Hello you two. This song is one of my favourite songs. Till's voice has such a nice range. And the bass is treat for the ear. The lyrics have allegory to the Marlene Dietrich song:'Lili Marlene'. As usual with Rammstein lyrics the interpretation of it has a wide range. To me the song is about a father singing to his daughter. He realizes that his daughter is grown and ready to leave home/boat to go out into the wide world/sea. He warns her of the merciless world that can judge mercilessly, just as they did with her mother. But, as I mentioned, others have a different take on the meaning of the song. To me, that's one of the many beauties of Rammstein's art. They leave room to think about their lyrics. They almost never say, what the intended meaning is, when they write the lyrics. The particular guitar in the video is a custom headless bass by a German custom guitar company called Cyan, it was just used for this video. In the early years Oliver used a Music Man Stingray, he would later switch to what has been his standard for many years now, a Sandberg bass. Those are his favourite

Yes, they were not happy about the video, but that was at the very beginning of their career (the second video after "You smell so good") and neither the economic possibilities, nor the circumstances allowed something better.

You are right, guten Nachmittag to you guys too. Even though you don't say "guten Nachmittag", in everage you say good morning ( guten Morgen or simply "Morgen" (like "morning") til 12am and then after 5pm you say "Guten Abend". In between you just say "Guten Tag". Greetings from Germany
by the way - this song is from the first album - made in 1996. The bass guitar is in my opinion incredible beautiful - and the bass player also "the beast!"
Till was especially proud of this song...even said it was the only song.on the record worthwhile. He delivers a beautiful vocal and Olli's bass line is very sweet. I'm not much into trying to analyze Till's poetry...maybe you nerd to.have read his books of published poetry to.understand why. There's the obvious, and the hidden meaning to each song. He likes the fans to have their own takeaway.

Buti never hear saying someone "Guten Nachmittag". There normaly just are no occassions for that. Most common is "Guten Morgen" when you greet someone after having woken up or in scool/at the job as a greeting. "Gute Nacht" if you leave in the night or to just wish a good sleep. And "Guten Tag" or Guten Abend" as common greetings during the day or in the evening. Or people use other greetings like "Hallo" or regional ones like "Servus" (southern germany, austria), moin (northern germany), etc etc.
To translate it a little bit more literally: "nach" means "after". So it's literally the same as in "afternoon". "Vor" means "before", but "Vormittag" is a very strange phrase to use, almost like "forenoon". No one really uses it in general, we are just saying "Guten Morgen", which of course means "good morning". Apart from the four letters, there is no connection between the word "nach" and "Nacht", even if they can sound like the same for non-Germans.
