I swapped out the (broken, by me) PowerGlide in my '66 Impala Convertible for a "Three on the tree with an OD" from a second Impala donor car in '75. The swap went smoothly with just a bit of fab to get everything to fit (there is a ball that supports one end of the clutch arm that gets mounted on the inside of the wheel well). The unit that came with my $75.00 Impala "donor" car was broken, but there was a good Ford unit that came with it. I messed up the OD while installing it and it was off to Fred Carver's junkyard for a replacement from a Chrysler (for $25.00). I got it right the second time by using a rubber band to hold in the Sprague rollers while putting on the tail shaft. Just leave the rubber band in there once you have it assembled. It won't hurt anything. My driving experience was that I loved the thing and it was a blast to drive.
'57 Studebaker Hawk here - 3 speed with OD, I wasn't sure exactly how it went in to OD electrically till I watched your video. I did replace the kickdown switch as it was broken internally.
I picked up a fully reconditioned HD BW 3 speed w/OD T85c-1a R11-1E. Both parts have Q2 stamped in. It has a tag riveted on “8-17”. It apparently came from a truck, but I can’t source anything about it. Do you have a resource? You know so much about them. Great ride you’ve got.
I am afraid I do not have much on the numbers or tags like you describe. I don’t go past 1959 with a lot of what I have in research and all. What are you looking to find out?
Borg Warner 3 speed plus overdrive, R10 tail shaft. There is quite a bit on my website on the blog at www.hotrodreverend.com/post/1955-ford-part-112-camshaft-upgrade-in-car-part-2
Shoot me an email at danaxjessup@yahoo.com or contact me through my website at HotRodReverend.com/blog and I can send some photos of the kit, the instruction sheet, etc.
Juliano’s is the brand. Hop onto my website at HotRodReverend.com and visit my blog pages. There are pictures, diagrams, installation tips and all the rest.
No it does not push out in that scenario. This tail shaft has the provision of an automatic lock out for reverse so the OD gears are just fine if backing up while cable is pushed in.
From the owners manuals I have and the rebuild manuals that describe the operation, the opposite is true - the cable is only to pulls out when the car is not in motion. Pushing in while going forward can be done but it is not best practice.
If you visit hotrodreverend.com and my 55 Ford blog pages there are thousands of photos and videos all organized through tech article headings. And yep, it’s strong!
It’s a 292 Ford Y Block, and the car is a 1955 Ford Fairlane. The transmission is from a Mercury so it bolts right up. There is a boatload of info on my blog at HotRodReverend.com
the 292's bark is louder than it's bite, but it has quite a bit of torque on the bottom end. If you sift through my channel's videos you can watch a 1/4 mile race I had with an altered T-bucket. I did chirp the tires when shifting from 1st to 2nd, but again this is an otherwise stock engine.
much of that has to do with the driver and dropping the clutch hard at stop lights, etc. These transmissions were not made for burning rubber from a dead stop. The T85 however was almost bullet proof in that regard and can handle quite a bit of horses. Builders have told me that 500 to 600 hp for the T85 is not uncommon. On the transmission in this video ... I would say 250 hp is about max before gears start stripping out.
This helped me figure out what I’m putting into my 66 Pontiac thanks man
No problem, you may want to get on hotrodreverend.com/blog and research my articles on the transmission. I have much more in the way of tech on there.

I'm very fascinated by this car. Love the y-block!! Is the transmission a 3 speed plus an overdrive unit? or is it a 2 speed plus overdrive?
Borg Warner 3 speed plus overdrive, R10 tail shaft. There is quite a bit on my website on the blog at www.hotrodreverend.com/post/1955-ford-part-112-camshaft-upgrade-in-car-part-2
What shifter kit are you using? I have the HURST INDY UNIVERSAL 3-SPEED MANUAL SHIFTER here and it doesn't fit my R10 (with overdrive).

What seat belts are you using? Where did you mount for the shoulder strap?

Question..if you have the cable pushed in and try to put the transmission in reverse. Will the cable be pushed out by itself?
No it does not push out in that scenario. This tail shaft has the provision of an automatic lock out for reverse so the OD gears are just fine if backing up while cable is pushed in.
I have heard that you are only supposed to pull out or push in the o/d cable while the car is moving. What is your opinion and experience with that?
From the owners manuals I have and the rebuild manuals that describe the operation, the opposite is true - the cable is only to pulls out when the car is not in motion. Pushing in while going forward can be done but it is not best practice.
@@HotRodReverend Thanks. Good luck w/ your ride.

What engine do you have in that Merck with that overdrive

How much horse power could these transmission take

@Daniel Jessup I have a 56 fairlane 3sp manual with over drive I'm thinking about picking up thus 410 fe motor and keeping the 3sp manual
@@9thgatedim273 They put R11's behind the Big Block fords for good reason. R11 has 4 planetary gears R10 has 3. But ya run what you can find I guess.
Is that a Flathead?
