i replaced the backlight leds on my 58" tv last weekend, i do contract tv repair work but not that involved. i watch this channel alot, own a tshirt and got inspired and fixed my tv. it's not perfect i have to do some adjustments, but it works well enough for the wife to watch
1:20 The reason you have to push in so hard is because they aren't Phillips screws they are JIS screws which are mildly different sized. Phillips will work, but if you never want to worry about stripping again start using the JIS bits(which are in the Pro Tech Toolkit; it's the row of cross headed bits on the 3rd or 4th row from the top, marked with J000-J1). Edit: It should be mentioned that all Japanese electronics use JIS screws, and will wear much less if the correct bits are used.
Thanks! I've always wondered if there was much difference. Considering Japanese electronics are just about the only thing I tinker with, you probably just saved a lot of screws from eventually being stripped out LOL
Alot of people don't realize that about some of the Nintendo consoles now using those types of screws, when I replaced a joycon rail on the OLED, I had ordered a specific set of Jis Drivers from Ifixit and they worked great
One thing I've noticed about repair shops is that they dont want or know how to replace chips. It's why I like your videos, you look at almost everything that could be wrong with the devices.
One of the most devastating feelings I get when repairing stuff; is knowing I spent a lot of time, from hours to sometimes days, trying to fix something. Only for it to still be broken in the end. Also, one of the most satisfying things is spending a lot of time on something and it being fixed. One saps your moral, but the other gives such a good high and great feeling of satisfaction combined with knowing that time was justified because it's working now. Unfortunately, I've experienced the former more times than the latter haha. So glad you were able to fix that "modded" OLED switch.
Never ceases to amaze me with how intuitive you are when it comes to fixing things. People can learn the skills but not everyone has your natural talent with deduction
@36:00 - I've had this happen to me. When the foam tape sticks to the SD connector, it can have a tendency to pull UP on the connector and disconnect it. I actually had to cut down my foam tape square to make it smaller so it fit in the hole and didn't pull up on the connector.
I still can’t believe that #3 started up after you fixed those capacitors. Given the state it was in when you first opened it up and saw the failed mod work.
I just can't believe you made #3 work - that's absolutely amazing how you managed to put all these random parts together and make it work! That's the skill!
I’m a huge fan of your main channel. So glad you started this long form channel! I’m not too skilled in electronics repair, but it’s so fascinating to see the inner workings of all this stuff. Hope all is going well with your recovery!
Awesome to see you had success with these. Last one a worked on replacing one of the chips I blew 3 capacitors off the board lol. Had my air too high by accident.
Hi I see all your videos, especially the consoles fixes as they are so much informative and pleasing to watch. You work in a way that's so peaceful and precise, I can learn from your repairs! I never repair a console yet but I probably get into this as soon as possible and I can use lots of your videos as a guide. I hope you get well, I was a little sad with your announcement in the previous video. Greetings from Marche, Italy!!! :D Edit: grammar error
its nice having spare parts to fix things. one thing i like to check is with an old damaged ribbon cable that obviously cant be used anymore but just to check the connector before you risk damaging a good one or damage it more to the point where you have to replace it.
25:50 Same thing with an xbox one hdmi port for repair i recently got, just going to replace the port, seems way too difficult to bend those pins back in such a tight space.
Just found your other channel Steve. Fantastic info as I have a couple of extra Switches with “issues” 😆 One does an odd thing where 1 joy con doesn’t work when attached to the rail, but works when bluetoothed. Just you showing how you strip down, and diagnose really helps! Hope you’re feeling ok too.
3:36: nah the factory thermal paste is pink. Someone replaced it. But it was either replaced a long time ago or they used shitty paste. That's definitely dry as hell.
ALL mod chips use those locations. Doesn't necessarily mean it was a picofly. They all need dat0 (under the emmc on the other side), cmd, clk, gnd, +5v, and a flexible cable with resistors soldered to the apu, for glitching the boot process. Oh, and reset.
That witch OLED looks like someone tried to solder a modchip. You can take a look at some Videos here on youtube to get an idea what to do with that...
oh... and I was diagnosed with Lymphoma three years ago... im sure youll respond to treatment well... ( ports suck ! ) six months of monthly and two years of bi-monthly maintenance
Sooo many questions, how long has this channel been going and why don't you advertise it on your main channel? Well it turns out to be just 2 lol. I enjoy these longer videos.
Tying a switch from a rent to own….um…put 50 bucks aside per paycheck and in about a month and a half or so depending on how frequently you get paid, you can just buy a Nintendo switch from Walmart for retail. I contemplated furniture from one of those places once, and after tallying up the costs I realized buying the item outright was ten times cheaper.
I get excitedly every time you upload a vid man Hopefully you get better with your treatment, God is good all the time and he will take care of you Through out the way! 😊
I'm not sure but I think the repairable one is shorted due to a faulty chip that is cheap and easily replaceable. Those other ones are shorted due to a faulty CPU, a much more expensive part and technically hard to replace.
Hi Dave I watch all your video and I really enjoy watching them also I watch them because someday I want to be an electronics engineering but how should I spread my knowledge further? If I am only 14yo
Let's goooo! Also something i always wondered. I dont know electronics so I'm curious on why the boards are green. I seen red and i think blue color board. is it just green is cheaper or there other reasons
Steve!!! After watching these, how do I get your contact info for sending/selling you some of my failed repairs? I started recording my repairs but haven't uploaded anything yet. I can get you further information about the items privately.
I am so glad you could save that attempted "mod" Switch, the absolute butcher job they did there was appalling. I cannot fathom buying an OLED Switch and ruin it like that.
the OLED switch looks like they were trying to install a mod chip, which involves using a quick-solder flat-flex cable and nobody taught them about the importance of flux.
@@TronicsFixLongs this is definetly HWFLY or PicoFly modchip installation, which includes DAT0 point under a memory chip and a 2 solder points near CPU, one of which you shoud scratch off the coating. Check it out, this is a nightmare for underskilled modders
29:10 over $700 for a basic Switch!? Damn rent to own is insane, and then it died. I assume he got it new from Aaron’s? Edit: that looks like treatment I would expect from a rent to own buyer
whoever sent that second switch needs to give you a refund and if not a bad review would be totally fair. Likely could of been saved but with how bent the cpu cooler was it probably has ripped pads under the cpu giving you the blue screen.
If you have never done any micro soldering DO NOT start by modding a Switch specially the OLED one. Its the trickier out of the 3 and the more expensive when you mess it up. Original is much easier.
Why does reballing is not worth it? You've got a non working item and you have a chance to revive it, worth it all the way. If you meant you're not skilled enough to do it, than that is completely different thing

what is the purpose of the mod chip ?
