we were debating the difference between a good cast and a perfect cast Andy when the fish turned a good cast to a perfect one another enjoyable day. Cheers Iain. 🥃
The borders have a lot to offer Rock I am fortunate that I can make the journey to most of the fishing on the Tweed in less than an hour Cheers Iain. 🥃
@@IainSB ah. Sorry maybe I wasn’t too clear. I am a borderer, just moved away. Spent many a time fishing the rivers gala, tweed, ettrick, yarrow, but I have to say the most fun I had was on the Ellwen burn chasing little baggy minnows on light gear. Many memories.
We have had a bit of rain today Stevie and this will be the deciding factor . I hope that the river fills with Autumn fish and we all have a good few catches before the end of the season Cheers Iain
Excellent video Iain, glad to see you caught a nice fish. The beat you were fishing looked very fishy and the Ghillie is very knowledgeable, knowing every boulder and run intimately, always a good sign and makes for an enjoyable day out
Douglas was good company Andrew I have known him for a long time and he was trying hard for me to catch a fish . A great day out as we had a lot of catching up to do . Cheers Iain 🥃
Thanks again James another perfect day at the river I have to pinch myself a lot of the time when I am on the river when I have the chance to get fishing on so many beautiful beats Cheers Iain. 🥃
Thanks again Stephen I have to agree there are a lot of great rivers but with the Tweed being closest to my home I do enjoy my days there. Cheers Iain 🥃
Excellent video Ian what a very knowledgeable ghillie. You did have the perfect cast with great results. You're a very lucky man to get to fish such a beautiful stretch of river. Well done.
I am so lucky Paddy to have taken up fishing at an early age and found so many great places to fish and so many helpful anglers and ghillies . I know that there are so many other beautiful places on our earth that I haven't managed to fish and hopefully I can get round some other ones All the very best Cheers Iain. 🥃
Hi GT I have my fair share of bad casts and because I do all the editing I can dump the bad ones into the bin Cheers Iain 🥃. PS It is difficult sometimes to get a line to match the rod and if you can it makes all the difference
It was one of those days when it all came together Colin when we go fishing we are always full of anticipation and when the fishing day ends with a smile as big as the one I had, I know that it will be stuck in the memory for ever Cheers Iain. 🥃
Great video Iain , water looked very fishy and was quite a bit low but still you could see fish coming in the pools further on down. Cracking fish too Iain I think that place would be red hot if they had a bit more water coming through. Cheers. Steve. 🍷🎣
Maybe one day I will be able to fish these beats . Your very fortunate and must have deep pockets, I'm not jealous atoll , honestly. Edit - apologies I just seen it was a comp .
I am just an ordinary guy that has a passion. I wore a pair of overalls all my working life and managed to save for my retirement . I fish on a budget the same as every other angler and do count myself lucky.. One of my best fishing investments has been becoming a member of the Perth and District Anglers Association . at £220 a year with some of the best fishing on the Tay and tributaries its great value . Have a look at their web site . most of the videos that I have added to TH-cam from the Tay are through the P&D AA Tight Lines Cheers Iain 🥃
Well that was a fun insight to the secret place! A cracking stretch of the river and a nice fish well done. I'll have to make some secret enquiries to find out where you were:))
Knowledgeable ghillie but personally I dislike someone standing on my shoulder all day yammering in my ear. Following the advice I much prefer to fish alone when I can fully concentrate on the job in hand!
Hi again Philip. I find that when I go to a beat that I haven't fished before that I get so much information about the beat that 90% goes in one ear and out the other by the time I fish the first pool I have to rely on my own river craft which can be wrong I hadn't seen Douglas for so many years that a lot of the time spent that day was more about the past than fishing and that added to my day at the river Cheers Iain. 🥃
I have known Douglas since he was at school and worked in the tackle shop on Saturdays I won't ever tell him he is good Robert even although he is Cheers Iain
i used to notice seatrout and Grilse loved to snatch the fly with a square cast, and I caught a lot of large multi-sea winter salmon on the dangle, sometimes in less than 3 ft of water
