Good work. This is why I hate taking anything to the shop.

You don't need a floor jack or transmission jack to remove this transmission, it doesn't weigh that much. I replaced the clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing in a 1955 ford three speed on the column, when I was a kid (17 yrs old) back in 1962. Just get under it, with your head facing toward the rear-end, and use both your hands to jiggle it loss and pull toward the rear-end, and it'll come out. Just ease it down onto your chest and roll it gently onto the ground and pull it out from under the vehicle via the tail shaft. Put it back the same way. Push it back under the vehicle and ease it back onto your chest and left it up into position. I used the same method on another 55 ford, with overdrive, this time I was 21. Nice video. Brings back a lot of old memories.

I have a 66 Bronco and would love to have a neighbor like you to wrench with, or at least chat and share ideas. We're not working on the same vehicle, but there's some similarities and I've been learning a bunch from your truck videos. I also think it's great that you're working on a truck that has family history. Cheers & high five!

Always good to have a hand around the shop. My dad and I are lucky to have each other around for the same reason. High five back! 🤚

Nice job! I have some trust issues for another reason. I just got done pulling my truck apart to replace the starter gear on the flywheel. Be careful who you buy your parts from. I bought a new flywheel from one of the truck restoration catalogs. I was converting my truck from auto to manual. Ever since then, it has been randomly breaking off a tooth here and there. I don't mean grinding the side off either, a whole tooth would snap off flush at the root...Finally, 6 years later, I'm pulling it apart to replace the gear. I bought a new one from a reputable place and the teeth are noticeably stronger. I compared my old flex plate with the old and new flywheel gear and found that the new gear and the flex plate gear matched. The one breaking teeth had the teeth cut deeper and they looked noticeably thinner. The root of the teeth were cut with sharp corners compared to the new one and the original as well. I can't stress it enough, be careful of the quality of the parts you buy. It's as important as who you let wrench on your vehicles.

Well aware of this. About ten years ago I was replacing my fuel pump on this pickup and i had 2 or 3 AutoZone pumps break on installation- the cast housing cracked on each one! Napa one is still on there. I am much more careful now about parts selection now. Unfortunately LMC can be pretty hit and miss... I have yet to find a really high quality parts source for these trucks.

@@SealedBeamRallyTeam I was able to buy my new flywheel ring gear from Summitt racing. Hopefully it will hold up better this time. I haven't finished putting it back together yet. I've been favoring Napa for the parts they still carry. It's getting to the point they can't get some parts now.... I have a 73 F100 with the 360. It looked like yours has an FE engine too.

@@chipwright6193 Yeah, I just get fed up with trying to find the right part on Summit. Summit sent me the wrong trunk lock for my Corvair...

@@SealedBeamRallyTeam have you tried Clark's Corvair before? I had pretty good luck with them, but it was about 20 years ago though.

Pretty good vid! I have a 59 f100 that i believe needs a new clutch (4 speed, it's hydraulic and just grinds when shifting with the engine on). You video really is helpful!

Man, i broke one of them a while back and could not find them anywhere. Check junkyards and farm auctions. They are attempted "Ford", if that helps.
