    So, there is no way to force a rebalancing by some sort of "rebalancing program" within the car? It then needs to be removed, deeply discharged and slowly recharged as you have done in both part one and part two of this video?
    And, you recommend doing this every 3-6 months??? First, this is no DIY process. One would need the equipment and instrumentation you have to do this "reconditioning" properly.
    I totally agree with everything you have said in these two videos because I work with LifePo4 cells in a solar system. The importance of balancing is the same. However, I can actively rebalance myself if they get too far out of balance.
    Here, with the Prius and cars like it, no one I know has this equipment/instrumentation to rebalance an EV or Hybrid battery nor do I know of a shop that does this.
    As such I find this video interesting and technically correct but frustrating since I can't do this myself. How about manufacturers putting in a BMS with an active balancer either to balance automatically when cells become out of balance to a certain threshold or a program in the digital display in the cockpit to be able to manually activate a rebalancing?
    Not many EV/Hybrid owners know about this and you are the only one I've seen even mention the value of rebalancing one's Lithium Ion cells let alone find a shop locally that might know how to do it. In fact, I question whether the dealership would even know how to do this. I'd be their solution would be; "you need a new battery."
    I would love to refer individuals to you (within geographical limitations) but it appears you do not like to reveal your location. Not sure why if you run a business but that is not my concern I guess. Additionally, it also appears you prefer TikTok. I, and many like myself, refuse to use TikTok for obvious reasons.
    Thanks for your videos. Just found you through ScannerDanner.

    I'm confused. I've seen videos where they hook up to each individual cell to discharge and recharge, with wires going everywhere, but you just hooked up a few leads to discharge and recharge the whole pack as one. Could you explain?
    Also I've seen people line the cells up in parallel to balance them?
    Thanks for your your knowledge

  • @mark98115
    @mark98115 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you discharged the battery down to 84 volts, aren't you discharging individual modules down to 3 volts?
    Isn't that way too low?
    I read that these modules should not be discharged below 5.9 volts and some say even 6.3 volts.

Then I came across your channel. Love what you're doing and I was curious on your opinion, do you think it would be worth me reconditioning the hybrid battery even though it's probably never been done before and that it's 11 years old?

  • @jimmyrustem1430
    @jimmyrustem1430 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    It sounds ok to re-balance cells. But what about the internal resistance of the individual cells. Cells will not age equally and IR of cells will increase as they get older. Since the rate of change is unequal, cells with higher IR (more than 10% difference in IR) will loose more charge than others. Over time you will have imbalance again. Effectively back to square one. I think you should get yourself an IR meter and measure the IR of individual cells ensuring they are within 5% of each other which is what I would do. Otherwise you are OK.

  • @aeesolutions
    @aeesolutions ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Usually these NiMH modules loose capacity due to aging or heating ( specially the cells located in the middle of the pack). you cant check the remaining usable capacity of individual module by cycle charging the whole pack. There is no point of cycling if cells have different capacity.

    If you have 300k miles on your car and need to replace your hybrid battery, the chances of your car lasting another 15 years and another 300k miles are slim to none. So paying to replace the hybrid battery might not be worth it. So basically the car needs to be retired after the hybrid battery goes dead.
    BUT....if the hybrid battery goes dead, can you still drive it? Will you get the same mpg as that same car in a non hybrid version from that point on??

    • @robertf4209
      @robertf4209 ปีที่แล้ว

      Curious why that is your conclusion. I would feel the same with many other cars. But if one of these has 300k and was maintained it probably is a great 0latform to keep running. Might have some big'ish expenses but nothing compared to the cost of a new car.

    if i rebalance all modules and reassemble again but not contacted bus bars and i contacted all modules in parallel with jump wires and and charge with 12 v battery charger and when the all modules reached 7.5 volt its means its charged fully then i will discharge with 6 volt halogen bulb💡 which takes load in . @mark98115 ปีที่แล้ว

      Balancing is easy. Remove all modules and connect them in parallel (all the positive are connected together and all the minus are connected together).
      I saw a video where one guy used solder (in wire form) to do this.
      That made it really easy because solder wire is very soft.
      After you connect the modules,together, leave them like that for a day or two.
      The electricity will flow from more charged to less charged modules until they are all in the same state of charge (exact same voltage).
      That is balancing.
      That however does not solve the issue of some modules having more capacity than others.
      The charging and discharging individual modules is an attempt to correct that problem.

I also own a 2022 Prius still brand new w/4K ODO running lithium battery consisting in 56 cells (no modules) -question: is this battery serviciable? like... can you rotate cells, clean busbars like you would do in the NiMH w/28 modules? I wasn't able to find any inforamtion about this battery but I have a feeling this is a sealed system /disposable --any thoughts? thanks a lot Jose!

      Just for cleaning purposes my friend… no need for rotation in this type of batteries… just keep it clean 🫡✅🫡✅

      @@MilkyWayGalaxyy Not sure how this relates to my question, as my car has 4 thousand miles on it, and I don't plan to have it until 300k, also many people replace HV batteries at 150~200k miles, but thanks for your feedback.

    Hello Jose, tell me is it possible to restore a single element in this way by discharging it with a current of 0.2 A and charging it with a current of 0.2A ? First up to 4.7 V, then up to 3.6 V and at the end up to 3V?
