reels definitely can be heard from quite a bit away . I was walking back to the car and a guy walking his dog asked if I had caught a fish as he picked up the noise from further up the footpath Cheers Iain 🥃
You always do well in the bottom of the nut wood Ian every year in the dusk
I couldn't tell how many fish that I have managed from there John it is always worth a last cast. I remember fishing there one evening with a new large arbour reel when they first came out I hooked three very large salmon and each time the disc drag jammed the spool and the fish came off. I found out later that cork was used for the drag and when it got wet it would swell and jam. I never went home with a smile that evening Cheers Iain.
That was one fit fish well done, timed to perfection😎 Plenty moving around as well which always delays the last cast.....worked out pretty well this time 🍺
There always is time for a last cast Mr Mazo I managed to get it to the bank before it was too dark to see it and a bit of luck that it was unhooked quickly . Cheers Iain 🥃
Well done that man patience paid of plenty fish about.
There have been lots of fish in the upper Tweed but they have been difficult to get a hold of James ... Cheers Iain. 🥃
Hi Ian, nice bit of fishing. What surprised me is how much noise comes off that road, a bit like what we call “roadside fishing”! I wish that I could have seen the fish that you managed to catch as it looked like a decent size. A few questions if I may, what size hook were you fishing and did you stay on the same fly pattern the whole day? What was the depth of the water that you were targeting and what was the rate of flow i.e. cubits? The reason I am asking is so that I can compare your experiences to mine when I am casting for wild Steelheads here in NZ. I have been using the same line as you, except that I use an Orvis #8 rod, casting one handed when fishing the Tongariro River. I start my day by Nymphing up the pool or bend to the head and then changing to a heavier rod to swing a wet fly. It’s always a pleasure to watch a master work his magic and we all learn something by watching and questioning. Cheers mate. Harera
Hi Harera. I am not sure that I qualify to.give answers to your questions as I am no expert, Just an angler that enjoys his fishing and got into editing and adding to TH-cam by accident . Most of the rivers in Scotland have roads running alongside as it was easier in the past to find level ground rather than go up the surrounding hills .The hook was a size 8 double (Iain Bain Special) and I use that pattern throughout the year and very seldom change except when the water gets a bit dirty. Most of the pools that are in Cardrona are not that deep possibly around 4 to 5 feet at the deepest parts at normal summer level. I have no means of measuring the flow but where I hooked the fish would be the slowest part of the pool and the fish do tend to lie there .. I don't spend a lot of time hovering over the fish with the camera as I prefer to get them back into the water asap . the main reasons for using a double handed rod is that I don't have to have much line behind me when casting and I can get more power into my cast to get the line further
Cheers Iain 🥃
Nice work Iain 👏! I never like it when you do all that work to have the fish on a short line and then the inevitable happens! It always ends up a hold your breath situation for me 😅! Well done tight lines for 2024
You probably heard me gasping for breath as I returned the fish Dan ........ I may have another trip or two before the end of the season Cheers Iain. 🥃
@@IainSB all the best for the remainder of the season Iain! Always look forward to watching your videos, take care stay safe 🎣
Nice catch.
What line and ro d are you fishing with?
The rod is a Hardy Demon 12ft for a 7 weight and the line is an 8weight Rio Scandi short multi tip.. I feel the heavier line loads the rod well Cheers Iain. 🥃
Heavy weather ian
I think I was lucky that as the day light went the m
coulds lifted and think that the pressure lifted a bit and may have encouraged the take Cheers Iain 🥃
Nice one Iain. Thought you might get one - your double spey was bang on - your running line was banging on the reel wanting more. Well done Iain - top man. BTW is that a Rio AFS you had on. They're brilliant lines. Cheers Phil
Hi again Phil. Thanks . The line is a Rio Scandi short multi tip and its designed for short rods they load the rod well I find that I use a size heavier that stated and usually have a polly tip on the end Cheers Iain 🥃
Old as fuck been in river week's
there seems to be less silver fish in the Autumn so we have to try for the ones that are there
