Till (the singer) wrote this song as apology for the quarrel that he caused when he made the video for the song Mutter single-handedly. The other band members were exhausted after the last tour and needed vacations. Till decided not to wait for the others and did it alone. As the band has no leader but decides everything democratically, that led to a serious crisis within the band. So the song is about the band that only exists with all six original members. I'm not sure whether this agreement was made as a result of the crisis or whether this was already agreed in earlier times. The aluminium plate where Oliver (the bass player) punches in Till's name is the usual kind of tombstone for mountain climbers in regions where it is not possible to bring back a mountaineer that died during the ascent (e. g. in the death zone of Mount Everest). As usual all male roles in the video are played by the band members. This is not a typical song from Rammstein. Normally the songs are more upbeat and heavier. But they have various songs that are "untypical". And in a way, "untypical" is also typical for the band that now exists since 1994 in the same line-up. In my opinion, the symbolism of the video reflects the most difficult time for the band Rammstein. The band was on the verge of breaking up because the problems seemed insurmountable. The band then received psychological counseling and emerged stronger from this crisis. The video shows that they can only make it to the top together.

Edit: Ususally I'm not suggesting this, but you also should switch subtitles on or read the lyrics (careful, mostly the songs lyrics has multiple meanings) and you maybe might use headphones for the musics editing really getting into your mind. None of that matters to most songs or bands, but when it comes Rammstein it sometimes does. 8:32 he didn't just pass out, he passed away. His friends granted him his last wish to climb to the peak, because there was no hope for him after the fall to survive. You got that point about nature and friendship right.
....this is not what Rammstein usualy do..a rare ballad.. The best band in the World, but this dows not represent Rammstein..I love it, but check with subtitles (the channel "Bucksttabu" has many of their songs translated.. My dad and I liked Rammstein since I was a kid (I am 34 now, he's 65) and when we first saw this video, we both cried 😅