I have found that the Grilse will chase after a fly as you say Fred and I think that the bigger fish can't be bothered wasting energy chasing a fly Cheers Iain 🥃
Iain Another enjoyable video many thanks for your efforts. You have a nice balanced outfit there and with your skills casts a lovely line. I think you mentioned the rod and the line weight as #8. Is it a Spey as the length you have out doesn’t look like a Scandi?
Hi Dellstar the rod is a seven weight 12ft the line is an8weight Scandi short with a 5 ft poly tip and the fly was an Iain Bain Special 😉. I am glad that you enjoyed my effort and I had a terrific days fishing and catching up with Douglas as I hadn't seen him for at least 20 years Cheers Iain. 🥃
Many thanks for the further information. We are close to the end of the season but maybe next year we could invite you down to our little stretch of the Teviot?
Thanks for the invitation I haven't fished the Teviot and would like to come and cast a fly as long as I pay for the privilege Cheers Iain. It must have been a close friend that you had the committal and the Roses we all have loved ones that we have lost and it brought back memories
Hi Iain thank you for your kind words. I lost my Dad last year age 93 and the Royal Navy committed his ashes in the Solent. We have a syndicate water so you can’t pay! I will be in touch and keep posting your amazing videos. I have become frustrated with my GoPro as the battery life seems to have dramatically shortened. I caught a fish at Tweedhill on a green bomber and thought I had captured it - sadly not!
I live nearby.Everytime i walk over that bridge i see a couple of Cormorants under there. I never realised they came this far up. They must murder the fish there
They travel all the way up our rivers . I was fishing at Dalguise on the river Tay early one spring and looking out the hut I saw over 100 cormorants It shows that life at sea isn't that good for them . Cheers Iain 🥃
Hi Olaf The fly I use nearly all the time is called an Iain Bain Special. I have made a video of myself tying the fly and There are others on TH-cam but my video is a better representation I have used this fly for a lot of years and found it has served me well. Cheers Iain. 🥃
its supposed to be a secret Keith the only reason that I was allowed to fish was I hadn't to mention the name of the beat . it was a great day out and the lunch helped. I will hopefully get fishing there in the future Cheers Iain. 🥃
I wasn't allowed to say where I was . that was one of the conditions for me being allowed to record my day . so still can't disclose or I may not get back 😉. Cheers Iain. 🥃
I take it you don't like the Ghillie hovering It sometimes helps having someone explain the pools when you arrive at them . I find that if I get told about the beat when I first arrive there is always to much info and by the time I fish the first pool I have forgotten all the rest of the information and probably miss a chance of a fish ....... Douglas and myself had a chat about a lot of things as we hadn't caught up for a long number of years , some of which was not for adding to the video but I will be able to blackmail him later Cheers Iain. 🥃
Well done Iain, it might not have been a fifty pounder but gave a good fight, lovely stretch of river. They don’t make bridges like that one anymore, 👏
Hi Dave The bridge has had a few restorations over the years and think that it will carry a lot of traffic for a few years yet. The date for a beer is the 11th October but don't know the location yet . I will let you know as soon as I do Cheers Iain. 🥃
Just a perfect day Mike Lou Reid sang the song and I try hard to give a good rendition every time I am at the river . I did sing it a bit louder on that day out. Cheers Iain 🥃
excellent ghillie, and in fairness an excellent cast, well done!

Jocky was a brilliant darts player but the demon drink got to much of a hold I did enjoy my day with Douglas

good to see you back among the fish, water has been so low. Maybe this rain this weekend will liven the whole system up , Cheers

Not a well kept secret GT I think Douglas was playing games to see how many comments would reveal the beat
Cheers Iain. 🥃
@IainSB Very lovely beat, and very knowledgeable ghillie always helps. Where's your go to spring beat Iain?
Lovely casting pal, what rod and line do you use? Thanks
The Rod is an old Hardy Demon Mr Eagle it is 12ft for a 7wt but I give it a bit extra with an 8 weight . It helps load the rod
Cheers Iain 🥃
Your at middle pavilion Gaten side
